Leotard History - March 2019 - The Glittering Ballet of the Parisian Streets!

Hello darling, Emma here from Pink Tutu and welcome back to Leotard History! It's March 2019, the month of sunshine (we hope), the daffodils popping out of the ground (we pray) and... the month of leotard dreams, naturally! This time, I'm whipping you off to Paris, my fashion muses, for a taste of Parisian street ballet - where even the cobblestones tap to the beat of the city!

You know how much I love pink. And tutus? Well, obviously! But honestly, nothing excites me quite like discovering a new vintage leotard style. And March 1919 delivered a whole symphony of fashion - like a whirlwind performance, only in the streets of Paris, with tutus aplenty!

So, grab your favourite cuppa, let's sit by the fire, and I'll tell you all about this month's trip back to the fascinating world of leotard fashion!

Pink Sparkles: The Parisian Premiere of My Magical Leotard

Oh, darling, I love the drama! Remember last month's trip? That fantastic vintage Parisian waltz class, you know the one - I told you we should all get back into swirling skirts!

Well, this month, we’re going up a level - think showstopping, sparkly debut - and it’s all about my leotard, darling. I am practically vibrating with excitement about this. You see, I finally finished my sparkling pink time travel leotard - my special performance outfit. It took months of research, sourcing the perfect sequins and rhinestones.

Think vintage Hollywood meets Parisian chic. Picture this: It’s got a low back, a glittering bodice that flashes as I twirl, with a perfectly balanced short tulle skirt, all in shades of pink, baby!

Now, I won’t give away too many secrets… but let’s just say it's superb and it comes equipped with magical travel properties! I can be anywhere, anytime - all within a flash.

Imagine all the fantastic historical leotards we can discover now, and imagine all the vintage shops and performances I can get my little dancing hands on. But where does one begin? Well, darling, I always start with the latest - and what was the hottest style on March 3rd 1919? Why, the Ballet Russe in Paris, of course!

The Ballet Russe: The Reign of Pink on Parisian Stages

The Parisian air was buzzing in March 1919 - the Ballet Russe were performing Scheherazade.

You know how much I love a good show! This ballet's fashion is all about sumptuous gowns, flowing drapes, vibrant colors… all beautifully embodied by legendary ballerina Tamara Karsavina. Can you believe it? Even then, she was one of the biggest dance fashion icons of the time - a true leotard queen!

This performance is where I found inspiration for this month’s street fashion routine. You can't be in Paris without paying homage to their heritage, can you, darling? It's like a calling, almost like a secret language that whispers through the centuries.

Let me tell you, this show had everything! You're talking* dramatic costumes* with swirling scarves, flowing ribbons, and beautiful details.

It's not just the leotards that I’m into either, darlings! Footwear! Those dancers had such graceful shoes - beautifully elegant silk slippers, with embroidery to match the colours of their costumes.

The Street Ballerina

Of course, Paris isn’t just about theatrical stages! The Parisian streets, themselves, are stages, darlings. And that's where the true magic happens, at least for this fashion-forward time-travelling ballerina! This year, there’s an electrifying spirit - people are dancing in the street, and you can really feel the vibe. The leotard fashion here? A fascinating blend of comfort, femininity and rebellious flair!

Paris is buzzing with new ideas, and women are adopting them with gusto. Gone are the stiff, corsets of earlier eras - we're entering an age where women want freedom of movement! Comfort, versatility, and above all expression are the cornerstones of street leotard fashion in 1919.

I even saw a couple of girls, dare I say, dancing with leotard inspired outfits! There’s a stylish simplicity to their silhouettes. You know how much I love those! Think fitted, yet fluid lines, perhaps a simple leotard, but they've chosen an extravagant color!

You see, Parisian fashion doesn't stop at high-class dance shows - it spills into everyday life!

And what better place for a ballerina like me, who funds her travels through street performances, darlings!

Leotard Fashion is the Gift that Keeps on Giving

Here’s the thing, I’ve found that every era brings something new to the world of leotard fashion - and the past few years have really seen things bloom in a delightful way.

For instance, just the other day, I bumped into a fabulous pair of leggings! It turns out, these beauties date back to 1919 too! You know how much I love my leggings! Thigh-high leggings, in vibrant pink, of course! It seems my passion for bright colors is not new, darlings! They're practical, versatile - but best of all they look amazing! This really opened up a whole world of possibilities - like vintage fashion collaborations or updating old styles!

And there’s no shortage of leotard fashion inspiration in March 1919! Just walking down the Champs-Élysées, I saw women wearing* loose fitting jumpsuits!* So daring for the time - bold and vibrant, yet stylishly comfortable - a true testament to how women were embracing self-expression in every aspect of their lives.

There is truly something beautiful to be discovered in each decade.

But here’s the big reveal for the month, darling:

You're Looking Gorgeous in Your Tutu:

While exploring the Parisian streets, something amazing happened, something truly life-changing. It was as though the universe aligned to create the perfect moment!

I was standing on the steps of a cafe - a gorgeous pink cafe! And there she was! The prettiest ballerina, with the sweetest smile and a tutu - a true Parisian street ballerina, right in front of me. She was swirling around the streets of Paris in her pink tutu - a symbol of freedom, grace and, yes, fashion!

It was like an enchanting movie scene, where everyone was dancing.

At that moment, my world flipped! I suddenly realized something extraordinary about leotard history and our collective fashion obsession - that the true beauty lies in how we choose to express ourselves! Not just in the leotard itself, darlings, but the confidence it gives us, the way we embrace its story, the message we send out into the world with every twirl!

The real magic of leotards, it’s in those moments where we let ourselves dance, in a pink tutu, down the Parisian streets, with a heart full of love and a spirit as free as a swallow flying through the air.

Oh darling, remember, a tutu isn't just a garment, it's a symbol - a symbol of confidence, freedom, creativity and sheer joy!

I'm not just about sharing historical fashion, darling, I'm about inspiring a revolution of fun, grace, and fashion through the glorious pink tutu! Because, if the Parisian streets can have ballet, and ballet can have tutus, we can all embrace this little piece of fashion heaven, wherever we are, no matter what the era.

Let's join forces, darling! Let’s bring a little sprinkle of pink magic to the world, with every spin, every swirl, and every leap - we are not just dancing, darling, we are making history.

Until next month, my loves, may all your leotard dreams come true, with the glitz, the glamour, and of course, a dash of pink magic. I'll see you at pink-tutu.com!

XOXO, Emma.
