Post #945: A Twirling Trip Back to 1937 - The Tutu Revolution Begins!

Hello my lovelies! It’s your favourite pink-loving, tutu-twirling time traveller Emma here, ready to take you on a magical journey back to the 1930s. Get your glitter ready because we're going to dive into a dazzling decade of leotards and tutus!

As you know, every month I hop into my trusty pink sparkly time-traveling leotard, give a little twirl and off I go! This month, I decided to shimmy my way back to the 9th of September 1937. Now, why this particular date, you ask? Well, my little ballerinas, that’s what I’m here to tell you.

But before we begin, have you spotted my latest creation? I’m just loving this blush pink tulle tutu, layered with sparkling sequins and a touch of vintage lace. Perfect for a 1937 ball, wouldn’t you say?

Anyways, back to the time travel! I popped into my leotard and poof – I was transported back to 1937!

1937 – A Year of Style and Grace

The world of ballet was booming in 1937. From London’s Covent Garden to New York City’s Metropolitan Opera House, ballerinas were captivating audiences with their breathtaking talent and, of course, their dazzling leotard fashions. It was an era of elegance and grace, reflected perfectly in the designs of the time.

Leotards were the heart of every ballerina's wardrobe, providing a seamless blend of practicality and style. In 1937, you could find a wide range of styles from classic tank tops to longer sleeved ones with stunning lace accents. They often came in beautiful, delicate colours like ivory, pale pink and buttercup yellow. Just imagine twirling in such a graceful ensemble!

The Tutu – A Blooming Trend

The tutu was the star of the show! In the 1930s, the classic tutu was undergoing a renaissance. The "Romantic Tutu", with its soft layers of tulle, was all the rage. They often featured delicate embroidery or pearl embellishments, adding a touch of exquisite glamour. This design would continue to inspire generations of dancers, and it still makes my heart flutter today.

Time Traveling Fashion Show!

So, what did I discover about leotard fashion on that 9th of September in 1937?

1. London – The Ballet Gala:

Imagine a glamorous gala at London's prestigious Covent Garden! The grand ballroom was brimming with dazzling attire, and the dancers were a sight to behold. I had the pleasure of witnessing legendary ballerinas like Margot Fonteyn, sporting exquisite leotards with flowing tulle skirts. It was an era of incredible talent, artistry, and an abundance of pink tutus!

2. New York City - "The Sleeping Beauty":

The New York City Ballet were presenting "The Sleeping Beauty" that evening, and I had to get in on the action! From the moment the curtain went up, I was mesmerized by the dancers in their magnificent leotards. Each delicate step, each elegant twirl, and every dazzling tutu had me mesmerized.

3. Paris – Fashion on the Seine:

Of course, I couldn't leave Europe without a visit to Paris, the fashion capital! I had the pleasure of taking a cruise down the Seine and seeing an enchanting performance by Les Ballets de Paris. It was the perfect backdrop to see the beauty and style of leotards in a magical evening setting. The dancers were flaunting vibrant colors and even the first hint of what we would come to know as the 'Romantic tutu'.

From the Past to the Present

This trip back in time made me realise how important it is to remember the beautiful traditions of ballet and dance. The fashion of 1937 was a glorious combination of elegance and innovation, inspiring me to carry the spirit of twirling grace forward. I think it's safe to say, we can all embrace the leotard!

I’m absolutely loving these new vintage-inspired tutu designs, with soft tulle and floral embellishments. It's like bringing a piece of 1937 history into my wardrobe. If you see me twirling in a fluffy pink number, it's most likely because I’ve been taking a trip to the past and found the perfect design to share.

What Next?

Now I'm getting ready for a huge event, a fundraising street ballet performance next month to support a local ballet school! It’s going to be a vibrant, dazzling spectacle with an ode to those enchanting 1937 leotard designs.

Until next time, don’t forget to embrace your inner ballerina! And don't forget, if you're interested in a twirling adventure, make sure to check out www.pink-tutu.com for some special blog posts and dazzling deals.
