January 2013 - A Fashion Retrospective
Oh my goodness, 2013! It was a time of bold colours, daring trends, and, of course, stunning leotard fashion!
I landed in London, the very heart of leotard love, just as the world of dance was abuzz with the premiere of Matthew Bourne's iconic "Swan Lake". The iconic production, which transformed the traditional ballet into a captivating tale of love and tragedy, featured striking leotards with innovative use of black and white - think shimmering spandex with a touch of rebellion! A perfect way to embrace both the elegance and the audacity of the ballet world.
Now, it's a known fact that my absolute favourite colour is pink, so naturally, I went straight to Covent Garden. The iconic London Opera House was showcasing an enchanting ballet production of "The Sleeping Beauty" and the leading ladies' tutus, oh they were divine! I mean, the softness, the tulle, and those exquisite details! A sight to behold!
Street Style Stumbles
Now, I always love a good peek at what's happening on the streets when I time travel. After all, who says ballet style can't inspire your everyday wear? 2013 was a whirlwind of bright colours and retro inspiration! Leotards were big - bold colours and funky designs were all the rage. Remember the geometric patterns? The daringly short sleeves? So many of those designs ended up creeping into contemporary fashion. We were even starting to see the emergence of a more casual yet chic style, with comfy ballet flats being paired with everything from jeans to dresses! A trend I completely endorse, my dears.
Back in Time with a Pink Twist
Back in Derbyshire, I decided to show off my 2013 style in a street ballet performance! It was an explosion of bright pink! You could say, a real "tutu much", right? 😉 And you know what? It was a complete success! People cheered, danced with me, and even started incorporating some pink tutu fun into their own outfits! Just goes to show, you don't need to be on a grand stage to spread joy - sometimes, a bit of pink and a twirl are all it takes!
The Future of Pink Tutu
As I embarked on my journey back to my own time, I couldn't help but ponder the future of leotards. They've become a staple of performance, a symbol of grace, and, in my opinion, a perfect embodiment of femininity and empowerment!
