March 2021: From London to Moscow, It's All About the Leotard!This month, we find ourselves flitting through the history of the leotard, witnessing the delightful styles of 2021 and the exciting innovations sweeping the dance world. It was such an exciting month! Oh, and of course, you know me - I was strutting my stuff in a gloriously pink tutu wherever I went!
London: The Lyrical Leotard and Street-Style Sparkle ✨Let's begin in the pulsating heart of London, a city where fashion flows like the River Thames! Here, I stumbled upon a captivating exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, all about the history of ballet costumes. It was pure magic!
My eyes were practically sparkling as I beheld vintage leotards from the 19th century. It was truly mind-blowing to see how the simple design of the leotard evolved to create such elaborate, exquisite stage attire!
The highlight was the breathtaking display of costumes worn by Margot Fonteyn. A classic black tulle tutu - the quintessential ballerina outfit! Oh, it made me yearn for the elegant steps of the Bolshoi Theatre and dream of the glittering grandeur of the Swan Lake stage!
Of course, in London, it's impossible to escape the latest fashion trends! While I was gazing upon the grace of the ballerinas of yesteryear, I also got a glimpse into the modern street-style leotard.
In Shoreditch, the fashion capital of London, it seemed everyone was sporting a leotard! From sporty black designs to chic velvet ones, they were paired with everything - from denim jackets and trainers to luxurious maxi skirts and high heels! It truly showcased how versatile leotards have become, going beyond just ballet!
I felt a surge of inspiration to design my own street-style leotard - maybe one with some delicate lace panels or playful frills? 😉 After all, even street fashion is an expression of self and allows us to celebrate our unique beauty!
Moscow: The Russian Ballet, A Leotard Legacy! 🩰No leotard journey can be complete without a trip to Russia, the birthplace of legendary ballerinas! From St Petersburg to Moscow, I found myself immersed in the rich tapestry of ballet history. I even had the incredible fortune to watch a performance by the Bolshoi Ballet, one of the most respected ballet companies in the world!
And what was their choice of attire? Classic white leotards, simple yet sophisticated. But even the simplest designs were brought to life with their impeccable artistry and captivating performance. Each graceful movement showcased the delicate fabric and its inherent beauty!
And just like London, the streets of Moscow are also infused with leotard fashion. Here, though, the focus was on the sleek and sporty designs! Russian dancers, with their effortless elegance, are known for their powerful leaps and captivating moves. They were often sporting sporty leotards paired with stylish streetwear. It's this fusion of styles that really caught my eye!
As I stood there admiring their talent, I knew this trip was more than just a fashion inspiration. It was a reminder that ballet transcends language and borders. The shared passion for dance and movement brings the world together in a symphony of grace and beauty!
