Pink Tutu Travels: Back to 1936, a Fashionable Flutter! 🩰✨

Hello my darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing, time-travelling blogger, ready to whisk you off on another adventure. Today marks post number 929 on www.pink-tutu.com, and oh boy, have I got a treat for you! This month, I'm twirling back to the glamourous year of 1936, the year that really brought a touch of that Parisian chic to leotards!

Let's get this pink party started! I’m already adorned in my very own shimmering pink leotard, you know, the one that takes me hopping through time. Today's creation is an elegant vintage-inspired number - think figure-hugging silk with delicate lace and a touch of sequin magic. I've paired it with a wispy tulle tutu that floats like a cloud - just imagine, dear readers, floating on a magical breeze!

This month, I’ve swapped my usual London street ballet routine for a trip to the bustling streets of Paris. Oh la la! This year marks the pinnacle of the Roaring Twenties, a decade bursting with innovation and a definite 'leotard liberation' moment! From the flapper dresses that brought freedom of movement to women to the advent of modern dance, this era redefined what a leotard could be. It wasn't just for dancers anymore - the humble leotard was entering the world of fashion!

The most exciting thing? This May, a new dance form took the Parisian stage by storm - Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Their costumes were breathtaking – vibrant colours, flowing fabrics, and leotards that danced in unison. Imagine the sheer wonder of seeing ballerinas in their pink silk leotards, with tiny sequins glittering under the spotlight - it was truly enchanting. The whole city buzzed about the innovative designs and how they moved and flowed across the stage - it was the start of the leotard taking on a more artistic and artistic approach!

I’ve spent the day mingling with Parisian fashionistas, soaking in the trends, and adding a sprinkle of pink to this vibrant cityscape. Let’s take a peek into the fashion landscape of May 1936:

Leotards:

  • The leotard's influence wasn't limited to just ballet, my loves. Parisian designers began using its streamlined, elegant silhouette for evening wear. I even spotted a gorgeous, shimmering velvet leotard in a blush pink hue - so chic!
  • The iconic "Carmen" Leotard - inspired by the flamenco dances, became a hot favourite. Made of black silk, and with intricate details, it brought a touch of bold drama to ballet stages and elegant events.

Tutus:

  • Parisian ballerinas ditched the long, voluminous tutus for shorter, more dynamic versions. They resembled elegant skirts, creating an air of lightfooted agility, perfectly capturing the spirit of the era. Imagine, my loves, a playful, flowing tutu that feels as light as a feather!
  • The colours! Oh the colours! Ballerinas wore the most glorious pastel tutus in shades of pink, peach, and light blue. I was almost hypnotised by a captivating sky blue tutu - what a whimsical touch!

I even managed to sneak a peek into the archives of the famed Théâtre de la Mode in Paris - they have the most fabulous collection of 1930s dance wear, including some incredible leotard and tutu creations. I might have swiped a little inspiration for my next blog post. wink

But darling, this trip wouldn't be complete without a dance of my own! This evening, I found myself enchanted by the magical allure of the Folies Bergère – a venue synonymous with dazzling dance performances and glamorous ensembles. I took to the stage (with the permission, of course, of the lovely Parisian audience) and twirled under the glitter of the chandeliers - pink tulle swirling, sequin sparkles gleaming! I may have caused quite a stir - the crowd was abuzz with excitement. Imagine, my loves, pink and glitter conquering the Parisian night!

Of course, no trip to Paris would be complete without some fabulous shopping, and this city always delivers in style. I spent hours at a gorgeous vintage boutique, scouring for hidden gems amongst rows of velvet and lace. I came away with an adorable lavender leotard with a sweet, delicate lace trim and a flowing pink chiffon skirt. Perfect for my next street performance, wouldn't you say?

I’m feeling utterly inspired, darlings. The magic of 1936 truly brought to life the elegant fusion of fashion and movement. Remember, my loves, don’t be afraid to express yourself! Leotards are for everyone, everywhere, and in every decade!

Until next month, keep sparkling and remember, we're all about that pink tutu life!

P.S. Stay tuned, dear readers, as I have a fabulous little announcement about my new "Pink Tutu Challenge!" Get ready to embrace your inner dancer, no matter what!

Much love and sparkles,

Emma
