Pink Tutu World: #94 - Ballet on Planet Earth - 1997-02-12

Oh darling, what a week! Can you believe it's already February? This time last year I was in the middle of rehearsing for "The Nutcracker" with the Moscow State Ballet. That was quite the adventure, let me tell you! They're actually quite traditional there, they really do keep their toes pointed for every single step - you'd think they'd let their hair down a little bit after all these years - But hey! More power to them. I can definitely see how this commitment to perfection helped make Russian ballet what it is today. I think we could all learn a thing or two from them.

Anyway, today's blog is a little different. I'm not going to lie, darling, this whole "travelling the universe" thing has gotten a bit tiring. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely amazing - seeing all these different planets, meeting fascinating people, discovering new fashion trends. But let's just say that getting from one place to another in a spaceship can sometimes feel like an eternity. You can only watch so many intergalactic documentaries before it starts to get repetitive.

So, today I'm going to focus on something a little closer to home - my home here on dear old Planet Earth! Yes, that's right, I'm going to give you a little taste of what I call Pink Tutu Life: Earth Edition. Let me tell you, it's a treat!

Because honestly, if you haven't tried it, a spot of traditional earth ballet is a must! It's simply divine! The history, the tradition, the exquisite artistry! I've always said, even a spacefaring, interstellar tutu wearer like myself never forgets their roots.

Today marks a particularly significant date - February 12th, 1997, a day I was lucky enough to spend in the most charming of locations. That's right, I found myself in the very heart of Derbyshire, England. (Now, you know you've landed in a truly magical place when you hear Derbyshire. The air seems to crackle with stories. A true fairy tale.) You'll be hearing more about this little pocket of wonder in the next few posts, darling.

Let's talk about a delightful discovery: There was a delightful performance at The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden - now you know that's a bit of history! It felt like stepping into a masterpiece, complete with the perfect blend of grandeur and elegance.

As for the show itself, oh honey! It was an enchanting whirlwind of emotion, beauty, and passion. They were performing "Romeo and Juliet," and quelle surprise it was absolutely spectacular! The choreography was like a whisper of poetry and the emotions poured out like a tidal wave. The passion of the love story was almost palpable! I really felt for Romeo and Juliet as they found themselves caught up in the tangled webs of family drama. (Let's just say their families were not at all on board with their love). You could tell it took so much dedication, hard work, and artistic genius to pull it all off!

It made me want to dance my little tutu right onto that stage and sweep Romeo off his feet - what's a girl to do, right? A pink tutu can't resist a swoon-worthy love story, can she? But darling, I've got to tell you, those dancers gave such convincing performances. They absolutely nailed it!

Of course, it wasn't all ballet and fancy steps. A bit of shopping therapy was essential. I have to say, London didn't disappoint, I just fell in love with the clothes on display. Imagine my delight when I stumbled across the most gorgeous, *deep, rich pink *evening dress, like it was made for the stars. It just screamed "Pink Tutu!" to me! I couldn't leave without it. It would look positively divine at the next intergalactic gala. You've simply got to have a good dose of shimmer and shine when you're bouncing around in space.

The entire city was abuzz with life, laughter, and creativity, just like me, darling! Everywhere I went, people seemed to have a genuine passion for art and beauty. And you know what? It was contagious. And they're still waiting to hear about my favourite new discovery. It's a store in Soho called The Ballet Boutique. This place was a total dream come true! It was crammed to the rafters with everything a tutu-loving, ballerina-heart could possibly want! I discovered vintage dance costumes - oh, my, oh, my! - the intricate detailing, the vibrant colors! I could have easily spent all day browsing, if I didn't have a schedule. But who could resist a peek at a new, hand-crafted tutu? That's one pink tutu I could not resist! It just shimmered and twinkled. A total knockout! I'll be posting more pics from my "Derbyshire Trip" and this shop next week! It’s enough to inspire a ballet enthusiast! I am absolutely besotted. I could have just stayed there, living out a dream, forever! It just gave me all the feels, the joy, and happiness I've always dreamed of. It was simply too perfect, it felt unreal! But honestly darling, the magic and the stories really did flow out of this special shop. It’s definitely going on my 'Must Visit' list if I'm ever back on planet earth again.

But even for a celestial ballerina, it's always lovely to return to your roots! This trip back to Planet Earth really helped ground me in what is truly important to me. And, darling, you know what? I still get butterflies in my tummy every time I strap on my pink tutu - you can’t fight the pull of this gorgeous creation, no matter how many adventures you’ve been on. It’s just part of who I am, you see! I even found some wonderful vintage finds on my trip – we are talking the absolute best – pink, black, sparkly tutus! Absolutely divine, darling. My dance wardrobe is back to bursting again! And, let's be honest, who can resist a vintage find? The history that swirls around these creations, the craftsmanship, and, oh, the drama! They speak to the ballet dancer in me, you know?

Of course, no visit to planet earth is complete without a bit of exploration! On this visit, I finally took the plunge and decided to make my way to the birthplace of English ballet - the enchanting county of Derbyshire! Oh, you have got to visit this area, darling! There's an energy, a history, a vibrant culture you just won't find anywhere else. It's just magical! They really embrace creativity here - think beautiful landscapes, ancient castles, and villages tucked away in the hills, with a truly unique blend of heritage and creativity - perfect for an ambitious pink tutu blogger like myself! The locals told me about some fascinating local stories, all brimming with magic and enchantment. Apparently there are legends of fairies dancing beneath the moonlit sky.

The place where ballet really came to life. And believe me, darling, there’s still a bit of magic to be found here – and I love to weave myself into stories. You see, when I discovered a shop selling exquisite costumes that reminded me of those I'd found in that enchanting Parisian boutique - what a stroke of fate, I knew this beautiful area had something magical, something extraordinary in store! I feel a connection here. Maybe that’s the influence of the dance stories that drift along the winds from the peaks of Derbyshire to every corner of this enchanting land. Whatever the reason, darling, it made my journey back to Earth so special.

Now, you might be wondering why I've been doing so much ballet-ing and so little universe hopping lately? Well, you’ll be thrilled to know my next adventure begins soon - I've got to make the most of it while I can, while I'm back on planet earth! You know how much I adore Broadway, the ultimate destination for every performing arts lover on Earth!

I’ve been dreaming of stepping into The Metropolitan Opera House in New York - that incredible building has just called to me, ever since I learned that ballet has played such a major role in Broadway’s rich history. I simply must see it for myself. You see, dancing across those iconic stages in a sparkling tutu? I can already feel the buzz and the thrill. Darling, the time is just right, I am bursting with so many plans and ideas – it’s so thrilling. I am absolutely bursting to dance, to share it with the world. It will be the most dazzling, a pink tutu celebration like none the world has seen!

Remember, darling, when I started this journey? My goal has always been to encourage people everywhere to embrace the pink tutu - a symbol of fun, confidence, and artistic expression. I just want to get everyone, everywhere - no matter what their age, where they live, or how they look - rocking that Pink Tutu life! It's all about having the confidence to shine! I've got this little thing – a plan – to take my message on a massive intergalactic, world tour! Just imagine all the amazing experiences, the fabulous costumes! And, darling, it’s a big mission but one I am confident will bring a lot of joy, laughter and sparkle to the whole universe - just like my love of pink tutus has brought such joy, sparkle and fabulousness to my life!

It’s what we're all here for.

Now, darlings, as usual, if you’re planning on going out to see a ballet, a musical or just having a lovely time in a theatre in the coming week, why not rock your pink tutu and send me pics? I am always loving a spot of tutu inspiration and fashion - especially pink! You know what they say, "pink is the colour of joy!" So, I'm off to pack my bag and plan some exciting adventures on this journey, darling, I'll be back with some extra special travel tips and some photos from a few adventures soon, so check back with me next week!

Lots of pink tutu love and hugs, Emma.
