Pink Tutu Travels: June 1937 – A Dash of Parisian Chic!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things leotard fabulous! This month, we're taking a whirlwind tour back to June 1937, a time when the world of dance was ablaze with innovation and style.

As usual, I'm packing my trusty pink tutu (this month it's a beautiful hand-beaded number with cascading pink feathers!), and my magic sparkly leotard is primed for time travel. Are you ready? Buckle up buttercup, because we're headed for Paris!

A Whirlwind in the City of Lights

Imagine strolling down the Champs-Élysées in 1937. You'd be dazzled by the sleek Art Deco architecture, the sophisticated fashions, and a burgeoning energy of artistic creation. It’s a time when ballet was beginning to embrace a bolder, more contemporary aesthetic, and you know I was there to witness it all!

This particular day, I’m popping in on a balletisse performance. That's what they called ballet in French back then! (Who knew?) My, it was a spectacle, a dance drama of the finest caliber. The dancers, each a vision in sleek, streamlined leotards, glided with such incredible grace, using their bodies to paint stories that truly captured the hearts of the audience. They had leotards of every cut imaginable – those flattering scoop-necklines, delicate straps that showcased their shoulders, and oh those en pointe tights – perfectly complementing their beautifully-flowing tutus.

My favourite leotard this day, however, was worn by the prima ballerina herself – it was a vibrant crimson, a real firecracker! It was a leotard that commanded attention, so strong and bold – a true testament to the era’s fascination with the expressive power of colour.

What’s in Fashion this June

After the performance, I popped over to Galeries Lafayette to indulge in some chic shopping. Paris was awash in breathtaking creations. I felt particularly enamoured by the influx of fabrics: lightweight satins, crepes and chiffons, that fluttered so delicately, perfectly complementing the newly streamlined shapes in fashion. Even the lingerie was in on the trend. It was a real movement toward grace and effortless chic, a beautiful, timeless look!

Let’s rewind a few days in our little time travelling escapade, to the 5th of June, 1937 – did you know this was the day of the grand opening of the International Exhibition in Paris? It was the highlight of Parisian society! An eclectic mix of dancers, fashion designers, and artistic souls of the time descended upon the Exposition Universelle. Imagine a sea of breathtaking outfits, leotards shimmering in every hue of the rainbow. It was an extraordinary symphony of beauty and style, and you know, darlings, I wouldn't miss it for the world!

Time to Spread the Pink Love

I even performed for the attendees – an impromptu performance that truly took the event by storm! Imagine this - my vibrant pink tutu, sparkling under the dazzling light, against the backdrop of all those stunning outfits. It truly was a breathtaking moment. I felt the magic in the air. That's why we all wear a pink tutu! Don't you agree?

Remember darlings, when it comes to style, it’s all about owning it, making it your own, and expressing that unique spark within! Be brave, be bold and take inspiration from those bold fashionistas of the past. And never, ever forget the magic of pink.

Until next month, keep spreading that Pink-Tutu Love!

Lots of pink kisses,

Emma
