Post #1535: A 1986 Fashion Flashback - The Pink Power of Leotards!

Hello darlings, and welcome to another edition of Pink-Tutu, your monthly dose of all things fabulous, leotard-tastic and undeniably pink! Today, we're going on a journey back to November 11th, 1986 – a time when leg warmers ruled, shoulder pads soared, and the leotard was experiencing its golden age!

My trusty pink sparkly time-travelling leotard and I are back in action, ready to delve into the dazzling world of leotard fashion from yesteryear. Imagine this: big hair, vibrant colours, and enough neon to illuminate a city. This, my loves, is the glorious world of 80s fashion we're stepping into today!

Now, I'm always keen to get your feedback. What’s your favourite decade for leotard fashion? Have you ever dreamt of time travelling to a specific era, say, the disco era, for some leotard-tastic fun? Tell me everything in the comments!

Right, back to 1986. Let's start by getting ourselves in the mood, shall we? Think Madonna, think “Like a Prayer” era! Think leggings, leg warmers, vibrant tights and of course, leotards that are everything from classic black and jewel-toned to vibrant turquoise and sizzling sunshine yellow! The 80s were all about celebrating freedom of expression through bold fashion choices.

We're not just looking at dance studios, darling, we're looking at leotards strutting their stuff everywhere – in aerobics classes, as everyday wear for some of the most stylish ladies (and gents!), and even in gym classes! Remember Jane Fonda and her legendary workouts? You can bet she was a leotard and legwarmer fan!

This era was also the golden age of the dancewear brand, Capezio. These iconic, leotard-centric fashion staples, from basic tank tops to colourful, patterned styles, are still being worn today, giving that vintage 80s charm a fresh update. You’d be amazed by how many dancers and fashion lovers still crave the classic Capezio leotard – they really are the epitome of stylish and functional!

On the theatre scene, we’re seeing a surge in leotard-inspired designs. The legendary ballet The Nutcracker has a vibrant costume filled with the dazzling leotard designs of the era!

Oh, and can we talk about Leotard Queen Debbie Allen, one of the best! Her role in "Fame" helped bring the leotard onto a mainstream stage, showcasing just how stylish, versatile, and expressive this wonderful garment truly is.

My fellow Derbyshire friends – I've always wanted to find the perfect pink tutu shop in Derby. I am always searching for some leotard inspiration right in my home county. Are you a Derbyshire leotard-lover too? Do let me know where I can find your favourites, I am ready to search every single corner of my beautiful county for the ultimate pink tutu store.

We’ve just scratched the surface, dear readers. There is SO much more to discuss, but this blog post is already bursting with leotard loveliness. My next journey will take us through the decade, with further fascinating glimpses of the colourful, stylish world of 1986’s leotard scene! But for now, let’s make like the 80s, turn up the volume, grab our leg warmers and sashay onto the dance floor. Remember, darlings: it’s a leotard world out there – make your statement in pink, with your pink tutu and of course, a leotard you just can’t resist!

Love,

Emma
