Post Number 1420: A Twirling Trip to April 4th, 1977!

Hello darlings, and welcome to Pink Tutu! This month, I'm taking you on a twirling adventure back to April 4th, 1977!

It's a Tuesday, and the sunshine's peeking through my Derbyshire window, just begging for a pirouette. Speaking of sunshine, I've chosen the perfect ensemble for our time-travel escapade – a vibrant pink leotard, all sparkle and shimmer, topped with a cascading cloud of tulle – it’s my favourite pink tutu! My trusty magical time-traveling leotard is tucked away in my ballerina bag, ready to whisk me away!

First, a little bit about 1977. Disco is king! Music's buzzing, and fashion's following suit – bold colours, sleek silhouettes, and oh, that glorious glitz! I’m imagining bell-bottoms, platform shoes, and that quintessential disco era look. It’s all very exciting, but there's one thing missing - pink tutus, of course! I feel a mission coming on…

But first, coffee and a quick flick through the newspapers. Hmm, what’s catching my eye in the world of fashion?

The "Evening Standard" features an article about British fashion – a whirlwind of bright prints, textures, and an emerging fascination with bohemian styles.

Now, for a little time-travel! My sparkling leotard tingles, and with a flourish, we're whisked back to April 4th, 1977! Oh, the sights, the sounds, the sheer vibrant energy! It’s like stepping into a scene from a time-traveling film – music everywhere!

My first stop? A theatre, of course! The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. A quick spin around the stalls – how elegant everyone looks in their evening attire – flowing velvet gowns and sharp, well-tailored suits. The ladies' outfits are so beautiful – they’re elegant and timeless! But there’s only the slightest hint of pink tutus anywhere – a disappointment to be sure!

Feeling a little peckish, I head for a traditional tea shop, a quintessential part of British culture. While savoring a delicious slice of Victoria sponge and a steaming cup of tea, I imagine the leotard fashion trends of the day. I envision a vibrant kaleidoscope of colours – think vivid greens, shimmering yellows, and the ever-present red and blue.

For lunch, I grab a quick bite at the cafe in the Royal Academy of Arts. Oh my, they’re celebrating the work of Claude Monet! He’s famous for painting flowers and I must say, the exhibition inspires me to embrace even more bright colours, patterns, and beautiful movement – I’m feeling inspired already.

To really get a sense of 1977’s leotard scene, I hop on the tube to a local dance studio, “Studio 77” . This place buzzes with young dancers eager to learn the latest moves. The instructor’s leotard is a rich emerald green with long sleeves – such elegant style – and the dancers, they’re wearing a mix of leotards and t-shirts, and the colours are bright and eye-catching! Their attire inspires me – we have to think outside the box and make those pink tutus work for everything.

Next up – a visit to the V&A, the Victoria and Albert Museum. Here, I’m hoping for a blast from the past – to see what fashion icons were sporting in this exciting era. The collection’s astounding, showcasing incredible clothing design from this period – elegant gowns and stylish dresses. And there, nestled amidst the displays, is an intriguing collection of vintage dance wear, featuring ballet costumes from the late Victorian period. So beautifully crafted with delicate silks, elaborate embroidery, and layers upon layers of lace, they’re a real vision. And here’s where the magic begins - an early 20th century pink satin ballet dress! The cut, the colours, the feel… It's divine! It is, of course, not a full tutu, but it’s such a good start!

A little time travel, and I’m back in Derbyshire, energized, inspired, and more than ready to share this adventure with you! The vintage ballet dresses have inspired me to bring back the 19th Century in all it’s pink tulle glory. And who better to lead the charge than your favourite ballerina blogger?

But wait, before I head off to practice some pink tutu inspired routines for the week's street performance (gotta keep those travel funds topped up, darlings!), I've got to mention my absolute favourite discovery from 1977:

The iconic ballerina bar!

This beautifully designed, high-back, ergonomically designed ballet barre is just beautiful! Made from wood and designed for maximum strength and stability, it really captures the elegant style of the era – a classic piece of dance equipment, that’s still used today in studios all around the world. What a magnificent tribute to the beautiful ballet art, and a perfect reminder of what I'm striving for in this tutu fashion journey!

So, there you have it, my latest time-traveling adventures from April 4th, 1977. The fashion, the art, the history... a wonderful trip that has sparked many creative ideas. I can't wait to bring a little bit of that 1977 vintage leotard glamour to your screens in the coming weeks. And remember, darling, every day is a chance to make a little bit of magic happen with a sprinkle of pink tulle!
