Hello lovelies! Emma here, back from another time-traveling adventure and, oh my goodness, this one was a real treat! Let me tell you all about it.
This month, I found myself whisked back to the groovy year of 1966, a mere five years after the arrival of the iconic, stylish Mary Quant mini skirt! It's wild to think how fashion moved so fast in the sixties - we all love our sixties styles and that 60s leotard look.
Now, it's no secret that I'm a bit of a pink-tutu fanatic, but even I felt like I was stepping into a fashion dreamland! The colours, the cuts, the confidence! It was like the world suddenly decided to embrace boldness and glamour, and I loved every minute of it! You all know I love pink tutus and pink leotards but I really think pink was made for this era. Think pink sequins, pink velvet, pink chiffon and let's not forget those delicious pink fishnet tights. They were truly revolutionary - and incredibly chic, even for a little Derbyshire girl like me!
So, let me rewind the clock and tell you all about my adventures. I arrived in a whirl of time-travel energy, in my sparkling pink leotard, landing right in the middle of swinging London. The energy was incredible! People were dancing on the street, cafes were buzzing with creative minds, and the clothes were just fantastic. It was all about bold colours, daring patterns, and a carefree spirit, perfect for my new vintage pink tutu!
My first stop was Carnaby Street. A kaleidoscope of colour and creativity! There were fashion shops tucked into every corner, all brimming with amazing designs, with bold graphics, psychedelic colours, and just that utter confidence I find so endearing!
And let's talk leotards! I spotted these divine catsuits โ they were a bit of a craze in those days. These were more than just regular leotards - they were constructed with revolutionary materials in bold colourways to create a second-skin feel, a statement of the future!
I felt such a kinship to these free-thinking fashion icons. A leotard is, in my humble opinion, a masterpiece. It's like a blank canvas โ sleek, chic, so perfect to adapt and style.
Of course, I had to get into the spirit of things and embrace the 60s! I slipped into a bold, bright red leotard. It felt incredibly chic and sassy. The leotard had long sleeves, a high neckline, a fantastic bright red color and was paired with the must have of the era - a dramatic, swinging black and white check mini skirt and those incredible red fishnets I adore. I paired my red outfit with my pink sparkly leotard to complete the groovy 60s look - this ensemble had all those key features - it was sleek, bold and sassy - the real epitome of a leotard look for a "groovy gal" like me!
Naturally, I did a little impromptu ballet performance right there on the bustling streets of Carnaby Street. I don't know what was more shocking, my sudden appearance in the street or the amazing pink sparkly leotard, but let's just say it got a great reaction! It was amazing - it gave me such a rush to perform and get my message of leotard fashion out there.
My adventure then took me to the heart of the theatre district, where I discovered an entire world dedicated to the beauty of ballet! The shows, the costumes, and of course, the magnificent dancers! The leotard designs in the sixties, I must say, were simply out of this world! Think graceful, yet powerful lines, sleek fabrics with beautiful ballet detailing and exquisite colours all the elements that go into the classic ballet costume! These designs took the elegant classic style and gave them a groovy twist for this period! Oh how I wish I could find some of these designs today! My fashion heart would be SO content!
Of course, one thing that remains constant through time - the beauty of a beautiful white leotard! They are, after all, the iconic staple of the ballet world! They are a masterpiece - and one of the reasons why the world loves to watch ballet! Every time I step onto the street, ready for another performance - there I am, in my time traveling pink leotard with my sparkling tutu on - I really do live the dream - all because of my deep passion for the simple leotard and a tutu - these items that define elegance, style and pure performance art.
But back to my adventure! After taking in the incredible beauty of ballet fashion, I visited some amazing vintage clothing shops! They were full of beautiful clothes - all those fabulous patterned skirts, bold statement knitwear, and even vintage leotards. The staff, full of that infectious 60s optimism, helped me to find a real gem: a gorgeous green velvet leotard with a high neckline and elegant fitted sleeves, oh so elegant! It was just a dream to slip into. The green really brought out the colour in my complexion and hair, I thought it would be an amazing new leotard for the blog! I also found this incredibly bright floral pattern leotard - again, another dream! With these designs, they were bold in colour, style and were designed for those amazing moves and the incredible art of dancing - which made them perfect for my collection.
To end the fabulous day, I saw a show in the West End and danced the night away, lost in a sea of sequins and shimmer. And oh, what an iconic era this was - everything felt so vibrant - all these leotards, designs and colour schemes made a true fashion statement - and this era was not afraid to embrace bold, eye-catching pieces!
This is just a tiny snapshot of my fabulous time in the sixties, you can just imagine what a wonderful experience it was. If you're lucky, I'll write about this again! I really can't wait to get into my time-traveling pink sparkly leotard for the next adventure - I can feel the pink-tutu love happening already. Until next time - don't forget to stay stylish, stay bold, and wear a pink tutu, just because!
