My trusty tutu twirling got a warm reception in Derby, England, and I must say, the folks back home still have a good sense of the fun! The little ones were mesmerized by my pink shimmer, while the elders couldn't help but tap their toes along - good fun for everyone, and a perfect reminder why my street ballet is such a wonderful way to raise funds for my travels!
Feeling refreshed from my Derby adventure, I journeyed into the swirling vortex of 2024, and landed… right at the centre of The Dance Show in Birmingham, UK! Can you even believe it, darling? This was a chance to see the future of leotard fashion in all its glory - and what a whirlwind it was!
There was such an exciting mix of colours and styles - I was simply giddy! The sleek, sporty looks with a touch of sporty sparkle caught my eye - a perfect nod to the growing trend for practicality and athleticism in dance wear. However, there were plenty of classic and timeless designs with nods to the past too. Several designs featured stunning patterns and unique cuts that evoked the rich history of leotards, which naturally had my heart fluttering!
But that's not all! My dear reader, one specific highlight of the event was the "Leotard of the Year" competition. Let's just say the fashion gods themselves were involved! A grand competition for the ultimate title of dancewear stardom. I just had to watch from the sidelines, admiring the daring designs, the creative twists on classic silhouettes, and the glorious showcase of dancewear artistry. The winner? An exquisite, bespoke piece designed by a local Birmingham artist. It had a whimsical feel, with layers of tulle, ribbons and intricate embellishments, and it simply took my breath away.
