Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth (Post 257) - 29th March, 2000

Darling darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu World blog post! I hope you're all having a fabulous week!

This week, I've had the most delightful adventure back on Planet Earth - what a thrill to be home for a bit!

It all started with my usual weekly visit to the "Planet Earth" Ballet Archive in my home county of Derbyshire. I mean, darling, you know how much I love the history of both ballet and tutus - and this place is a treasure trove of both!

Dancing through the Ages

This week, they had a special exhibit on the 18th Century. Did you know that tutus weren't always the billowing, beautiful things we see today? Imagine this - imagine tutus so tight and restricting that dancers could barely move! You'd be more likely to trip than pirouette! Can you believe it? I almost couldn't believe my own eyes when I saw the 18th-century examples - the styles then are truly beyond my wildest imagination.

I love researching and learning the history of tutus. Just as we’ve seen fashions and trends come and go, tutus have evolved so much over the years, each period having its own style.

For example, the first tutus, which appeared in the early 19th century, were very simple and practical, a stark contrast to the billowing romantic tutus of the 1840s and onwards. It was so interesting to see the original costumes on display. It gave me so much inspiration for my own creations – maybe even some new Pink Tutu World looks!

Dancing the Night Away

Speaking of ballet performances… the highlight of my week was a breathtaking ballet show at the prestigious London Coliseum!

This show, darlings, was something else entirely! It was based on one of my favourite fairytales - "The Sleeping Beauty". As I slipped into my own dazzling pink tutu, the soft, delicate pinks and reds of the theatre décor and stage created the perfect enchanting mood for the evening. The story of a princess, cursed into eternal sleep, captivated the whole audience – there were tears, cheers and so much appreciation. The final ballet was utterly exquisite, and I left feeling completely charmed.

After the show, my friend Lily (you know Lily, my dear, the one who's just as obsessed with pink tutus as I am) and I went for dinner. We both had our favourite salmon, asparagus and a lot of pink champagne. We spent hours reminiscing over our love of tutus, our favourite dancers and our past travels around the galaxy. Lily, as always, was sporting a fabulous sparkly blue tutu that matched the color of her eyes. Such fabulousness!

Tutus for Everyone!

But it’s not just about fancy shows and historical exhibitions – I love finding ways to incorporate ballet and tutus into everyday life, darling! You can imagine how surprised the shop assistant in Harrods looked when I popped in wearing a pale pink tutu, a silver bodice, and matching ballet slippers for a shopping spree. He was just staring at my sparkly, glittery outfit. And it was such a thrill for me to walk in on the pink fluffy carpet to buy all those divine outfits for my next intergalactic travel adventure.

Lily and I love a good window shopping trip - Harrods and Selfridges in London are such magical places to discover those gorgeous couture pieces and just be inspired by those dazzling creations!

My quest to spread the joy of pink tutus across the universe is a journey that is dear to my heart! My goal, darlings, is to encourage everyone on each and every planet to embrace the beauty and grace of the pink tutu – because every star, darling, deserves a chance to shine!

Stay fabulous!

Until next week,

Emma x
