Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad cosmic ballerina, Emma, back with another instalment of Pink Tutu World, straight from Planet Earth! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for our weekly catch-up. As always, I'm absolutely thrilled to have you joining me for another celestial adventure!
Today, I want to share some of my recent exploits here on Planet Earth. It’s been a whirlwind, full of fabulous finds, unforgettable experiences, and the kind of ballet magic that truly warms the soul.
Let me start by setting the scene: We’re on June 25th, 1997. You can almost feel the excitement buzzing through the air! This date, my dears, is special. Not only is it the day after my birthday - you didn’t think I’d miss a chance to mention that, did you? - but it's also the day of a magnificent performance of "Swan Lake" at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. It was utterly divine. The delicate grace of the swans, the poignant drama, and of course, those exquisite tutus - oh, how my heart fluttered! It’s the kind of ballet performance you remember forever.
As always, I made a point of being in the audience. It’s my duty, my dear readers, to keep up to date on all things ballet and report back to you with the freshest, most fabulous insights! It's such a treat to soak in the beauty of classical ballet, and to see all those tutus swishing around on the stage! Don't get me wrong, I love ballet on the street, I adore a fabulous tutu moment at the theatre, and ballet in its traditional home will always have a special place in my heart.
But of course, my time here on Earth was not solely dedicated to ballet! What is a trip to planet Earth without a little retail therapy, wouldn't you say? After all, a pink-tutu-wearing ballerina can never have too many tutus, and there's a lot of gorgeous shopping to be done in this wonderful city of London.
Just across the Thames from the Royal Opera House lies a street where one can truly lose oneself in a world of designer wonders – a true heaven for lovers of couture and vintage finds! It's a place I have to explore every time I’m here – Bond Street. And yes, I know this means venturing away from the ballet world for a while, but a girl has to balance out her life, doesn’t she? And, frankly, ballet-related fashion finds are just as important as any others. And that means exploring a multitude of fashion houses, darling. Don't think I left the shopping just to fashion – it was an opportunity to treat myself to a decadent English high tea in a lovely little tea room tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street. You can imagine, my favourite colour is pink, so when I spied a pink teapot in the window, I had to investigate! A scone with cream and jam, the finest Earl Grey tea, it truly made the day complete.
Now, let's chat a bit about space travel and spaceship adventures. Because let's face it, what’s a Pink Tutu World blog post without some space-related musing? My trusty spaceship, which I named ‘The Tutu’ (of course), is my portal to the most amazing places. I am fortunate to travel by spaceship to many parts of the universe. The journey was a bit longer this time since Earth isn’t a traditional space-faring planet and we’re always encouraged to travel safely by warp speed and I'm all for safety, as my grandmother used to say! The galactic stars looked positively magical against the blackness of space.
Of course, there are always stories of interstellar travel, from one-time space-voyagers, to those who claim they saw UFOs (although I’m not sure I believe those stories entirely…wink), but I've found no shortage of amazing new places for the true pink tutu-wearing adventurer! For the record, if anyone finds evidence of any UFOs - particularly any that are also pink and adorned with tutus, I'd love to get in touch with them!
But here I am, back in my little corner of the universe on Planet Earth - surrounded by the sights, sounds, and most importantly, the fabulous ballet of this beautiful planet! And yes, the latest in my ballet history studies and tutu history collection came up again.
I find ballet so captivating, and exploring its fascinating history keeps me absolutely entranced. I recently discovered a treasure trove of vintage ballet photographs at the British Library, depicting ballerinas from bygone eras, their tutus a symphony of elegance and artistry. I find it particularly enchanting to imagine the world they lived in - to contemplate the dancers and the choreographers of past centuries and wonder what their experiences and stories might have been. And, I can't help but think what it might be like if they got the chance to travel into the depths of space as I do. Would they ever dream that we would one day be able to go on such spectacular adventures in space?
After spending a couple of glorious weeks on Planet Earth, I’m preparing for my return journey, back to the endless expanses of the cosmos. It's not a simple decision – leaving this extraordinary place, with its charming atmosphere, vibrant culture and endless sources of fashion inspiration always makes me feel a little wistful. But with the promise of a grand celestial ball to attend, and so many new galaxies to explore, the thought of leaving Earth's gravity is exciting, especially when you’re adorned in a pink tutu and heading towards the endless unknown! As much as I adore planet Earth, I do, after all, love the starry night sky even more! And those endless cosmic vistas just have a magnetism that draws me closer.
In the meantime, do join me on Pink-Tutu.com for next week’s post, where we’ll delve further into a very special topic on tutus – let’s just say that we’re going on a historical voyage with an actual ballerina and there will be much fun and discovery to be had. Be sure to join me – we'll be talking about more than just tutus! But if we don’t have a little talk about tutus at some point, well, you just know something’s gone horribly wrong in the universe. We need those pink tutus for universal balance.
Until next week, my lovelies, remember: "Be fierce. Be fab. And don’t forget to wear pink!" And please, keep spreading those pink tutus across the cosmos – we need all the fabulous pink power we can get!
Your cosmic ballerina, Emma x
