Pink Tutu Time Travels: September 1995 - Leotard History

*Hello my lovely lot, Emma here with my monthly Leotard Fashion Travel blog – a big ol' hello to all you lovelies from Derbyshire, England! Today's post is number 1641. How exciting? Time travelling in my magical, sparkly pink leotard is so much fun. And as for getting everyone to wear a pink tutu? I’m on a mission and nothing’s going to stop me, so stick with me my dears because I’m here to tell you that this pink tutu is here to stay! *

This month we’re swirling back in time to September 1995 and boy, oh boy, are we in for a treat. We’re about to dive into a world of fabulous fashion, with some iconic looks and enough sparkle to leave you speechless!

As always, my street ballet performances have kept the magic going for this trip, which thankfully meant I didn't have to worry about saving up any more for the magical time travel! This month I’ve been practicing my fouettés, pirouettes, and grand jetés on the cobbles in Derby, with a lovely old gentleman, named Arthur, singing "Over the Rainbow" in a rather shaky baritone, on a trombone - a right charmer! A couple of bob dropped in my tin with a lovely ‘God bless you, my dear’ to keep me going.

And I wouldn’t be doing my blog any justice without telling you all about the latest leotard fashion finds… my absolute faves! It seems that we've hit the height of the 90s fashion trends, so grab yourselves a double-dose of highlighter neon hues and prepare to unleash your inner 90's style diva. Trust me my dears, you won't regret it.

So, with that in mind, grab a slice of Victoria sponge cake and a cuppa. I'm going to take you on a delightful fashion voyage back in time.

It’s September 1995! The world of dance fashion is alive and vibrant with colour! Let's get started...

1) The Rise of Neon! We're starting things off with a bang - neon colours! The world is all about showcasing your individuality and boldness, and there's no better way to do that than with a leotard bursting with neon hues! Think bright pinks, vibrant oranges, and dazzling yellows. A must-have addition to every dancer's wardrobe! I'm actually wearing my own fabulous neon pink leotard right now, paired with my matching tutu – a perfect example of how you can channel this look. I was inspired by the fabulous pop group, TLC! Remember their 1994 hit 'Waterfalls?' Remember the incredible colours on display in that video? The fashion is everything - such fabulous bold style. **

2) The Sporty Aesthetic! You can't escape the sporty look this year - it’s everywhere, and it’s not going anywhere! Look to sporty fashion for that high energy style. Leotards with geometric prints, contrasting colours and high cut leg lines perfectly match this aesthetic. We're embracing this mix of street and dancewear style, adding a touch of that street chic, edgy coolness to our dance routines and to our leotards too!

3) The Importance of Prints! Forget plain colours. We’re going for the full explosion of patterns this year – with leotards that truly make a statement! Think about adding vibrant abstract art to your dance wardrobe with bold geometric shapes, and funky animal prints! This look can be fun and dynamic, but if you like a more classic look, floral and polka dot designs offer a cute, fun twist that's perfect for ballet practice and stage performances.

4) Accessories galore! Forget simply going for the usual ballerina look – the leotard and tutu combo! Think about layering with accessories. I know, you might think it's a bit extreme, but hear me out. It's all about layering – that 90’s look. Think layered pieces to really ramp up your style! It's a really great look for showcasing your individual personality. Whether it’s adding a long-sleeved shirt over your leotard or a simple chain around your neck – accessories are truly a dancer’s best friend. Just remember, a little goes a long way when it comes to layering to create the perfect street chic look, that will keep you on-trend.

5) Keep it Chic - The Little Black Dress! If there's one thing that will never go out of style, it's the Little Black Dress (LBD)! The LBD is classic and chic for both on-stage and off-stage wear. And believe me it was very chic! Black leotards in 1995, teamed with a matching tutu, were so incredibly chic - it was all about subtle simplicity! But we all love a bit of an edge in our outfits and black was certainly popular this month. I remember spotting a young lady, looking like an absolute diva, in an exquisite black leotard - just simply stunning! And, even today, you’ll find the black leotard in every dancers wardrobe. That’s why I’ve got at least a dozen tucked away in my own special, glitter covered, Leotard Box! I love to keep it real with those staple outfits.

6) Get ready for some serious footwear! We're not just talking about those pretty, satin pointe shoes, here. Forget the frills – they're gone, so ditch the sparkles! Think about your leotard choice as a statement piece and make a style splash. Remember it’s 1995 – those chunky, clunky boots were making an appearance on every fashion catwalk! You might just find these are the perfect dance shoe – so comfy! **

So there we have it – leotard fashion for September 1995! I hope I’ve inspired you all. I can't wait to hop back in my sparkly pink time-traveling leotard and see what’s next in the wonderful world of Leotard Fashion. Until next month, my dear dancers – I’m going to be keeping busy by creating new routines. It’s all about the art of dance. So, remember to keep on swirling and twirling. Always wear that smile. Don't be shy - let your personality shine, let that light within you come out - show the world just what you are capable of doing!

*Check out our website at www.pink-tutu.com! Have a lovely time, keep smiling, and keep twirling those tutus! *

See you next month for another adventure into leotard fashion.
Hugs and twirls!
Emma

Stay Fabulous!
