Pink Tutu World: Post 252 - Ballet on Planet Earth: A Trip to Remember!

Hello my lovely little tutu-tastic readers! Welcome back to another thrilling episode of Pink Tutu World. Today's post is a special one, because we're bringing it right back to the ol' home turf, Planet Earth! And it's a very special date, because guess what... it's the 23rd February 2000! Oh yes, that iconic date, the start of a new millennium, the rise of the internet... and of course, the perfect date for a Pink Tutu World adventure on Planet Earth.

But before we dive into my exciting journey, let's catch up on some tututivities in the Pink Tutu World HQ:

1. Pink Tutu Spotlight: I have a real soft spot for vintage tutus, you see. So I've been scouring the internet for the most fabulous finds, and stumbled upon a real beauty: a 1950s silk tutu from a ballet school in Paris. Imagine, the same tutu might have twirled on the stages of the Palais Garnier! I'm trying to secure this one, but if you've got any gorgeous vintage tutus you're thinking of letting go, please do get in touch!

2. Ballet Bookshelf: I've just finished reading 'The Story of the Tutu' by Professor B. Featherbottom, and oh my, what a journey through time it is! This tome traces the tutu's evolution, from its beginnings in the romantic era right up to contemporary interpretations. I learned so much, and I absolutely loved seeing the exquisite designs through the ages! If you're a tutu fan like me, do grab a copy - it's pure tutudiction!

3. Dance and Discover: There's a new dance festival starting this week in Derby, right here in my hometown! The Festival of Dance, celebrating the brilliance of movement and choreography - a celebration of contemporary dance, hip hop, and of course, the timeless ballet! You can bet your pink tutus I'll be there, taking in all the action. And yes, maybe doing some cheeky backstage chats, perhaps even trying out a few dance steps myself - wouldn't want to be a spectator only!

And now, back to the exciting trip that prompted me to ditch my spacesuit for a spell and take a trip back to good old Planet Earth! You see, dear readers, it all started with a phone call from my dear cousin Clara. She told me about this fabulous ballet competition happening in Manchester. Imagine! An entire week dedicated to the grace, the strength, the magic of ballet, and it was right here in England!

I had to go. I couldn't resist.

I donned my sparkly silver spacesuit, strapped into the Pink Tutu Rocket, and in a flash I was off. I cruised over the earth, marveling at the emerald fields, the turquoise oceans, and of course, the incredible London skyline. You never appreciate how truly majestic our home planet is, until you see it from outer space!

But it wasn't just about the trip. This was a mission! My aim was to spread the joy of the tutu across Planet Earth. I was on a quest to discover the newest ballet trends, witness breathtaking performances, and even maybe give some young dancers a pink tutu makeover. (What's better than a budding ballerina, dressed head to toe in glorious pink? It’s almost criminal.)

The competition was a real sight. We're talking talented young dancers from all corners of the globe. There were waltzes that whisked you away to dreamland, leaps that sent you soaring into the atmosphere, and delicate pirouettes that made you wonder if these dancers were floating on clouds. Oh, the beauty! The elegance! The passion! It was everything a ballet lover like me could dream of!

I took lots of photos and videos for my readers, and of course, I'll be sharing them all with you soon on the website.

One performance that really stole the show was the contemporary dance routine inspired by a ballet I had witnessed just last month on another planet. Imagine this: a troupe of dancers in these stunning, flowy pastel gowns, their moves graceful and fluid, with this beautiful cosmic background! Their choreography had such powerful storytelling that I just stood there mesmerised!

This planet is truly a wellspring of inspiration, for dance, and for everything pink, too! You just need to open your eyes and be willing to twirl!

After the competition, I was lucky enough to be invited to a gorgeous afternoon tea at the beautiful Grand Hotel in Manchester. Oh my goodness, the pastries were truly divine, but what I found truly impressive were the hotel interiors. It felt like stepping back in time!

It wasn’t all about the grand occasions. After the afternoon tea, Clara took me to one of her favorite cafes in the city centre. The owner was this charming lady who was an absolute enthusiast about fashion and all things feminine, which just spoke to me! And yes, the cafe's décor? Perfectly pink. It was like finding my own little paradise in the middle of bustling Manchester! She even brought me a complimentary Pink Peppermint tea (with actual sprinkles). Who says you can't have it all, huh?

Oh, but the true highlight of my Planet Earth adventure, and something I shall treasure forever? I went shopping! It may seem like a frivolous affair, but hear me out, because I found myself in a vintage clothes store in the Northern Quarter, and let me tell you - the tutus! Absolutely stunning! The shop had vintage silk tutus, and lace tutus, and tutu-like dresses with feathers and frills...it was tutu overload in the best possible way. It's enough to make a ballerina go completely bonkers with glee!

I of course bought a few pieces, which you can find proudly displayed in my personal Pink Tutu Museum in my space station, the ‘Pink Tutu World HQ’. I promise, it'll be worth a visit on your next intergalactic travels. If you don't own a spaceship yet, I have contacts. I’m happy to put you in touch.

You know, dear readers, some of you might ask: “Why Pink? Why tutus? Why all this travel?” It's because, I think tutus are pure magic! They remind us of the beauty, grace, and strength of movement, and the sheer joy of expressing ourselves through dance! Pink, on the other hand, is the ultimate color of love, femininity, and happiness! It's a color that makes you smile and inspires you to embrace the wonder and joy in life.

When I see someone twirling in a pink tutu, I see a little bit of that magic, and my heart just skips a beat. I'd love to see a world where everyone has a pink tutu they can wear proudly!

This week on the Pink Tutu World Website, I'm going to be featuring some tutorials on how to create your own ballerina-inspired looks, so stay tuned! And who knows, perhaps a trip back to Planet Earth isn't out of the question… Maybe there’s a new ballerina-themed exhibit in London, or perhaps a charming Parisian ballet school that could use a dose of Pink Tutu World energy? The possibilities, dear readers, are as endless as the universe itself!

Until then, twirl on, stay fabulous, and don't forget to wear your pink!

With all the love in the galaxy (and on Planet Earth too),

Emma xxx
