Pink Tutu Travels: Post 1470 - A June Day in 1981

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from another adventure in time! This month I’ve landed myself right back in 1981, on the 6th of June, to be precise. As always, I'm ready to share the latest from my pink-hued explorations in the wonderful world of leotards.

Oh, where to begin?! You know I simply cannot resist a trip back to the eighties. So much iconic fashion – it just fills me with so much joy! Today’s journey is a real trip down memory lane - a world of leggings, vibrant colours, and leg warmers. The 80s were a real period for fashion boldness and experimentation! Leotards, of course, played a pivotal role!

This morning, I found myself amidst the bright lights of the West End in London. You’ve never seen such a collection of dazzling leotards. I spied one particular dancer with an absolutely phenomenal neon yellow leotard adorned with silver stars. The sheer brilliance of it was quite breathtaking. Talk about a statement!

Across the Channel, over in Paris, I waltzed my way through a rather fabulous vintage boutique and spotted the most incredible collection of classic, almost Victorian-inspired, ballet leotards. You could feel the history radiating from each and every seam, each and every bead. These weren’t the stretchy, sporty leotards you find today. They were masterpieces of craftsmanship – the perfect balance between grace and elegance.

Let’s jump back across the Atlantic now – it’s a bright sunny day in New York. As I step off the Time Machine into the concrete jungle, I’m instantly greeted by a delightful splash of vibrant leotard fashion. The street, filled with vibrant creativity – the epitome of urban cool and style! I caught sight of a performance troupe practicing for a street theatre show, sporting some fantastic, quirky leotards with playful patterns – bright florals, sparkly stripes, and an assortment of eye-catching neon hues. It was a kaleidoscope of colour, a vibrant tribute to freedom of expression.

As always, no adventure is complete without a trip to the ballet. I simply had to witness a performance by one of my favourite companies, the Royal Ballet, right here in the UK. The leotard fashion was simply stunning, as expected. This time, it wasn’t the colour of the leotards, but the fabric that truly fascinated me. There were some absolutely breathtakingly beautiful silky fabrics with intricate embroidery, the artistry was exquisite. The detail was incredible – an almost three-dimensional effect that truly captured the essence of the graceful, yet strong ballet movements.

Oh, darling, I just love how leotards change with the times – the different trends, the shapes, the materials - it's all so thrilling. They have this way of blending seamlessly from classic styles, worn with balletic elegance, to a more modern, and often bolder look that truly embraces contemporary trends and influences.

But speaking of trends, you just wouldn't believe how popular the colour pink is this month! It truly was everywhere – in clothing, makeup, home décor, even cars, it seemed pink had invaded the hearts and homes of the world! It’s like a vibrant, hopeful splash of optimism, bringing a cheerful twist to whatever it touches!

Of course, as you all know, the colour pink has a very special place in my heart! And it’s a color I’m very much determined to bring into the wider world of fashion. You know I am always championing my own little pink tutu revolution - a world where everyone wears pink, embraces its playful vibrancy and unleashes their own unique style! After all, a pink tutu is like a personal expression of joyful self-expression, and there's simply nothing better than that!
