Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #208 - 21st April 1999

Hello, darlings!

It's your favourite tutu-tastic traveller, Emma, here, bringing you another stellar dose of cosmic fashion from right here on Planet Earth! This week, we're staying right here in my earthly abode, because let's face it, even a spacefaring pink tutu princess needs a little downtime every now and then. Plus, with the abundance of theatrical delights happening this week, there's absolutely no need to leave!

I am absolutely overflowing with excitement for all things ballet right now! You know me, a ballerina without a good show to see is like a swan without a lake – utterly incomplete! Luckily, I've got the perfect lineup for my ballet-loving heart:

  • The Royal Ballet's performance of Swan Lake! This timeless classic, and a favourite of mine, is sure to be a mesmerising spectacle of elegance, power, and, of course, a stunning display of tulle and feathers!

  • The Sadler's Wells Theatre is hosting a performance of Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, which brings a fresh, contemporary interpretation to the ballet.

  • And lastly, I'm beyond thrilled to catch The Bolshoi Ballet showcasing Giselle, the ethereal romantic story that never fails to stir emotions in my tutu-clad soul!

Of course, no ballet weekend would be complete without some shopping therapy!

A little wander around Covent Garden always fuels my sartorial spirit. The stalls bursting with quirky delights and colourful trinkets are perfect for picking up the perfect accessory to complete my outfit. Imagine this: a dazzling pink feather boa paired with a delicate silver pendant... swoon

Fashion and Ballet: The Perfect Duo

Speaking of fashion, this week I stumbled upon an enchanting exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum exploring the history of the ballet costume! The display showcased a captivating timeline of tulle, tutus, and those magnificent feathered headdresses. Seeing how the designs have evolved over time is like tracing the elegant arc of dance itself!

Speaking of history, I am utterly captivated by the sheer artistry of tutus through the ages. From the romantic and voluminous designs of the 19th century, to the daringly modern pieces we see today, the evolution of the tutu perfectly mirrors the changing dance world itself.

And don't even get me started on those glorious shades of pink that grace so many tutus. I swear, I have a whole cupboard in my Derbyshire cottage dedicated to different hues of pink - each shade representing a different facet of the pink spectrum: blush pink for a sweet and demure performance, flamingo pink for an invigorating burst of colour, and a stunning rose pink to embody the passionate heart of a ballet dancer.

Planet Earth's Ballet-Loving Gems

You might be wondering, darling, what inspires me to keep dancing, even when I'm so far away from my beloved Earth. It's simple! This planet has a heart of gold, especially when it comes to its love for ballet! And seeing the passion for dance here, in all its beauty and raw talent, re-ignites that flame within me every single time!

Here on Planet Earth, we've got the best ballet schools, world-class companies, and countless inspiring ballet stories that fill the pages of our newspapers and magazines. Ballet is woven into the fabric of our society, and for me, that's what makes Earth such a delightful and uplifting place to visit!

And who knows, darling, perhaps someday soon I’ll share the magic of a pink tutu with some lovely new alien friends. Just imagine the galaxy filled with dancers in bright pink tulle. Now wouldn’t that be a vision worth taking a spin for?

Don’t forget to join me on next Wednesday's blog!

We’ll be taking off on another interstellar adventure!

In the meantime, keep on twirling!

Lots of love,

Emma
