Pink Tutu Travels: Time Travelling to 10th October, 1960! šŸ©°šŸ’–āœØ

Hello, darling tutu lovers! Emma here, your time-travelling ballerina extraordinaire, ready to whisk you off to another dazzling decade! This month, we’re waltzing back to the glamorous 1960s, landing on the 10th of October. Buckle up your tutus, darling, it's going to be a fabulous ride!

Now, let’s be honest, this month’s journey began with a serious dose of ā€œhow will I find my perfect leotard?ā€ You know, the one with the magic time-travelling powers? My Derbyshire wardrobe needed a serious pink makeover, so I hit up London’s vintage shops! Honestly, darlings, there were so many wonderful vintage gems to choose from. Eventually, I settled on a beautiful pastel pink leotard, trimmed with shimmering silver sequins and a touch of black lace. It’s utterly timeless, don't you think? Just a bit of classic with a touch of modern - just like my fashion motto!

Once I’d slipped into my shimmering time-travel leotard, it was off to the grand performance that got me so excited to visit the 1960s! It was the premiere of ā€œGiselle,ā€ at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. A magnificent evening!

Let's take a peek at leotard trends in 1960:

Leotard fashion in the early 60s was about elegance and refined athleticism. It’s all about simple lines, smooth silhouettes and that fabulous blend of function and fashion. The ā€œbare essentialsā€ look was the norm for ballerinas - tight-fitting, one-piece styles. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true ballerina look without that delightful dash of colour and sophistication. I even saw a few velvet leotards on stage - utterly divine, don't you think?

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true 1960s fashion blog post without mentioning tutu styles! This decade saw the introduction of the ā€œbellā€ tutu - which created a dramatic visual impact as the dancers moved. The skirts flared out in a perfect semi-circular shape, a complete departure from the fuller, fuller, fuller styles of past eras.

Speaking of trends, ballet slippers in 1960s were a study in elegance - think soft satins and fine leathers. Imagine this, a perfect pink leotard with white satin pointe shoes.

It's impossible to visit 1960s London without experiencing the iconic glamour of the city. The fashion is absolutely unforgettable - sharp lines, bold patterns, and iconic accessories like scarves, hats, and gloves - a veritable symphony of chic. I think it would be absolutely thrilling to give my street performances in a classic pink tutu and these vintage fashion pieces. Picture this! Me, whirling around a Covent Garden corner in a whimsical ballet sequence with a vibrant 1960s hat - talk about eye-catching!

Don’t get me wrong, it's not all ā€œtutus and teaā€, darling! You need a little adventure for a successful time-travelling ballerina blog! Let me tell you, I had the most extraordinary time discovering the vibrant theatre scene in London - plays, musicals, everything under the sun!

I must tell you, I've completely fallen in love with the Royal Court Theatre. It’s truly an oasis of theatrical brilliance, and its plays were absolutely captivating. It’s fascinating how the theatre landscape was so rich and dynamic - truly, there is nothing better than immersing oneself in the theatrical scene, especially a captivating show with a great leotard ensemble!

On that note, darlings, you absolutely must visit London in the 1960s if you can. It’s a world of wonder, and I’m already looking forward to my next time-travelling adventure. Let’s just say I’m thinking about taking a spin in a disco ball leotard!

Until next month, keep those tutus twirling and keep that pink spark alive!

Love, Emma xx
