It's much more than that – it's a powerful symbol of movement, creativity, and – if I do say so myself - serious style! So, let’s delve into this world, shall we?
Fashion Flashback: 2045
And here we are in the year 2045! What a time to be alive, and in leotard history, too! Remember my previous posts on how we all thought a fashion for the 21st century was all about robots? The whole sci-fi space age thing was all the rage for about ten years, but what goes around, comes around. The year 2045 marks a beautiful shift. It’s an age of sleekness, femininity, and a very definite move towards comfort. Imagine if 80s fashion got all glitzy with the technological know-how of the 2020s? Yes, darling. It's almost glam-punk! Think vibrant colours, shimmery textures, futuristic silhouettes and a complete disregard for boring norms.
My word, you wouldn't believe the array of leotard styles in this time period. There are the standard body-fitting, full-coverage leotards, but the exciting changes come with new leotard fabrics.
You’ve all been thinking about eco-friendly clothes haven’t you? The year 2045 sees recycled fabrics take the centre stage. Recycled plastic is made into leotards and even these leotards, come with the usual glitz. Glittering microfibres are spun from the old bottles, so we get iridescent textures and sparkly accents on our leotards. But there's a definite retro-vintage vibe happening! I’m so excited to say 2045 has become a mecca of street fashion in leotards and a major fashion icon is paving the way: A beautiful and sassy dancer and fashion blogger who lives in New York and is all about comfort, functionality, and a splash of drama in everyday life – imagine a leotard with all kinds of adjustable straps and detachable pieces, think modular leotards which are adaptable and comfy, a perfect balance of style and flexibility, allowing you to morph the look as the day unfolds.
This dancer and fashion blogger has a fantastic eye for leotard style, she dresses them up with jeans, skirts, pants and trousers, she even wears them under sweaters for added movement and sass. Yes, from ancient times when our forebears first discovered the importance of comfort and movement – all the way to this fabulous future – the leotard is one piece of clothing that keeps finding a way to surprise and delight us.
