A Peek Back into Leotard Fashion in 2020!

Remember what was going on back in November 2020, ladies?

The Leotard Scene:

Back then, the leotard fashion scene was bursting with fun trends and creative inspiration. We were on the verge of the next big thing – the eco-conscious leotard! Many top brands, especially those who used dancewear on stage, had begun launching sustainable options using eco-friendly materials.

Remember those fabulous recycled leotards? My time travelling bag is full of vintage finds! There were all kinds of interesting designs made with materials like bamboo and recycled plastic – fabulously vibrant shades of green and bright yellows, plus bold animal print designs and interesting textural pieces! Remember how people were also pushing boundaries when it came to traditional ballet styles? We had this whole athleisure movement too. Ballet classes were being taught outside, in public spaces! Now that’s something to dance about!

The Colour Trends

Looking back on 2020, it was definitely the year of bright colours, just like our iconic pink tutus, and this vibrant energy spilled over into the world of leotards. Remember the trend of vibrant citrus shades and hot pink and orange leotards? I have a whole closet full of them! And let’s not forget about the glitter – it’s like the more the merrier when it came to leotards back then!

Social Media's Impact

Ah yes, that wonder of modern life - social media! What a powerful force in leotard fashion in 2020! From TikTok trends to YouTube videos, everyone was showcasing their love for stylish dancewear and sharing inspiration from all sorts of sources - dancers from all backgrounds. Let's just say, back then, I couldn’t wait to hop on my social media apps each day and browse through new videos showcasing innovative styles, fun dance trends, and of course, lots of those adorable sparkly pink tutus!

A Day of Dancing in November 2020!

It was the 11th November, a Tuesday, so it was time for ballet class. Remember that time when dancers all had to dance with social distancing in place? That was an unusual time! A dance-y one to remember, to be sure. We were all still very much under the impact of that worldwide pandemic. And yet, despite all that, everyone was finding ways to get out and enjoy dance and its incredible community, no matter the restrictions. That’s one thing about the dance community – it brings us all together! I felt that sense of togetherness more than ever that day!

For me, on that November day, it was time for a ballet class – we were learning en pointe techniques for a big recital that was being organized to raise funds for a local dance studio that had been facing a tough time. I couldn't believe how creative everyone had been when it came to their dancing. That show was packed with colourful and unique choreography – a real explosion of artistry and individuality! We had street dancing, tap, contemporary, ballet, everything - the stage was ablaze with energy! I have to admit I also really enjoyed catching up with everyone and seeing their bright, colourful and stylish new leotards! It really was an unforgettable performance.

Remember that passion everyone felt back then? How we danced through a global crisis and supported each other in the best way possible - by being together on the dance floor.

A Peek Behind the Scenes: Leotard Designers!

To finish our time-traveling adventure for this month, I want to shout out to a few amazing leotard designers who really made their mark in 2020! Let's start with that beautiful "Green and Blue Dreams" brand - they really knocked it out of the park with their vibrant colour palettes. Remember their designs with those beautiful splashes of green and blue and how gorgeous they looked in studio light, when we were still learning how to film ourselves during the lockdowns?

Next up, let's not forget the incredible "The Purple Blossom" leotard range, with their stylish and sustainable designs! The recycled materials they used for these leotards were simply revolutionary and super affordable, which was great, because people were struggling financially because of the pandemic, but everyone was excited to have something new for ballet and dance.

And let’s finish with that incredible "Dance With Nature" leotard collection – the bright yellows and vibrant oranges really blew me away, and the bamboo fabrics? Stunning! Remember their focus on making stylish but ethical leotards? A real game changer back then!

The World is Our Stage!

So there you have it, my darling darlings - my time travelling leotard adventures! We’ve seen how far leotard fashion has come in the past few years, but it was really fantastic to take a step back to 11th November 2020 to celebrate how dancers adapted to tough times. Remember, our journey through leotard fashion history has just begun. Each month I’m looking forward to new adventures, and discovering amazing leotards that you will adore just as much as I do. And as always, if you’ve got any exciting news on upcoming ballet performances in Derbyshire or further afield - don’t be shy, give me a shout!

But for now, until next month my lovely darlings - it's time to pack away my time travelling pink sparkling leotard, give my trusty tutu a polish, and get out there and show the world how much leotard love we've got! Remember: The world is our stage, so let's dance in style and love the colour pink! See you next month my lovelies!
