Pink Tutu Travels: Post 787 - A Day in 1924 with a Touch of Pink!

Hello my lovely leotard-loving readers! It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad time traveller, and I'm back with a new post from my whirlwind adventures through time!

This month, I decided to hop in my magical, pink, sparkling leotard and head back to 1924! What was going on in the world of dance fashion in July, 1924? Well, let me tell you!

The first thing I noticed was the way everyone was embracing the freedom of the flapper era! Dancing was all the rage, and everyone wanted to look as stylish as possible on the dance floor. I even spotted a couple of charming flapper dancers doing a cheeky Charleston - you know the one with all the kick-steps and leg extensions! They were wearing adorable short dresses that hit just above the knees, revealing some seriously sparkly silk stockings!

Now, you might think I’m being a bit silly talking about ‘adorable’ outfits from so long ago! But that’s just me, seeing fashion history with a little bit of pink-tutu-tinted lens! It’s all about finding the elegance and charm in the fashions of the past!

Of course, the dancers were also wearing the must-have leotards of the time - ones made of lightweight silk and often with elaborate embellishments around the neck and sleeves. These leotards were still quite loose compared to the fitted, almost second-skin, leotards of today, and a lot of these designs had delicate ruffles that flounced and danced along with every pirouette. There was even a leotard with a pretty pink-tinted bow at the back - you can bet I practically squealed!

A Look at the Fashion Shows

As a budding ballerina with a keen eye for fashion, I simply HAD to go check out some shows, of course!

And there I was, right in the front row! You know what, it's actually quite amusing to watch all these years later. They have these women doing some real show-stopping leaps on these stage-sized “lifts”, called what do you call them... lifts! The music is jazz inspired! It is like a whirlwind of fun with their silk costumes shimmering like a thousand tiny stars. All these years later, and this energy is just captivating! It’s enough to make me want to pull on my pink tutu and just bust out some moves right there!

But it’s not all sequins and sparkle, no siree! Even in 1924, the world of ballet was still experimenting with more abstract forms of movement. It’s kind of amazing when you think about it - people weren't afraid to try something completely new, and I can totally see how this period helped shape modern ballet!

I even saw a group of male dancers wearing their leotards as well. And, oh boy, they even had one with stripes - talk about a fashion statement for 1924! They are certainly taking some fashion risks and getting away with them, I tell you. Maybe that's a hint to try something a little daring for my next performance...

Back in My Pink Leotard - Time to Go Home

Now, as you know, travelling back to 1924 was quite the trip for my pink tutu. After soaking up all those amazing shows, my favourite part of my time travel was finding that adorable pink-tinted bow for my leotard. Now I just need to work out how I can fit in that lift...

After all, every pink tutu girl has to bring something fabulous back to her own time, right?

Until next time, darling leotard lovers. Don't forget to keep twirling in pink and dreaming big! You never know where a little sparkle and a touch of pink might take you. And, just like me, you can get out there and show the world your moves!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go plan my next trip! Maybe I'll go to 1980s and check out what the leotard world looked like in that decade... Hmm, there might even be some pink leg warmers...

Lots of love and tutus! Emma xx

P.S. I’m starting to plan my next performance to get enough money for another amazing time travel trip, maybe 1950s?! What do you think? Are there any particular years or styles you would like to see me check out on my next journey? Let me know in the comments below!
