Hello darlings, it's Emma from www.pink-tutu.com here, back with another exciting entry in my time-travelling adventures. I’m so excited to share what I found on my recent jaunt to 9th September, 1920!
This month, my time-traveling leotard whisked me off to a fascinating decade: the Roaring Twenties. I always adore exploring fashion trends from this era, especially the ever-evolving story of leotards. But hold on to your tiaras, lovelies, because this wasn’t your typical ‘20s trip – it had an unexpected, delightful twist.
As always, I started my journey by checking out the most dazzling of shops. Remember, darling, back in those days, "leotards" were a very different beast! These early styles were more akin to tights than what we envision today. I had such fun searching through shops packed with colourful, silk stockings! It was just heavenly, really – think rich shades of jade green, sapphire blue, and ruby red. Every colour was positively intoxicating. And of course, being true to my pink passion, I snagged the prettiest pink stockings with embroidered lace – divine!
Now, for the fun part – the unexpected discovery! Imagine my utter delight when I stumbled upon a private, intimate ballet performance. The troupe was breathtaking; graceful ladies in shimmering gowns, accompanied by a handsome gentleman in a smart suit.
It wasn't until later, researching in a tucked-away antique shop, that I realised the troupe wasn't strictly ballet. I discovered their performance was part of a growing dance phenomenon – the rise of jazz dance. What a find! They called themselves the “Jazz Babies” and their music, energy, and sheer sass left me spellbound!
You see, even in 1920, these trendsetters weren’t afraid to break the mould, much like our love for pink tutus! They showcased leotard-esque clothing - you know, tights with fitted, loose-fitting tops. But these weren’t your typical demure styles – they embraced the spirit of liberation! It was utterly captivating to see those sassy steps – think a shimmy here, a kick there! Oh, darling, the outfits were simply divine, with their frills, feathers, and that undeniable, electrifying charm!
The best part? These fabulous women and gentlemen were dancing for joy, and the freedom in their moves mirrored the freedom women were beginning to express in their everyday lives. Oh, the change was simply thrilling! Their attire felt edgy, yet feminine, reminding me that our passion for bold and unique looks, even those tinged with pink, stretches back much further than we might imagine!
Of course, no trip is complete without a good ol' performance, right? To fund my travel, I did a little bit of impromptu street dancing. And, darlings, the reaction was a delight! My sparkly pink tutu and bouncy routines brought such smiles to the faces of those strolling by, as if the world was brimming with good cheer and good energy. Just imagine, me spinning and twirling in the middle of the city streets – what fun! I almost had a little fan club following me with the energy that I radiated. It was pure, joyful movement, which brought about the kindest of smiles and compliments!
The 1920s - oh, what a decade! You could see in the eyes of those people that change was in the air. From the way those ladies carried themselves with so much style and flair, to the burgeoning influence of jazz music, this trip certainly filled my time travel diary with some thrilling, colourful entries.
I can't wait to see where my leotard will whisk me away to next, my loves!
For now, stay stylish, stay beautiful, and be sure to share your own leotard adventures with me! Until then, you can catch me dancing and dreaming at www.pink-tutu.com.
Happy twirling!
Love,
Emma
