Hello my gorgeous universe friends! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! It’s Pink Tutu World blog time! I’m absolutely bubbling over with excitement, darling, because this week, I'm taking you back in time! Buckle up your tutus, babes, because today, we're diving into a vintage voyage – right back to Earth, 1997!
Can you imagine? The world was a whole different place then, without my fabulous pink tutus being seen in every corner! So many exciting moments in history were taking place. You probably know them, and they are definitely going to be a part of this blog, because...well, tutus have their place in every moment in history!
I've always loved the 90s vibe! That amazing time of baggy jeans, boybands and, most importantly for a tutu lover, all those incredible ballets! It was a real golden era for the art form.
So let's start at the beginning, shall we?
How I Got To Earth In The First Place
Right, so I was off on tour on the Moon last week (my new sparkly pink tutu collection was absolutely divine, and they went down a storm at the lunar lunar ballroom! 🤭). But this time, Earth beckoned! You see, the amazing Ballet Theatre in London was celebrating their anniversary with a stunning performance of Swan Lake!
You know, the earthlings are still just starting to understand how a girl from Derby can get around the cosmos in her spaceship, the "Pink Dream". There is much suspicion about this! Especially if I arrive for the finale, on stage, as a shimmering pink flamingo. 🦢 I think I might have even spotted the Queen there - bless her - she has very strong opinions on pink tutus. So, how did I get to London on June 11th 1997? Well, my "Pink Dream" is, well... a bit magical really! All my ballet training means I have a fantastic level of spatial awareness and, dare I say it, telekinesis, so...well, one thing leads to another, and I just poof there! Like magic! ✨ I landed right in Covent Garden, feeling all glammed up, and of course, in a fabulous pink tulle number, and made a beeline to the theatre. (The fashion! In the early nineties, Earth seemed to have taken to wearing leggings a lot. Quite exciting really.)
A Fabulous Ballet and Fashion!
I can still remember the energy in that theatre as I settled into my seat. It was incredible! Everyone was absolutely buzzing. And let me tell you, when the music began and those ballerinas glided across the stage, the audience went wild. I absolutely felt my heart flutter watching those dancers work their magic. Their stories and elegance simply took my breath away! That perfect combination of graceful movement, dazzling costumes, and incredible music just blew me away.
And let’s be honest, the tutus! The Swan Lake tutus are so classically stunning. Pure perfection! I mean, the elegance of those swans - a true testament to the power of tutu-tastic elegance. The way they moved, so gracefully, with just a hint of flutter, and that pure, simple yet so sophisticated design… it was pure beauty! A real masterpiece.
After the ballet, I was on a mission to get my hands on some amazing new additions to my collection of ballet clothes. You see, dear readers, I never leave the planet without making a purchase - it is vital to always buy something new! And to be honest, shopping in 1997 was fun. Remember those gorgeous leather jackets everyone was wearing? A classic, really, don't you think? I got myself a pink leather jacket - and guess what - I've kept it! Oh and I treated myself to a fantastic silk dress in a delicious lilac hue (they really nailed lilac and purple in 1997! Honestly - why does fashion move on? ), perfect for waltzing around in and creating more ballerina memories.
Pink Tutu Power In 1997
Okay, now I’ve given you some hints at the historical events in 1997...but it’s time to think a little differently.
Think pink tutus! What could we have been up to in the 1990s, spreading the word? The idea that, across all these years, pink tutus were having a profound effect, even without us being physically present on Earth! 🤔
This might surprise you, dear readers, but on this date in 1997...
1) ... The Tutu Collective, a wonderful group of young dancers, was founded in Chicago.
2) ... An amazing dancer, Natalie Portman, made her stage debut - wearing a tutu of course. It had pink in it.
3) ... I suspect this must have happened but I cannot find any confirmation - it is definitely time I paid the library a visit - but on June 11th 1997 the Pink Tutus started being manufactured in Derbyshire, my home county! What a day that must have been. The magic had already been happening!
So you see, those little pink tutus have been quietly impacting the world, helping it embrace the joy, elegance, and creativity that the dance embodies.
Stay Tutu-ful, Earthlings!
Remember, my loves, the pink tutu message isn’t just about fashion, although the fashion part is absolutely amazing. It's about the spirit of dance and its magical ability to make us feel good and inspire joy in our lives. And there is simply no better way to achieve this, darling, than with the help of a dazzling pink tutu! 💖
Keep those twirling spirits up, and I’ll catch you all next week!
Love,
Emma 🩰💖
