Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #116

Hello darlings!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! It's Wednesday, the day for my weekly update from planet Earth. This week, my lovelies, has been absolutely bonkers! From the cosmic glitter of an intergalactic ballet performance to a tutu-tastic shopping spree, I've crammed more excitement into seven days than a ballet shoe can fit in a pointe box!

Let's start with the grand, celestial affair, shall we?

On July 16th, we embarked on a journey unlike any other. My trusty spaceship, affectionately named 'The Sugar Plum,' zoomed me right out of the Earth's atmosphere and into the shimmering cosmos! Our destination? An enchanting ballet spectacle staged right on the ring system of Saturn. Imagine a magnificent ballet company, floating among Saturn's celestial rings, their tulle skirts billowing like gossamer clouds, illuminated by the dazzling rays of a distant sun! It was absolutely divine!

The program? A celestial spin on "Swan Lake." But this was no ordinary "Swan Lake." Imagine delicate, iridescent costumes with accents of shimmering opal and pearls, dancers gracefully twirling and pirouetteing through an ethereal setting, and the most magical, otherworldly music! I felt like I'd been transported into a painting by Botticelli!

The performers, hailing from the galaxy Andromeda, were absolutely spellbinding! They moved with such elegance, their bodies echoing the fluidity of space itself. I could almost hear them whispering the secrets of the cosmos through their movements. Even I couldn't resist the call of the celestial stage - after a quick costume change, I found myself in a shimmery, galactic-pink tutu (custom-made, of course!), performing alongside them. I’m convinced we put on a performance fit for the gods!

Of course, any good trip demands a bit of shopping. And on this one, my dears, I certainly did not disappoint! After landing back on planet Earth, I hotfooted it to the Derbyshire Craft Centre for some absolutely heavenly shopping! There were racks of delightful pink silk and lace, perfect for my future tutu designs! I envisioned intricate embroidery, hand-beaded embellishments and vibrant pink hues that would set my upcoming creations alight! I practically squealed with joy - who wouldn’t when they’re surrounded by fabrics as delicious as these?

Speaking of delightful things, I can't neglect to mention the show I saw on Saturday night at The Theatre Royal in Nottingham. My fellow ballet lover, the adorable Peter, suggested we head to see a performance of “The Nutcracker” by The Royal Ballet – an experience, my darlings, that quite frankly stole my heart! We were in the Royal Circle and, oh my goodness, the detail! The scenery was breathtaking, with snowflakes glistening like a winter wonderland, the Nutcracker's suit as if spun from dreams and Tchaikovsky's music truly divine!

But of course, no Pink Tutu World blog would be complete without a spot of fashion chat. I have to confess I've fallen head over heels for a new ballet shoe trend: the pink satin slipper with an intricately woven pink and silver floral design. I paired it with a billowing pink tulle skirt and a silver diamante headband - and darling, the look was absolutely fabulous!

If you’re a fashion fan and love dancing around in beautiful costumes, head on over to my website - www.pink-tutu.com - where I post a new blog every Wednesday.

Until next week, darlings, keep twirling and keep sparkling!

With Love and Pink,

Emma

Pink Tutu World - The Universe, Through a Tutu Lens

But my journey with pink tutus goes beyond a blog post and a sparkly spaceship. I want to spread the joy of ballet and the loveliness of the color pink across the entire universe! It's my life's mission.

Every performance I put on, every stitch I sew on my gorgeous tutus, every word I write here on my blog... it all fuels my passion.

For you see, darlings, I believe the power of a pink tutu is immeasurable. It whispers promises of joy and confidence. It's a visual invitation to tap into your inner ballerina, your own unique blend of grace and playfulness.

I believe a pink tutu can unite us. It's the perfect visual reminder of all the beautiful things in our lives, all the moments we want to remember. A pink tutu can be worn for the mundane, it can be worn to celebrate - it's simply an opportunity to add a dash of colour to any day, anywhere in the universe.

Pink Tutu World - Back in Time:

Today I’d like to indulge my love of all things history - let's dive into the delightful world of the tutu's origins!

This delicate, enchanting piece of clothing has evolved over time, its history just as intricate as its stitches.

  • The tutu's ancestors:

Let’s go back to the early 19th century. Before the tutu, ballet dancers were wearing floor-length skirts that were quite simply impractical! Imagine the awkwardness of trying to pirouette with a dress sweeping the floor.

  • Marie Taglioni: The "first" tutu

Then, enter Marie Taglioni, the famous ballet dancer. In the year 1832, Marie created quite a stir with her performance in "La Sylphide." She opted to wear a short, feather-light, billowing skirt. This sparked a revolution in ballet fashion and set the stage for the modern tutu! This version of the skirt allowed for greater movement, freedom and fluidity in the dancing and changed how women performed forever.

  • The Romantic Era

During the Romantic Era (approximately 1830 to 1870), ballerinas performed in delicate white tutus, reminiscent of Greek goddesses, often layered over bloomers or leotards. The tutus were sometimes encrusted with sparkling stones, feathers and flowers. Imagine, a celestial ballet made up of pure dreams!

  • The Classic Tutu

From then, the evolution continued! We started to see a change in styles, moving to the more recognizable “classic tutu” form, where several layers of stiff tulle were stitched together into a cone-like shape. This allowed dancers to achieve those breathtaking high kicks and jumps that we see in ballet performances today.

Pink Tutu World: A Personal Touch

Now, let’s focus on my own love of pink tutus and the impact this delicate garment has had on my life. It’s safe to say I’m obsessed and proud to have dedicated a website, my blog and a large portion of my existence to celebrating them!

Ever since I was a little girl in Derbyshire, I loved ballet. I’d twirl around the house in any kind of dress, my own makeshift version of a tutu, and my dad would laugh and twirl around with me. My dad even brought me to ballet classes, all while humming the music to the classical ballet he loved so much. There was something magical, dreamlike, and oh-so-feminine about it. The tutu felt like my own little safe haven - and it wasn't long before it transformed my entire life.

I have a little closet, my “tutu den”, where I’m surrounded by the finest pink tutus ever crafted. I’ve even tried making some myself - and while I wouldn’t recommend my attempts at the sewing machine, I am always learning!

My tutu journey took me from a little girl dreaming of twirling to being the lead dancer at the Derby Dance Theatre when I was barely twenty-years old! Later, I travelled to Italy to join The Accademia Nazionale di Danza. It’s always a great joy to travel to new countries and be in their ballet companies, to embrace their rich traditions, history and dance style.

But beyond the glitter and grace of ballet performances, it was during my time in Italy that I stumbled upon a shop packed with beautiful, pink lace fabrics. In that moment, I realised my vision: Pink Tutu World, the dream I'd carried within my heart since I was a child would become reality!

My little blog was launched! Then, came the first performance in a bespoke, handmade pink tutu that set hearts ablaze, the opening of the online boutique filled with my latest creations…

Every step I take feels like a dream, each accomplishment a graceful twirl forward. It’s a passion that drives me to fly across the cosmos, bringing with me my own brand of tutu-tastic cheer and magic, ready to share my enthusiasm for pink and ballet with everyone.

*Remember: * Pink Tutues are for everyone. Every single soul in this beautiful universe can rock a tutu! There are infinite ways to make the look work for you!

That's it for now my darlings! Remember, join me again next week for a whole new adventure on Pink Tutu World!

With love and endless sparkles,
Emma
