Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - 1st October 1997 - Post Number 127

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad space explorer, Emma, back with another blog post, fresh from my latest adventure across the cosmic ballet floor. Buckle up your ballet shoes, my dears, as I take you on a dazzling journey to… drum roll…Planet Earth!

Now, don't let the name fool you! While Planet Earth might be considered rather ā€œbasicā€ in some galactic circles, I, for one, find it to be an absolute treasure trove of ballet magic. I mean, it's practically breading with opportunities for a tutu-clad ballerina to revel in the sheer delight of… well, everything! From the cobbled streets of London to the breathtaking scenery of Derbyshire, where I call home, this planet is bursting with inspiration and stunning fashion moments.

This week's journey takes me to a place known as "London". It's a city practically built for ballet – it practically pulsates with an inherent elegance! I’m always looking out for something unique, so for my ballet inspiration today, I’m at the Royal Opera House, just in time for Swan Lake! cue dramatic orchestral flourish

Speaking of Swan Lake, my darlings, have you seen this production? Simply exquisite. Let's be honest, Tchaikovsky really nailed it with that music. Honestly, you couldn’t wish for a more breathtaking soundtrack to this truly spellbinding ballet. This Swan Lake was an absolute dream of beauty! I was swept away, lost in the intricate dance moves, the intricate story, the divine beauty of the Corps de Ballet and, of course, the graceful grace and incredible technique of the principal dancers.

Now, where’s a pink tutu loving ballerina to get a fantastic outfit for a premiere of a performance like this? Well, I’m absolutely loving my pink sequin tulle tutu from Tutuland! Let's be honest, what's a ballerina trip to Planet Earth without a dazzling outfit to go with it, my loves? Of course, this wouldn’t be complete without the perfectly matched pink ballet flats and some stunningly pink jewelry! Now I’m thinking pink rhinestones... or perhaps…

My dear, what do you think? Pink or black diamonds? Let me know in the comments!

Let’s just say the Royal Opera House literally stopped me in my tracks when I saw it. It's a marvel of architecture! Everything from the building’s facade to the plush red velvet interiors is simply glorious! A truly decadent architectural dream come true! Imagine, my loves, performing here! I can almost feel the warmth of the spotlight! Just as I’m dreaming of a show at this legendary venue, I notice a man in a top hat - probably another ballet fan like myself. As I’m taking in the theatre's stunning architecture I overhear him saying, "You can't understand the brilliance of ballet without seeing a show at the Royal Opera House."

The man turns to me with a glint in his eye and says, "Forgive my intrusion, miss. You have a keen eye! You are surely a ballet aficionado, no?"

And that is where things got truly fabulous. We chat, as he explains that this was actually the 25th anniversary of the opera's founding!

It was so much fun getting into the heart of it all, with a real expert like this man! We had such a lovely time discussing everything, from the history of the company’s legendary dancers, right through to the contemporary shows of today. This was truly the start of a magnificent day of discovery.

I think I was in heaven that day, with all that ballet loveliness around me. My eyes were dancing a waltz with the world, I felt every inch the princess. And let's face it, every ballerina princess needs an equally dazzling accessory!

Speaking of which, after a glorious morning spent gazing upon the artistry of Swan Lake, I was definitely ready for some fashion fun, darling! And what better way to end a day like this than with a splurge at a beautiful new boutique! And let me tell you, my loves, "Liberty's" is the quintessential place to do that!

Oh darling, Liberty's has got everything you could ever desire - silk, lace, cashmere, velvet, and satin - it’s an absolute fashion paradise! With everything from stunning gowns to beautifully patterned fabrics to exquisite hats, it truly feels like a time machine transporting you back to an era of pure fashion magic.

Speaking of fashion history, this whole city seems to practically radiate it! I found myself mesmerised by everything, from the Victorian facades to the stunning displays of 18th-century fashion at the Victoria and Albert Museum. There was a certain vintage magic in the air... the romance of an era, when everything was so much grander... I found myself yearning to experience that elegance first hand, darling. Swoon!

However, even amongst the beautiful, swirling history of London's past, it wasn’t hard to see just how alive and dynamic it was in the now. And what better way to experience that dynamic heartbeat than through a Ballet Performance, darling!

That evening I made my way to the Sadler's Wells Theatre to watch "Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake".

I confess to being totally wowed. Let me tell you, Bourne really turned the ballet world on its head with this radical yet undeniably spectacular piece. With male dancers taking on the role of swans, he broke so many of the typical ballet traditions, and yet at the same time… he truly made the story come alive in a breathtaking new way!

That evening, the theatre was completely electric with energy! It truly captured the whole essence of the production's powerful emotional themes. From the striking black and white costume design to the unique ballet moves, it truly took me by storm!

Now, it wasn’t only the dancing that was sensational, my darlings. Let’s just say the costumes for this production were just divine. And when I saw those leotards - well, let’s just say they had everything a ballerina’s heart desires! It was all very, ā€œOoh La Laā€ You're truly meant to be the dancer at the end of the performance in a show like this, because by the end you are completely lost in its drama, its powerful story, its raw passion, its beauty - it is completely breathtaking and so emotional. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever been so moved by ballet before in my life!

However, dear readers, you might have noticed that I wasn’t wearing my signature pink tutu that day, but it was a rare occurrence. Even a fashion icon has to dress according to the venue’s guidelines from time to time! However, rest assured my darlings, the pink tutu is making its grand return for tonight's performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Now, for those who may not be familiar, the Royal Albert Hall is the perfect venue to witness a magical display of the most exciting ballet.

In this case, the evening’s treat was going to be the ever-popular "Royal Ballet"!

The excitement of tonight’s ballet, "The Sleeping Beauty," is positively palpable! And this production has just as many lovely costumes to look out for. I mean, come on - The Sleeping Beauty! What could be more exquisite, right? There’s that dazzling fairy magic, stunning court costumes, beautiful, ornate settings… just simply the best. And tonight's show was fantastic! With so many beautiful outfits, what's a ballerina to do, my dears? It's positively impossible to choose my favourite but let's just say… "Princess Aurora’s" outfits were pretty breathtaking. With the graceful movements of the ballet dancers… and, darlings, we just can’t forget those stunning outfits for the corps de ballet… my dear, you can’t have one without the other, can you? They really are an absolute delight.

Speaking of outfits, my outfit is ready and waiting, too! It’s always a good day when you’re wearing pink, and this pink, sparkly tutu has got to be one of my all-time favorites! My love affair with all things pink is certainly as strong as ever, but for me, a well-placed tutu is truly an investment, darlings. And now it's finally showtime!

For tonight, I have to say that "The Royal Ballet's 'Sleeping Beauty'" was truly an experience… The best type of experience, my darlings… pure magical ballet. I truly felt that princess energy and this evening at the Royal Albert Hall certainly reminded me why we're all such ballet enthusiasts.

Now I’m off, darlings, I’m hoping to share photos of my trip so don’t forget to follow www.pink-tutu.com and catch my next Wednesday's post about the fun and glamorous experiences, and the beauty that planet earth has to offer! It really is a universe to explore - whether you prefer pink tutus or your signature, "I'll-have-what-she's-having", en pointe ballet steps! Catch you on the cosmic ballet floor next week, darlings, and remember… a little pink tutu goes a long way.

Love and pink tutu kisses, Emma
