#LeotardHistory during 2042 02

Welcome, my lovelies, to another edition of Pink Tutu Travels!

This month, my magical pink leotard whisked me right into the future - 2042! I must say, it’s rather wonderful - it’s a year filled with colourful possibilities and fascinating fashions. Just what you'd expect from the year you’re able to travel back to see! This post marks my 2198th since I began blogging on www.pink-tutu.com.

And yes, darling, that means another amazing month of ballet, fashion, and, of course, travelling in style - my signature pink tutu in tow! Let’s get straight to it.

Imagine a world where ballet has infiltrated every corner of everyday life! That’s 2042. You might even think this is a futuristic ballet themed fantasy, however trust me this is where it all started.

Stepping out of my trusty time machine, I was instantly transported to the bustling heart of a futuristic city that seemed straight out of a science fiction movie. Cars swished smoothly above me, propelled by gravity. Buildings were sculpted glass towers, and every storefront glittered with colours of the future.

I was immediately enchanted! However I could hardly stand still as I was absolutely bubbling over to get out and about in my leotard! Where was my time traveling outfit, let me just show you:

Anyway, back to our adventures - so I started my day as usual - street ballet! In a beautiful courtyard brimming with exotic flowers, I set my Tutu Time-Machine spinning! (I love dancing this one! You have to watch this in action - this dance takes ballet movements, spins them on their side and gets everyone laughing at the same time. ) It’s my signature piece! A playful ballet-inspired street performance where even those non-ballet dancers amongst us can join in!

You'd be amazed how many people took part. By the time the last music notes were finished, I was positively breathless from the applause and the exhilaration of performing, plus, it's a fantastic way of earning a little extra. I must confess to using this extra money for a special treat - new leotards!

The fashion of the future! Oh my! This year they have embraced a bold and beautiful approach to leotard design. What’s more, fabrics have transformed with innovative textures - silks shimmered with subtle lighting patterns, metallic fabrics are now super-smooth. There are even innovative options out there for those of us looking for vegan leotard options, it's all out there!

But enough about my time travel wardrobe - Let’s see what else I was able to take in - how could I NOT want to head for a leotard emporium, and as if on cue the smell of ballet tights and leotards just washed over me - oh I was like a moth to a flame...or should I say a ballerina to a shop?

I took my usual route (following my senses!), I wandered towards the centre of this incredible new futuristic town. In the shopping centre I saw a vast, multi-story retail wonderland where leotards and costumes reign supreme. Oh I could've spent all day in there! It was fantastically glamorous, from top-of-the-range leotards in vibrant colors, textures and patterns you simply wouldn't believe - you must see this in the year 2042, It is simply unbelievable. It was my dream world!

Here, they have so much - the selection was huge - in fact a real dancer's heaven. They were offering the best leotards on the planet! I couldn’t leave without getting my hands on a leotard for myself, however after trying on dozens and dozens of leotards, I knew exactly which leotard was calling to me - one I couldn’t resist...

Look at it. Isn't it just beautiful? What could be more elegant than silver for ballet? Oh yes it was truly gorgeous and it fits beautifully - and best of all, it was sparkly! Now I have two pink leotards and one silver! Not a bad month of shopping, at all. I wonder what the shops of 2043 will hold for me? Oh my! I’m just full of excitement already.

The wonderful people I met in the city, all dressed in beautiful colourful costumes - they gave me some insight into their amazing new world where the past had combined with modern designs for some pretty fantastic outcomes! (Yes you guessed it – a lot of my designs actually took off back in the future) I loved how the women there mixed their everyday clothes with these new colourful leotard styles - just fantastic for taking ballet on to the streets of 2042!

And don't even get me started on the shoes - shoes that light up? It really was the time of the future and this was fashion like I’d never imagined before! It was so fun to witness these vibrant shades and how fashion-conscious they all were, I mean that’s just what we all want, right? To see beautiful ballet styles on display in public! What a day to explore ballet’s incredible new journey !

The 2042 ladies had such confidence - that’s one thing we all should take a tip from – in their fabulous looks and the outfits they chose to make them feel strong and empowered! And when I say strong – think fabulously vibrant and daring! You would love them – it would give you the energy of a thousand ballets just watching them.

You may be surprised at just how inspiring it can be to witness an entire town dancing in public! The shops are full of colourful dance leotards in various sizes - and no, you don’t need to be a professional, even beginners can go and learn! Even if you have never seen a ballet performance you would love the leotard world. Every style you can imagine was on offer in shops - I have never been in shops quite like it! And not just on the streets of 2042 - they told me that this passion had spread everywhere, even on the silver screens of this new world - just picture your leotards and dancing costumes on the movie screen, yes, this had already happened by this date - you can even dance your heart out whilst watching these movies! Oh and yes there were some exciting movie premiers of 2042! Oh my gosh!

Did you see the premier of “Stars of the Milky Way” ? The costumes were to die for! They featured leotard and costume designs which combined an intergalactic design theme - I felt I was on Mars right there in the movie theatre. I even took a few snaps on my sparkly holographic camera – I promise to put them up online when my internet connection stabilizes again (I’m writing this blog from my little corner in my time machine - a comfy vintage chaise longue, surrounded by stacks of vintage ballet books. But we have so many lovely new shops with books galore on 2042! Oh my, they all are really very beautifully printed.

Just as I began thinking I was already tired and ready for bed. Another beautiful design of 2042 – an illuminated pink leotard in the ballet shop – literally caught my eye - it was even prettier than any I’d ever seen before. They all had new design technology and glowing elements that are activated with each graceful movement - just magical. It was like a new age in leotard designs - you are absolutely going to adore the glowing patterns on the future of dance – I’ll tell you all about this new era soon! Just watch this space, this is going to be big. And the dance scenes, oh yes - we love ballet right? – They’ve got an amazing new 3D projection system that shows dance steps with total realism – oh yes, there’s a new way of doing dance - it makes you want to grab a tutu, put it on and get into character and dance! Oh just you wait until I get back to my little corner of Derbyshire with all my stories - but back to what I was saying….

They’ve already started a brand new fashion trend - “Dance Fashion” which involves everyday fashion blended with ballet outfits! Can you even imagine? In fact this has really caught on - there's nothing they don’t sell. A new twist to all the classical looks - I saw a little ballerina in a pair of jeans - a new kind of dancer for this new decade – it seems these modern dancers, they wear their skirts with their leggings, some ballet and some gym and dance all blended into one. They say all the great artists take a new view on everything and the way they do things and fashion is their artwork in this wonderful year. And so, they do their best, the 2042ers and they look brilliant in doing so. But, hey don’t we all? The shops had everything from elegant tutus, fantastic modern ballet dresses, leotards of all colours imaginable - even some fantastic tights! And the colour of all colours (Yes my favourite) Pink, with sparkling, glittering material - it’s the latest big ballet trend.

They also have the latest footwear – it was just incredible! So many colours, with a high level of support - for those tricky pirouettes - these futuristic shoes could have come straight out of a fairy-tale and yes this footwear makes me dance even more. But they all said to me, just like all my readers - that I’d have loved to go on tour with them - and, yes, of course, this would’ve been just fab!

However, as the last day dawned, I headed for the local show "Time Travelers" as it was my last night in 2042 - the performance had modern ballet techniques with dance in various settings - yes they all blended street performance with professional moves, but you had to be there - I mean if you’d have seen it you would have just fallen in love with their performance! So powerful! A real celebration of ballet and an incredibly moving spectacle, this performance made you think “it’s more than ballet!” – it was art on the streets - with all their amazing outfits! I couldn’t miss it! (I just love seeing street ballet mixed with theatre shows!)

The last night of my visit came with a pang of sadness as I knew it was time for me to say farewell to this extraordinary city. It seemed so very much like my own world and yet there was so much more I would like to explore. A promise of great days and nights filled with dancing, more outfits, more shops and even more exciting new performances – I could almost feel that the amazing 2042 ladies would give me a wonderful big pink tutu surprise.

As usual, I packed my bags, said goodbye to my new dance friends, and made my way back to my pink time machine (my sparkly leotard in tow, of course!) Ready to go to a new era - and this was one special trip! What's going to be on the horizon next? This journey through history really gives you a chance to dance, travel, shop - everything I love.
