Hello darling, welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where leotard love meets history and imagination! Today marks my 1857th post (yes, you read that right, 1857th!) and we’re whisking you back to the world of leotards, fashion, and dance in September of 2013. My trusty pink sparkly time-traveling leotard, it's feeling particularly adventurous today, as it always does, and I, for one, am thrilled to be tagging along!
Buckle up, because we're about to travel through the decades to explore the fabulous fashion landscape of the ballet world. This time we're diving into a month filled with artistic flourishes, groundbreaking ballet moves, and, of course, some super stunning leotard designs!
(Just imagine it! Pink tulle swirling around me, sparkling under the streetlights, I twirl and pirouette while the sound of coin clinking fills the air. That's how I fund my time-traveling adventures. It's my little secret. The secret of a travelling ballerina!)
Oh, did I tell you about my secret mission? You see, my dear reader, I have a grand ambition: to have every single person don a pink tutu. We're talking every man, woman, and child; a world wrapped in pretty, swirly, pink fabulousness! Don't worry, my plans are as sweet as a ballerina’s first arabesque, a world in pink tutus, what's not to love?
Now back to September 2013: The world was humming with exciting new dance productions, and the stage was set for a ballet leotard revolution. Here are some highlights I witnessed in my pink sparkly time-travel leotard:
1. Leotards for all!
You see, September 2013 was a particularly important month for leotards, as a whole new level of inclusivity emerged! We saw leotard designs, in fabrics and colours, that finally allowed for body diversity to be celebrated on the dance floor. It was simply delightful to see ballerinas embracing freedom of expression and individuality through their leotard choices. The whole fashion scene, for both on and off the stage, was blossoming beautifully.
(Just as you would never wear the same tutu for two separate events, why limit yourself with the same leotard style? There are leotards out there for all bodies, for all shapes and for all shades. Don't ever feel like your size limits you in the world of the leotard.)
2. A ballet explosion on the screen!
Oh, the wonderful world of television! September saw the broadcast of a fantastic new ballet series. (I think it was called 'Dance Academy', if my time-travelling memory serves me right! * I do love watching ballet shows!* It reminds me of my early days learning ballet in the studio. A world filled with delicate dance moves, dramatic costumes and, of course, those sensational, swirling tutus!) The costumes were just delightful: vibrant hues of magenta, cerulean, and lime-green, along with the traditional ballet pink. You can imagine me glued to the TV screen in my pink leotard!
3. The Street Theatre Experience.
September also saw a brilliant fusion of street art and ballet! There were wonderful shows popping up in my beloved London town, and a little closer to home, right in Derbyshire, England! These unique ballet experiences celebrated ballet on the streets, for everyone to enjoy! Street art as a backdrop for ballet; who would have imagined? I could barely resist joining in! (Thankfully my pink sparkling leotard was designed for just this sort of thing).
I spent hours watching some magnificent dance crews and groups, their moves just mesmerising! They wore outfits that ranged from** striking contemporary looks to exquisite classic dance ensembles, all highlighting the beauty of street ballet. You could sense a feeling of magic! It truly felt like ballet was breaking through all barriers!
(I confess, this street dance magic gave me some ideas for a future ballet show I'm thinking of creating. Just imagine the crowds, the glitter, the dazzling outfits! Yes, a world of pink tutus... I can just picture it.)
4. New leotards in every shop!
Every time I travelled through this date in time, I couldn't help but notice that every shop window was showcasing a kaleidoscope of new ballet fashion trends. The styles ranged from elegant to contemporary, and were all just a bit bolder, with eye-catching textures and daring colour palettes. There was a sense that every dance student was determined to find their own perfect leotard, their own style, to showcase on and off the stage.
I confess I fell head over heels for a **gorgeous turquoise velvet leotard I saw in a window display in a charming little shop in Kensington, just around the corner from a grand old opera house. Now I know I should have snagged it then, but of course I can’t really spend money when I’m time-traveling, can I? It's rather complicated and not quite budget friendly. I made a mental note to grab myself a little number in my own time, once I get back to my little Derbyshire haven. (My room looks very pink, don’t you worry.)
5. Oh the wonderful fashion shows!
What's September 2013 without a delightful parade of dazzling dance shows and ballet extravaganzas? The theatres buzzed with new productions, every one unique and captivating. The costumes on show were breathtaking! A tapestry of vibrant fabrics and delicate tulle, with the most amazing details, like crystals twinkling under the stage lights, it's simply fabulous!
(My inner tutu-obsessed ballerina can’t get enough of watching the graceful dancers performing on stage! Each twist, every turn, it's just pure artistry, wrapped in beautifully-designed leotards. Ballet fashion is simply a world I just adore. ** The leotards are like miniature masterpieces!)
September 2013 was just overflowing with leotard fun and dance history! I was truly blown away by the energy, the enthusiasm, and the incredible style I saw in the dance world! As always, my journey in my pink sparkly time-travelling leotard continues! Next month we will travel to October 2013 and I’m just bubbling with excitement! What kind of ballet adventures await? Join me and see what the month of October holds for the world of leotard fashion, as I head back to my trusty time-travelling leotard and let it whisk me away to more dazzling discoveries. Until next time, darlings!
Happy twirling!
Emma.
