Welcome back, fellow fashionistas! It’s Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu traveller, ready to whisk you away on another dazzling journey through time. This month, I’m skipping right into 1939, February 2nd!
Remember, this is post number 962 on my ever-growing pink tutu travel blog, www.pink-tutu.com. If you’re new, buckle up and prepare for some seriously stylish escapades! I'm an ordinary girl from Derbyshire, England, but with an extraordinary life. How you ask? Well, it's all thanks to this magical pink sparkling leotard. It whisks me through time and, well, my life's a bit of a whirlwind of leotard history, shopping, and incredible shows. Plus, I’m on a mission to get everyone, absolutely everyone, wearing a pink tutu!
Ready for our 1939 trip?
I landed with a twirl right in the middle of London, where, as you can imagine, things are starting to get a bit more... serious. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, but with a shadow of what was to come looming over everything. It was a time for elegant coats, the smart lines of tailored suits, and yes, even some stunning ballet outfits.
Let me tell you, the world of leotard fashion was truly something special in 1939! Ballerinas wore these absolutely captivating creations! Imagine long, flowing skirts over form-fitting, beautiful leotards with strategically placed strategically placed panels of sheer fabrics, revealing tantalising glimpses of their athletic bodies. Talk about elegance and drama, those outfits were pure artistry in motion!
Oh! And I couldn't leave without grabbing a little something from one of the hottest stores on London's fashion scene - Liberty! This gorgeous shop was a real haven of style and grace.
It wasn't just about leotards, no, they were creating some magnificent fabrics – silk, velvet, lace! The textures were just a dream to touch, the colours a veritable rainbow!
You know how I love to combine fashion with dance. And London had me swooning.
It was truly exciting to experience the energy of this period! It was a vibrant melting pot of elegance and innovation, full of people wanting to let loose and move. Imagine – jazz dances with their snazzy attire, glamorous swing performances where those full skirts danced and swirled! I tell you, even without the sparkling magic of my pink leotard, the whole scene felt like an exhilarating whirl of rhythm and beauty.
My biggest tip for 1939 London: It was essential to create a dramatic silhouette to make your leotard really pop. It's all about those curves! The sleek leotards created the perfect base for an amazing flared skirt, while a tiny waist and full-bodied hips gave that oh-so-gorgeous hourglass figure. The most glamorous and chic way to dress in the period!
I saw so many stylish leotard designs – every fabric was silky, shiny, or shimmered. There was velvet galore - perfect for showing off that stunning, flowing line.
Even though my heart belongs to pink, oh the colours of 1939! I must say, the rich reds and deep blues were an absolute show-stopper. Those were some vibrant colors for a leotard!
For my time travelling escapades, I decided to stay right here in London and soak up the vibe for the whole day! I strolled through the iconic streets, admired the stylish stores, and couldn’t resist dipping into a charming vintage clothing shop to browse the beautiful textiles. It was a delightful way to spend the afternoon!
As the evening drew in, I found myself at a simply dazzling ballet show at the London Coliseum. This glorious building has been around for ages, you know – from opera to ballet, its stages have always been places of spectacle. The program for the night was "Giselle", a classical masterpiece with stunning costumes and absolutely breathtaking performances! Oh my, those long tulle tutus with their elegant curves, those intricate lace details, and the exquisite use of velvet were simply magical. And let's not forget about the elegant bun! What a perfect dance to experience while travelling back in time.
"Giselle" gave me the most magical glimpse into the world of ballet fashion back then. I just adore the classic shapes and the sheer romance of those tulle tutus – it really added to the emotional impact of the story!
After the show, I decided to catch a charming, little cab home, full of stories, new ideas, and enough pink tulle inspiration for months!
If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m a HUGE fan of finding leotards that reflect history!
This 1939 adventure has definitely shown me that there's nothing like the thrill of travel and style intertwined. And there are so many historical fashion eras yet to explore!
Remember, every time I step through my magical, pink sparkling leotard, it's a whole new experience. I hope I've inspired you to seek out leotards with history – a beautifully crafted garment has such an intriguing story behind it! I have such a feeling this magical Pink Tutu blog journey has only just begun.
Until next time, stay fabulous!
Love,
Emma x
