Hello darlings! Itâs Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time-travelling fashionista, ready to take you on another whirlwind adventure! This month, Iâve set my time machine, aptly named "The Twinkle Toes" (of course!), to November 11th, 1921 â a day marking the second anniversary of Armistice Day!
Itâs incredible to think how the world has changed since this day in 1921! Just five years earlier, we were in the midst of the Great War, and now the Roaring Twenties are in full swing â a time of joy, extravagance and, yes, incredible dance trends!
Let's dive into this exciting decade, shall we? And as usual, Iâm sporting my pink sparkly time-travelling leotard, because, let's face it, wouldn't want to show up looking like a dowdy old bird in the Jazz Age, now, would we?
Speaking of jazz⌠itâs bursting from every corner of society! From bustling streets to swanky dance halls, people are moving to this intoxicating music, and boy oh boy, have leotards come along for the ride!
You see, dance wasnât as readily available in the Victorian era, with its corsets and crinolines, and definitely not as publicly expressed, but this decade is changing all that!
This era is about freedom of expression, and dancers are leading the way! Gone are the days of floor-length ball gowns and constricting corsets. Dancers have adopted the leotard as their chosen uniform!
For the first time, they're proudly showing off their athletic forms, and the dance leotard is embracing this change with open arms! The once predominantly gym-focused garment has now transformed into a sartorial powerhouse!
But don't worry, there's plenty of room for both styles. For example, just the other day I witnessed a ballet class where a troupe of dancers â all decked out in pretty pink ballet tutus â are effortlessly moving with graceful grace, while across town, a group of "Flappers" are shimmying their way through the night in silky leotards adorned with tassels and feathers â absolutely fabulous!
Yes, you heard it right, tassels and feathers! The flapper look â synonymous with this era â has embraced the dance leotard. This silhouette embodies freedom of movement and is so unbelievably elegant and fun!
Of course, my inner tutu enthusiast just can't help but marvel at the beautiful dance leotards theyâre sporting today! A true mix of âathleticâ and âshowstopping" - all thanks to the changing fabric industry! You know, we've moved from heavy wool and cotton to lightweight and stretchable silk and satin, and you can feel this difference in these graceful dance leotards. They just seem to dance around the bodies.
As a dancer and blogger, it fills my heart with glee to see this rise in leotard appreciation! Every time I set foot in the past, it reaffirms my belief in leotardsâ everlasting charm and, of course, their unparalleled danceability.
My advice for every single one of you? Find yourself a gorgeous pink tutu and get your shimmy on! We'll bring back those happy, twirling vibes that once ruled the dance floors! Letâs make every day a Roaring Twenties fiesta!
