Pink Tutu Post #900: Twirling Back to 1933, December 12th!

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, ready to whisk you away on another fabulous adventure! This month, we’re going right back to the roaring twenties… well, actually, the 1930s! Buckle up your ballet shoes, because we’re taking a trip to December 12th, 1933.

The crisp December air nipped at my cheeks as I arrived, my pink shimmering leotard twinkling in the dappled London sunshine. Even in this time of economic hardship, fashion remained a source of joy and inspiration! The London streets buzzed with a chic mix of knee-length skirts, luxurious furs, and – drumroll - the leotard, already making its mark in the world of dance!

Of course, I had to visit a theatre! This year marks the tenth anniversary of Sadler’s Wells’ transition into the “Sadler’s Wells Ballet”. The name itself is so wonderfully graceful, don’t you think? I heard whispers that this company – with its repertoire including “The Sleeping Beauty” and "Giselle" - is attracting serious buzz and attracting some fantastic talent! The beautiful costumes and sleek lines of their leotards perfectly complement the graceful movements of their ballets, so inspiring! I felt my own toes itching to join them on stage!

But of course, London is not the only city where dance takes centre stage. On this very date in 1933, over in America, the renowned choreographer George Balanchine is setting the stage alight with his debut performance with the New York City Ballet! Can you imagine, darlings, being a part of that? Seeing his vision for the first time, dancing alongside such talent, and sharing that moment with audiences – simply electrifying!

Now, talking about electrifying, darling, the leotard fashion is not to be missed. Those shimmering silk leotards, the innovative cut-outs, and that famous "leg line"! They’re not just for dancing anymore, you know. This December, we're seeing leotards appear in magazines, worn for sports like swimming, and even by artists as casualwear!

What is it about leotards that captivates us so much? I think it's the way they hug the body, emphasising every graceful curve. They’re so wonderfully versatile, and – most importantly – they allow complete freedom of movement! It's no wonder they're finding their place in all sorts of settings.

Even here in Derbyshire, we have local ballet classes sprouting up everywhere! They are filling the halls with elegant twirls and delicate leaps, giving every girl a chance to discover her own inner ballerina! Imagine all the future dance legends taking their very first steps in the graceful embrace of a pink leotard. Dreams!

Speaking of dreams, darling, that's exactly what my mission is! To inspire a world of pink tutus, one twirl at a time. Every time I don my sparkling pink leotard and head back through the swirling sands of time, I know I'm spreading a little bit of ballet magic. It's not just about the outfits, darlings; it’s about joy, grace, and the belief that we can all twirl our way through life with a smile!

So tell me, lovely readers, what leotard style catches your eye? Is it the flowing lines of a classic satin number or the modern chic of a sporty leotard? Let me know in the comments below. And don't forget to visit my shop for all your pink tutu and leotard needs!

Remember, you don’t need a time machine to discover your own inner ballerina – all you need is a little bit of courage, a whole lot of enthusiasm, and of course… a pink tutu.

See you next month, darlings!

XOXO Emma
