This month, I decided to dip my toes – well, my ballet shoes! – into the fascinating history of ballet in the 18th century. And let me tell you, those historical dance classes weren't as glamorous as we might imagine. Imagine, for instance, the rather heavy and restrictive costumes they wore – very much a contrast to the flowing elegance we're used to!
Picture this: I'm waltzing my way through the bustling streets of 1780s London, dressed in a powder pink silk leotard with my iconic, frothy tulle tutu. And then BAM! I arrive at a dimly lit ballroom.
It’s an aristocratic affair. There are powdered wigs, frills, and the odd fainting fit – just like the Jane Austen novels, you know! And there I was, amidst the elegant chaos, showing off the latest tutu design to a bewildered, yet slightly captivated crowd. The women, initially shocked, warmed up to my fashion choices. They adored the shimmering silk of my leotard, and, dare I say it, a few even felt inspired by my confidence to embrace some blush-toned tulle skirts!
