Pink Tutu World - Post #247: Intergalactic Ballet Adventures on Planet Earth, 2000-01-19 🩰✨

Hello my lovelies! 💖 Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus reign supreme and glitter is always in season. Today, I'm pulling out all the stops for you, darlings, because I'm positively bursting with excitement about my recent travels, right here on Planet Earth! And oh, what a dazzling day for an intergalactic adventure it was! 😉

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a fresh post from Pink Tutu World, and this week, my blog is brimming with all the fabulous things that filled my day. We're taking a deep dive into the beauty and magic of the ballet world, and, of course, sharing some of my favourite outfit finds along the way!

Back on Planet Earth, With a Twist! 🌎

It might seem strange to be talking about an 'intergalactic' adventure while I'm right here on Planet Earth, but let me explain, sweeties! You see, my dear Mum, who is the most supportive woman I know (apart from, obviously, my beloved Auntie Brenda, but we'll save that for another day), took me on a trip to the Derbyshire County Museum earlier. And wouldn't you know it, they've got an exhibition on the history of the cosmos, full of sparkly displays about planets, nebulas, and black holes! 🌌 It was absolutely dazzling, and just like ballet, full of amazing patterns, swirling shapes, and a touch of mystery. ✨ Of course, my favourite display was about the Andromeda galaxy, just because it reminds me of all the twinkling ballet tutus. (My Mum gave me the biggest smile when I said that. She knows me too well, bless her soul! 😄)

We saw this huge space photograph of swirling colours and nebulae - all a million miles away from the comfy living room of my flat! And you know what? It just made me think... What if we're not alone in the universe, in a ballet sort of way? What if there are beings on other planets, but instead of dancing with tutus, they twirl in cosmic dust, their outfits the swirling nebulae? How magnificent would that be?! 😍 Imagine!

And don't even get me started on the beautiful 'Starlight' dress I saw in the shop after. A stunning, twinkling, celestial-inspired creation with silver stars stitched all over it! It was just begging for a ballerina like me to twirl in. Even if the shopkeeper, Mr. Grimshaw, who always looks a bit grumpy, told me he thought it would look more fitting on a "teenage school girl". Bless his cotton socks, he doesn't understand the power of a good pink tutu!

Mr. Grimshaw wouldn't understand the joy of finding the perfect dress, and then knowing that it’s just waiting for me in my wardrobe back home, ready to become my star on stage when I do my next performance!

Ballet - Always A Touch of Magic ✨

While the universe held all sorts of exciting possibilities for a ballet-loving girl like me, I needed some more earthly inspiration, so my Mum and I made our way to the Derby Theatre for their production of 'Giselle'. This ballet is all about tragic love and a little bit of magical woodland fairies – absolutely perfect for my mood.

Have I ever told you, darlings, how much I adore ballet? From the elegant leaps and twirls to the gorgeous costumes and the emotive storytelling, every detail feels so special and magical. Every ballet, like every planet, holds its own beauty and a story just waiting to unfold. I adore that!

This performance was just phenomenal. It was all the 'magic' of ballet that I'd always loved: the dramatic storyline of a heartbroken ballerina transformed into a woodland fairy, the hauntingly beautiful music, and the amazing artistry of the dancers. Oh my gosh, it was so heart-stopping to watch the dancers soar through the air. It's like ballet is this incredible mixture of theatre and sport, the strength and beauty all rolled into one, and you just can't help but be captivated! I can’t wait until I get the chance to learn Giselle myself, and perhaps even take a whirl at a little bit of fairies, who knows! I will just have to add a little glitter and find the perfect tulle for my fairy wings. That will be fun!

The best part was getting to meet one of the dancers afterwards. He was just so lovely - all charm and twinkle - just like the kind of boy a ballerina could fall head-over-heels in love with! (Unfortunately, my mum kept telling me that I was 'way too young to be thinking about boys,' But honestly, who wouldn't want to dance with a prince?! 😍) And we even had a quick chat about tutu design – you know, sharing tips about the perfect tutu for a Giselle fairy and all that. Talk about a dream come true, my dears! 💕

My Favourite Tutu of the Day! 💖

It was so wonderful to feel all the magic and creativity in the theatre, and I had a grand old time afterwards in the Derby arcades! I picked up the most stunning pale pink tutu! I simply cannot resist a good tutu, and this one had just the perfect shade of pink to match the swirling colours of that nebula I saw at the museum earlier. 🌠 (Now if only the museum could get me one to wear on a 'cosmic dance' on another planet!) I mean, wouldn’t it just be divine to pirouette amidst galaxies, swirling cosmic dust around you, all dressed in a soft, delicate, twinkling tutu! Talk about fashion! Talk about dancing in the stars! You know I'm always looking for ways to get everyone twirling and sparkling, so maybe I should try to design my own line of interstellar tutus? Think of the cosmic sparkle, the swirling nebulas and the elegant cuts that just might capture the whole majesty of the universe! It could be a sensation, like my tutu creations but way out of this world, in the world beyond our own little blue planet! 🪐

So, to summarise: an incredible trip to a galactic-themed museum, a phenomenal ballet performance of ‘Giselle’, and a most amazing find at the arcades. Oh, what a perfect day to celebrate all things tutu, and to remember the magic of ballet and all its cosmic, twinkle-tutu-licious wonder.

This is just another reason why I love Planet Earth! It’s full of so many hidden secrets and amazing treasures that you have to just go out and explore, twirling in your favourite tutu! 😉💖 Remember, darlings, always keep your heart full of the sparkle of dreams, just like the nebula I saw today. And, don't forget: keep those tutus twirling!

Love,

Emma xoxo

Post-Blog Time for Emma’s Fashion Favourites 💅

Okay, darlings! Before I sign off, let’s take a look at all the sparkle and flair that was swirling around my planet Earth trip today. And wouldn't you know it, there's some fabulous inspiration here that’s perfect for my little blog! ✨

First up, we’re going celestial with the ‘Starlight’ dress from Derby’s biggest department store, ‘Debenhams’. Talk about celestial couture! Just picture it with my matching ‘Space Sparkle’ ballet slippers that my best friend Amy sent me last week - what a pairing, you wouldn't believe how those twinkle! 💖 I always say, ‘it’s all about finding your celestial chic’, darling!

Second, this just had to happen to a girl like me. As we were wandering down the Derby streets, I just couldn’t resist a visit to the one shop that gets my heart pumping and my handbag dancing: “Belle Epoque - A Victorian Emporium”. I simply have to make a visit when I'm anywhere near Derby, so I snuck away from my Mum for ten minutes (with her full permission of course - and a £100 limit, lol!) and it just so happened that Belle Epoque had a display of some of the most amazing Victorian dancing tutus - like the ones from a Giselle production from the 1880’s.

Talk about finding a vintage beauty. Honestly, if this isn’t a reminder that fashion can cycle from the cosmos to the world of ballerinas, through time itself and then straight back out again, I don’t know what is! It’s all there in every tutu and ballet, the style from a century or more ago comes right back round to inspire us, a sort of cycle of elegance that has inspired me in ways you could never imagine!

But even if you aren't looking to buy a whole wardrobe, it's all there just for the look, my darlings! As you’ll have seen from my photos, Belle Epoque is chock-full of inspiring pieces, beautiful outfits for a little ballet ball or for adding just that touch of classic ballerina chic. There is something there to suit anyone from a real-life dancer like me to those who have that inner sparkle!

Then we went shopping for shoes - naturally. The most beautiful thing in Derby? The shop ‘Skoosh’. If you’re anything like me, you’ll understand that no tutu is truly complete without the perfect ballet slipper or dancing shoes. And believe me, you have not lived until you have danced in shoes like these. It’s pure delight.

Finally, before you go and get your tutus twirling, have a little look at my Instagram! @EmmaPinkTutu - I just love the new photo my friend Alex took for me in my 'Sky Blue Sky' tutu outside the Derby Theatre this afternoon. He caught the exact pose I wanted. This really captured how I wanted to show all of you, my followers, what was buzzing about Derby. The photo was pure magic and shows the spirit of ‘pink tutus all round’. Let me know what you think. 💕
