Pink Tutu Travels: A 1935 Leotard Fashion Adventure! šŸ©°šŸ’–

Hello my darling dancers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels! It's Emma here, your very own tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you away on a dazzling journey through the fascinating world of leotard fashion.

This month, my sparkly pink time-travelling leotard (it really does shimmer! I'm not even kidding!), has transported me all the way back to the 9th September, 1935. This is my 921st blog post, and just think, for 921 times now, I've worn this wonderful creation and travelled to different eras! The thrill of experiencing history never wears off!

Oh, did I tell you that this month I was fortunate enough to catch an absolutely stunning ballet performance in Vienna? My! The costumes were out of this world! I even had the chance to chat with one of the ballerinas afterwards - she's going to feature on the blog next month! Can you believe my luck? But more about that later...

Right now, I’m standing in the bustling streets of 1935 London, feeling absolutely positively fabulous in my signature pink tutu. I have to say, tutus are surprisingly versatile! While they may be synonymous with ballet, I’ve found that in every era, there’s always a way to incorporate their whimsical charm into everyday fashion! I’ve even worn mine to a tea party at the Ritz (which is a whole other blog post, you simply must read it, darling!)

Today, however, we are all about 1935 leotard fashion. Imagine my surprise, when upon arriving in 1935, I discovered that the humble leotard was becoming increasingly popular in a whole new sphere – the world of swimming!

Can you imagine it? You've got to picture those 1930s ladies, with their perfect coiffed hair and perfectly sculpted bodies, emerging from the sparkling blue swimming pool, clad in what are essentially very fashionable swimming leotards. They look positively like sirens of the ocean, and the outfits are just chef's kiss

But before you get your knickers in a twist (speaking of knickers - they were just coming into fashion in the late 1930s!) it wasn't all frilly swimming costumes and glamorous mermaids. You see, whilst the trend was growing, it also led to some rather, shall we say, bold designs.

Picture, if you will, a leotard made of a daring mesh fabric (so daring!) adorned with geometric shapes and, dare I say it, rather alarming colour combinations! The colour palette of the time was all about bold and vibrant colours! think reds, oranges and shocking blues! All of this served to accentuate the leotards rather, shall we say, ā€œrevealingā€ nature!

As always, darling, I couldn’t resist the temptation to try on a few. After all, it wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu Travels experience without some fabulous fashion! To my surprise, I actually found a surprisingly stylish and rather graceful bathing suit! Imagine a simple one-piece with elegant flowing lines that flattered the female figure and offered just the right amount of coverage! Such elegance, and you just wouldn’t know, but it actually fitted rather nicely with my signature pink tutu (a delightful pairing, wouldn’t you say?).

So, this trip is all about the evolution of the leotard - from a humble garment used in training and performance, to an iconic statement piece in the world of swimming. My friends, fashion is a wonderfully adaptable art form that transcends time!

As I continue my adventures, my darling, I will be sure to bring you all the most fabulous fashions, intriguing tales and shimmering dance performances, right here, on Pink Tutu Travels. You simply must follow my blog for more fabulous adventures and remember, darling, there’s no wrong way to wear a tutu! You just need to own it with a certain je ne sais quoi.

Until next time, my lovelies, keep on twirling!

Lots of love and a pink twirl, Emma
