Leotard History: September 2033! Post Number: 2097

Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, and oh my gosh, you won’t believe where I’ve been this month! I’m so excited to tell you all about my time travel adventures in the exciting, exciting, futuristic world of 2033, where leotard fashion has totally gone next-level!

It’s always a treat travelling through time. There’s nothing quite like it. Especially when you have the magical pink sparkling leotard. Just put it on, close your eyes, twirl and off you go – straight to a specific date and place in history. I even have a fancy new app now that works on my leotard! You wouldn’t believe it. You tap it on the leotard and say ‘take me to 2033 September, England’ and whoosh! It whisks you straight there, right to your chosen spot. So fabulous.

This time I’ve taken the whole month, as there’s been such a LOT to explore in the world of leotard fashion and street dance in this exciting new year. From London to Paris, the buzz about ballet-inspired fashion was unbelievable, especially as the London Olympics was on this month! And honestly, there was just SO much pink – I felt right at home!

You see, my friends, I’ve been on a lifelong mission, spreading the pink tutu gospel. As my lovely mum always said – you can’t ever be too sparkly. She’d know. She was a real queen of the disco back in the seventies! Now, even if I do say so myself, I’m like her 21st century, more futuristic, leotard and tutu, version. A little bit of magic and lots of pink. And I am pretty sure my sparkly time travel leotard does give me special powers.

Anyway, the pink leotard is part of what I think about when I’m working on a blog post, because of my mission to get the world wearing pink tutus. And as I always say, what better way to experience fashion history, than to be in it? You never really understand it until you're dancing your heart out, wearing a gorgeous pink leotard in that time!

I just love watching dancers express themselves through movement and clothes. Ballet has a huge and special place in my heart – it's pure artistry and it just gives me the most joyous feeling.

September 2033 – The Future of Dance in London!

The Olympic Games were taking place in London and what a glorious sight! I danced around a little in Hyde Park, making friends and sharing a pink tutu, just to brighten the day. I’d never seen such a mix of national dance and urban street dance. From balletic elements being woven into breakdance moves, to the most spectacular synchronised swimming ever.

The Olympics were full of artistic talent, as you can imagine. And with street dance and dancehall performances everywhere, all the best fashion trends were out in force, making their debut for all to see!

This was street ballet on a truly international level! There was something for everyone and, best of all, lots of people dressed in their amazing leotard designs, in shades of pink, of course!

There was a super chic street ballet dancer, named Nadia, she was performing at Hyde Park. She wore an almost-futuristic, ultra sleek, shiny black leotard with matching ankle boots and a holographic sparkly wrap – but the highlight of her performance? Her neon pink sparkly tutu with holographic pink ribbons flowing in the air. Her outfit totally stole the show!

Nadia's style is a must for my “pink tutu fashion file!” I really, really need to work on a look similar to this, the combination of classic and modern fashion was so much fun! Nadia told me about a fabulous pink tutudress, called ‘Twinkle' on the internet by ‘Starlight Leotard,’ designed especially for the games! It had been in all the magazines, with the stars wearing it, like Kylie, and all the Olympic athletes – amazing! She showed me on her smartphone and told me about the special 'eco-conscious' fabric and a sparkly finish, it had even got all sorts of awards! She had told me she'd seen a whole gang of girls perform on ‘the new stage at the River Thames’ who’d made their own versions of it! The look was HUGE.

New-Generation Dance Theatre: Ballet's Bright Future

Later that week, I’d booked myself tickets for ‘The Future of Ballet: Beyond the Dance’ performance. They even had a ballet version of ‘Hamilton' – such a great show, very modern! I love this period, and my blog post about the seventies really got lots of reads, so you’ve got to imagine my excitement over seeing a piece that mixed Shakespearean verse, hip-hop and contemporary dance moves! The audience just lapped it up, and the reviews afterwards had rave feedback about the costume designs too, full of sleek metallic colours and even some pink tutudresses!

I went shopping afterwards to get inspired! The shops here were brimming with stunning leotard fashion. From a chic silver sparkly, leotard dress by “Starlight Leotard,” which was super popular with all the Olympic girls to some ultra sleek black dance outfits that made me dream about dancehall, There were neon leotards with contrasting silver seams for a more streetwear vibe, with everything, like hoodies and mesh tops, available for the dancewear lovers and just all sorts of things for your workout needs too. Everything had that modern look – even your average comfy-style ‘activewear’ had a real futuristic feel!

Across the Channel: Paris Fashion Week, Pink Leotards Galore!

You'd never guess who’s my all-time favourite leotard fashionista - Coco Chanel. It’s a big clichĂ©, I know. But seriously, she's got amazing taste! And she invented a certain Parisian chic! Anyway, my travel time got cut down even shorter this month. Because it was Paris Fashion Week – the ultimate for all things glamorous. My friend Sylvie in Paris, the coolest vintage leotard collector, is just obsessed with all things vintage, especially everything pink – she had told me the buzz about street dancing would be ‘massive’. And how right she was! The dance theatre and contemporary fashion were merging, giving an eclectic '70s revival, but even more modern – in every street, and at every show.

That same futuristic style, in everything from leggings, skirts to tops with tutudresses. You'll never see such amazing sparkly colours and textures, from bright green to deep reds and of course, more beautiful, dazzling pinks than you'd ever dreamed! You could definitely feel a new generation, taking everything to a whole new level. And everyone wore a sparkly leotard with pride! It's a huge inspiration, you’ll be seeing a whole new style soon!

I met some wonderful people at a fantastic leotard pop-up event on the Place de la RĂ©publique! The dancers there all seemed really into vintage and the 90s trends in leotards. That whole idea of pairing something really sporty, with a super stylish leotard. I went home, to Derbyshire, that same day, in search of the ultimate, chic vintage pink leotard! It’s a secret mission of mine to find a hidden gem for a future post. And my favourite vintage stores in Derbyshire always have something extra-special, tucked away!

I think the new leotard trends for 2034 look to be truly exciting! So watch this space!
