Firstly, can we just talk about the gorgeous weather in March 2012? The sun was shining, birds were singing, and I swear, the world was buzzing with the promise of spring. I had the most delightful street performance that month. My outfit? My lucky charm - my shimmering pink leotard paired with a perfectly puffy pink tutu. The crowds were amazing, they just lapped up my dancing, even a little girl, about five years old, danced with me - she was just adorable! You see, it's more than just the leotard and the tutu, it’s about inspiring the next generation to embrace the beauty of movement, to celebrate self-expression. It’s a feeling, darlings, it's a pink feeling!
Anyway, I have to get back to my time travelling - it’s what I’m best at! Now, on with my tale about what happened in leotard fashion way back in 2012.
March 2012 - A Leotard Time Capsule Leotard Trends:Fashion-wise, in 2012 the leotard was firmly on the catwalk - in fact, everyone from top fashion houses like Balmain to smaller labels like Miu Miu were embracing leotards in their designs. It was a time of bold colours and interesting textures, with sporty elements becoming a must-have! You had the classic leotard - but with a twist, a new spin, that sassy, confident vibe!
If we look at Dancewear at the time, well, you could not escape the colour neon. Everything was neon! Leotards were a burst of bright energy. Think pink, lime, orange - and even bright yellow! And who can forget the iconic colour-block leotard with its eye-catching designs? Those patterns just blew my mind, all that fun with colours and shapes, it’s what leotards are all about.
Performance Wear:Speaking of bright colours and confidence, those colour-block leotards took the stage by storm in dance performance. Those brilliant bold blocks of colour really made a statement - they’re a real crowd-pleaser, you know. Remember, you can’t go wrong with a classic black leotard - especially paired with a dazzlingly bright tutu. You're simply glowing under the stage lights.
I actually stumbled upon the London Royal Ballet during a quick detour through time that month, the performances were captivating - a timeless ballet and such stunning outfits - just the inspiration you need for your street dance routines!
Now, my blog wouldn’t be complete without a little nod to fitness, so, yes, in 2012, leotards were having their moment in the gym too! Even the fashion blogs at the time were raving about them! People wanted to feel sporty and glamorous, a bit of chic and athletic all rolled into one, it made perfect sense to embrace the leotard's versatility!

Of course, for me, a tutu in any style - any colour - but especially pink - is like a dream come true! But let’s be honest - there is a specific type of pink that is simply magical! It’s like the pinkest pink, the sweetest, fluffiest pink, almost like a cotton candy dream! That was definitely a pink trend that everyone was talking about!
