Pink Tutu Travels: July 7th 1930! #LeotardHistory #Post859

Helloooo lovelies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where pink tutus reign supreme and time travel is just another Tuesday. 🩰✨

Today's date in history - 7th July 1930 - whisked me back to the Roaring Twenties. It felt absolutely magical! As you know, darling, I can only time travel when wearing my fabulous, pink-sparkling time-travelling leotard. And, let me tell you, I felt like a starlet stepping out of a vintage movie!

My journey this time led me straight to London, where I danced through the streets and, naturally, found myself in the heart of the West End! And who was I fortunate enough to bump into? The iconic Marie Rambert! The legendary dancer and choreographer was, as ever, absolutely enchanting. It’s her who led the way for so many of our favourite dancers today, from Margot Fonteyn to Dame Darcey Bussell!

And speaking of fashion… ooh, darling, let’s talk fashion! 1930s leotard designs were pure sartorial joy! Think dramatic cuts, flattering lines, and some truly stunning embellishments. The colour palettes were as bold and fabulous as the dancers who wore them! Think fiery reds, opulent emerald greens, and – my favourite – striking black!

Did you know that the “Cowl Leotard” was all the rage in 1930? Its signature draped neckline and close-fitting silhouette flattered any figure. I had to grab one myself – it’s my newest favourite. 🤫 It’s the kind of leotard you just feel confident and fierce wearing! It is perfect for when I need to show off my moves, so watch out Derbyshire, I might be popping up at a street show soon!

And to keep those dancers looking fabulous, the designers of the time were introducing fabrics that were both comfortable and visually exciting! We're talking silky satins, breathable knits, and bold metallics. Oh, the glitz! 💫

Speaking of the show, I spent a lovely afternoon at the London Coliseum, the biggest theatre of its time, taking in an exquisite production of "The Sleeping Beauty". Oh, darling, the costumes were a spectacle! They shimmered and shone in shades of delicate blues and luminous golds – quite the magical affair!

The ballet was spectacular! Each step a masterpiece! Ballet dancers back then were as captivating as the costumes – so full of life and expressive! It makes me wonder: what kind of show can we expect in the modern era? Is there anything like a ballerina with a sparkling tutu in a dazzling, custom-designed leotard performing for the crowds in Covent Garden today? I must find out. I'll keep you updated, dears. 😉

Now, back to my travels!

1930 also saw the rise of “the Tunic leotard”, which is still a classic to this day! Its short tunic shape – oh, it is just so elegant – offers both movement and comfort while maintaining that beautiful, feminine shape. Pure fashion, darling!

So you see, dearies, 1930s ballet fashion was an explosion of innovation, creativity, and just a dash of decadence. What I wouldn't give to turn the clock back! And who knows, maybe next time I'll be dancing the night away at a swanky London party or soaking in the glitz of the 1930s ballet world!

Let’s bring the spark of that glorious era into the present day! Keep your eyes peeled, darling, for all the fab pink tutu looks that will be landing on the Pink-Tutu.com blog throughout the month! I have my trusty leotard and tutu, a million pink-tastic ideas for the next few weeks and… you know what else? I’m ready for another time travel adventure!

Until next month, my little darlings.

Stay fabulous,

Emma
