Post #1778: A Twirl Through Time! - February 2007

Hey lovelies! Emma here, back from another whirlwind adventure through the captivating world of leotard history! This month, my sparkly pink time-traveling leotard took me all the way back to February 2007. Honestly, darling, you wouldn't believe the fashion I found there! It's got me dreaming about those styles all over again.

As always, my trusty pink tutu twirled with me every step of the way, and believe me, this trip called for its best performance! I mean, who doesn't need a good twirl when you're witnessing leotard evolution in action?!

But before we delve into the glorious sartorial discoveries, let's catch up a bit! The Derbyshire air is a bit brisk these days, but my street ballet performances have been going swimmingly. A lovely lady in Bakewell bought a dozen pink tutus for her granddaughter, which filled me with a smidgen more of my life's purpose: getting the world in pink tutus! Every pink tulle twirl makes me tickled pink! 😉

Speaking of tickled pink, last week I stumbled upon the most delightful ballet show at the Royal Opera House! It was Giselle and my dears, the costumes were just… chefs kiss! So elegant, so delicate, like a dream spun from gossamer and sunshine. Those glorious tulle skirts just swished with every pirouette. Pure magic!

Now, for February 2007. My time travels took me straight to… well, London, of course! And boy oh boy, what a bustling city! But London's always bustling, you see! You have to look closely at the really important details, and that is precisely why I love time traveling in my magical leotard! And what is that REALLY important detail, you ask? Why, leotards! Always leotards!

My first stop? A trip back in time to the ballet! In 2007, a beautiful new production of Swan Lake was premiering in London, and darling, it was absolutely everything! You know how I feel about swans (not just the ballet swan, obviously!), so a black swan costume had me all flustered with excitement. It featured these gorgeous intricate black tulle embellishments, a stunning contrast to the pure white elegance of the traditional costume. Such artistry! And I simply had to take a couple of photographs for you, lovelies! The swan theme was still so en vogue in 2007 and oh how it still makes my heart flutter now, seeing these magnificent black tutus fluttering around the stage, making the air sparkle and shimmer.

But what would time travel be without a good old-fashioned fashion show?! Back in the year 2007, the legendary Victoria's Secret Fashion Show had everyone's attention, especially mine! It's funny, in all my time travels, that show has always had a place in my fashion heart. You can tell it was a time capsule of amazingness! That year, a rather fabulous pair of leotards featured the colour pink – my favourite, obviously! – and the sparkle, darling, the sparkle! I almost didn't want to leave. You wouldn't believe the glow they had. Oh, if only I could snag those for my collection… maybe in a future adventure, hint, hint… 😉

My lovelies, while on this enchanting voyage, I couldn't leave 2007 without stepping into the wonderful world of street fashion! The look? The ballet core look. All those beautiful dancewear basics and activewear blending perfectly with everyday style, it was breathtaking. You know, like a gorgeous ballerina doing their thing while looking extra chic! It was very inspiring. The best part, dear? You'll still find plenty of it in fashion stores now!

As my trip back to 2007 came to a close, I couldn’t help but think: oh what a lovely trip it was! Just like this trip! Seeing those incredible outfits and styles from all those years ago… well, it fills me with such excitement to keep traveling and keep exploring more history of this incredible garment, this truly beautiful item of clothing, the leotard!

This February's been full of dancing and adventure, and I've got the twirliest plans for next month! Oh, sweetie, I just know you won't want to miss what my pink leotard is bringing me next! But, of course, you'll be first to know! Keep checking back, and in the meantime, go put on a pink tutu, my darling! The world is waiting for your glorious twirl!

XOXO, Emma
