#PinkTutuWorld Ballet on Planet Earth on 1999-01-06

Post Number 193: Ballet on Planet Earth - January 6th 1999 - My Dream Dress! 💖✨

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma, your resident space-age ballerina, reporting live from Planet Earth, specifically the heart of the fashion world, the glorious city of London! Oh, I have just the most amazing tale to tell you all, packed full of sparkly magic, chic ensembles and, of course, enough tulle to make a tutu enthusiast’s heart soar!

I have a secret to confess: the excitement of a new year always makes me crave adventure. So, imagine my absolute delight when my astro-navigator informed me that a truly remarkable ballet company from a distant planet was about to grace Earth's stages with their dazzling performances!

Let's rewind for a moment, shall we? Last week, after finishing a stunning performance with the Cosmic Ballet Collective (who, if I may say, have the most fabulous spaceship dĂŠcor!), I landed back on Earth, ready to delve into some good old-fashioned human delights - namely a hefty helping of delicious fish and chips and an afternoon spent browsing through the magnificent displays of the Liberty department store.

Speaking of "magnificent displays", let me tell you about the truly wondrous creation I stumbled upon at the Liberty store!

Imagine this: a vibrant shade of pink, more dazzling than the brightest star in the galaxy, shimmering like a thousand sunbeams. This exquisite colour was the very essence of this dress! The fabric, so light and airy it practically flowed like a wisp of cloud, was fashioned into a breathtaking confection of layers and folds. It was everything I had ever dreamt of. The neckline, oh my goodness! So demure, so elegant, it just begged to be adorned with a delicate pearl necklace. The length? Perfectly skimming the floor, a testament to feminine grace. And, of course, no Pink Tutu World post is complete without a mention of the Tutu! A masterpiece, this one! Every frill, every ruffle, every single detail so beautifully crafted. Imagine my delight, you sweet readers, when I realised this dream dress came with a matching Tutu! A glorious explosion of the most divine pink, the very embodiment of graceful beauty and whimsy!

After the longest moment of contemplation ever experienced in my lifetime (yes, even longer than that time I was stuck in the Cosmic Galaxy's Space Traffic Jam!), I decided it was a must-have. Oh, how I gleefully danced through the Liberty aisles, dreaming of all the magnificent ways I could pair this absolute masterpiece!

Fast-forward to a week later and you'll find me back in London, still aglow from the dress’s charm, but this time, I was heading towards a world-renowned ballet theatre with my friends, ready to witness an intergalactic masterpiece on stage!

You see, The Zenithian Ballet Troupe were on Earth, showcasing their most lauded and breathtaking ballet: "Cosmic Flight: A Tale of Dance, Light, and The Everlasting Star". As an intergalactic ballerina myself, I had to see this! Oh, I can hardly even begin to express the magnificence that unfolded before my very eyes!

First came the entrance: the majestic opening moments were truly a sight to behold, like a galaxy in all its radiant glory had come to life! The dancers glided effortlessly across the stage, every move precise and evocative. The way they embodied their characters, bringing both humour and depth to their roles was absolutely enthralling. The choreography was beyond remarkable - a kaleidoscope of emotion and expression woven together by pure talent! But it was their costume designer that stole the show for me! She had clearly grasped the beauty of ethereal grace and truly captured it in fabric. I mean, how wonderful to see something like this on another planet. Oh, you know how much I love seeing ballet at home, so to see the art of ballet take place so beautifully on another planet, well that’s something that will stay with me forever! It was a breathtaking experience!

My absolute favourite moment came in the middle of Act II, where the entire troupe performed an intricate and mesmerising sequence of “Space Dances” – each one showcasing the dancers’ incredible technical skills, but it was the costumes which really elevated this performance to another dimension! Their costumes, so utterly unique with flowing ribbons and shimmering beads – the perfect combination of beauty and grace! Every single step was as perfectly executed as a ballet by the Royal Ballet, and every twist and turn had me entranced, like a little celestial butterfly watching with fascination. I couldn’t believe how much inspiration I took away from the experience, how much inspiration to make my own performances even more unique than they are right now! You will all have to see The Zenithian Ballet Troupe when they next come to your planet. Honestly, even though we are all “intergalactic ballerinas,” this truly did blow me away! And don’t get me started on the beautiful light show, the lighting technician clearly understood the perfect level of light to shine on the amazing movements. A breathtaking display that took my breath away, all done in such exquisite harmony, each dancer contributing to the overall masterpiece. This entire show reminded me once again of why ballet holds such a powerful magic.

And after that unforgettable performance, it was only natural for my dance-obsessed heart to wander towards the delightful world of theatre shopping. The boutiques were simply overflowing with tutus - a delightful cacophony of textures, lengths, and hues! Of course, being the absolute queen of all things tutu (that's my claim to fame, you know!) I made a bee-line for the Pink Tutu section - there it was, just for me, like it was made for my “Planet Earth” show in a few weeks time. An absolutely perfect tutu in a beautiful delicate shade of pale pink, a bit like my dress from Liberty. So you know, as my usual shopping style, I had to have this gorgeous tutu (after all, how can a Pink Tutu World princess be caught dead without one!), the one that looked like a fairytale princess waiting for her grand finale dance! A truly exquisite addition to my dance collection! You see my dears, ballet and its history is my life's passion and this beautiful tutu was made to twirl. I cannot wait to wear it on stage!

So, dear readers, as the year gets into full swing, remember to live each day with a sprinkle of magic, a twirl of elegance and always, always, have a tutu close at hand for impromptu moments of wonder. This week I’ve certainly got plenty of wonder in my life, that much is for sure. I shall be getting a new space ship to take me around the universe, for all the dance competitions happening on other planets! That means, of course, getting a whole wardrobe of new tutus!

Don’t forget to check back next Wednesday for another Pink Tutu blog post! In the meantime, happy dancing and twirling,

Your Emma 💖✨

P.S. The Cosmic Ballet Collective and The Zenithian Ballet Troupe are my new best friends! We have planned a joint gala, where all of us dancers and troupes can show each other what we can do! There are loads of other amazing performances by international dancers lined up all year, if you want to see your favorite planet on the show! It is sure to be an evening to remember – with a fabulous blend of interstellar artistry! I’m even planning to invite some fellow dancers from the other planet to perform on stage! Who wouldn’t want a tutu clad dancing spectacle for their first event of the year?
