Hello darlings!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! Itās Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of my planetary escapades. As always, I'm so excited to share with you the latest from my travels, my tutu discoveries, and my fashion musings. Buckle up, because this weekās journey takes us all the way to⦠drumroll⦠Planet Earth!
I know, I know, a bit of a homecoming for you lot. But I havenāt actually been back to good old Earth for ages! I needed to see what's new in the fashion world, do some research on the history of tutus (Iām hoping to start a new tutu collection for the intergalactic dance tour⦠stay tuned!), and of course, see a show.
A Right Proper Home-Cominā
Being back on Earth is always a bit surreal. Even though it's my home planet, it seems to feel like another world, you know? The air is different, the smells are different. Everything seems soā¦well, grounded! I canāt say I miss the feeling of having your feet firmly planted on the ground - but let's be honest, those high heels do need a rest now and again, eh? It's all a matter of balance, literally and metaphorically!
The Home of Tutu History
This time around, I was headed straight for the Victoria and Albert Museum. This place is like a fashion historian's heaven! I spent hours upon hours just browsing through their ballet collection, admiring those stunning tutus. I learned so much about the origins of the tutu. Who knew the little blighters had such a rich history? They actually were not even around until the 19th Century! I always had these visions of graceful ballerinas with flowing skirts, prancing around in 16th-century court, and I justā¦never asked myself what they actually wore! Oh, darling, donāt be daft like me, do your research!
I loved seeing the progression of tutu design over the centuries. And, for once, I was able to resist the temptation to pick up a few goodies to add to my own collection. Oh dear, how do you even describe this kind of willpower? I shall never know!
A Night at the Royal Opera House
Being back on earth, I just had to have a bit of a dance myself, you know? So I found myself down at the Royal Opera House for a delightful performance of Swan Lake. Now, I know what you are thinking: Emma, you've seen it a million times before, whatās all the fuss about? Well, darling, there's nothing quite like experiencing that timeless classic under the dazzling chandeliers of Covent Garden. The costumes were sublime! Thereās just something about the beauty of a white swan tutu against the darkness of the stage, that just leaves me utterly mesmerised! And, I got to eat one of their fantastic little opera ice creams while I watched. I always buy one extra so I can savour that after taste! (I do save them for last though, because what could ever compete with the sheer luxury of the aftertaste of good ballet⦠just ask the audience after a phenomenal performance).
From Royal Opera to London Shopping Spree!
Whatās a trip back to earth without a shopping spree? I love nothing more than wandering through the shops and markets, looking for hidden fashion gems. London is like a treasure trove when it comes to fabulous, stylish threads! You know I just had to do a little detour around Harrods - I am never too far away from a sparkly piece. Then off to Dover Street Market for that more grungy aesthetic. And, as you all know, nothing beats a vintage haul from Portobello Road!
I even managed to grab some fab tutus at Liberty's, perfect for my next intergalactic ballet tour. It's always a must-visit on every trip back to London. I know, darling, the colour is everywhere I go! It's simply the colour of my soul! They call it āpink powerā. And it seems that every now and again, thereās a wave of that on earth too. I donāt even need to travel anywhere - they just seem to do it themselves!
But Now, Back To My Adventures In Outer Space
Sadly, even my time on Earth had to come to an end. And so, it was off to the spaceship for me, back into the depths of space. (I love a bit of deep space. Just try saying it out loud! Sounds luxurious, doesn't it? Just imagine what itās like out there.)
*You Will Never Guess Who Came To Visit⦠*
And wouldnāt you know it? I actually had a little visitor when I boarded! It was the most stylishly dressed, pink tutu wearing alien I have ever seen. They said their name was āLuminousā. Iāve always thought pink would be great for the evening wear in the universe⦠and here was proof! I even bought Luminous a gift at the little shop at Heathrow. I knew a new space ballet friend was on the horizon! What better gift than a little ballet shoes giftset? Even better that it was all in shades of pink and fuchsia, to match my friend's very sophisticated ensemble! That colour is taking the universe by storm!
*On a mission to spread a bit of pink sparkle wherever I go. And you know, maybe Iām winning... even the aliens love it! *
Until next week, my loves.
Keep shining bright!
**Love, Emma
xx**
P.S. It's the 19th of July, 1995. Here on Earth, people are still rocking out to the Spice Girls (I'm obsessed! Maybe I can get them to do a guest appearance in one of my shows... ), "Clueless" just premiered, and the internet is exploding with new potential. It's an exciting time to be alive, and I canāt wait to see what this world gets up to next!
P.P.S. Check out the www.pink-tutu.com website for updates and news.
P.P.P.S Donāt forget: If you're inspired by the stories from Pink Tutu World, remember the best way to find yourself a fantastic tutu? The theatre! Thatās where all those great designers come up with their masterpiecesā¦and where you can experience some truly spectacular productions, no matter what planet you live on!
Have fun this week darlings, and don't forget to dance!
