Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - 23rd August 2000 - Post #278

Hello darlings!

It's Emma here, your pink-loving, tutu-wearing guide to all things fabulous! As you know, Wednesdays are reserved for my Planet Earth posts, and today's all about my absolutely sensational trip to… Planet Earth! That’s right, darlings, I’ve travelled back from the dizzying heights of Andromeda (last week’s adventure! Ooh la la!) and I’m finally home in dear old Derbyshire.

Landing with a Twirl

Landing in my favourite pink spaceship, it felt like I’d never left, really! The Derbyshire air, the rolling hills… you know what they say, ā€œThere’s no place like home!ā€ I might be a bit of a jetsetter (I’ve just got to see it all, don’t you think!), but a bit of my heart is always here, where my ballet journey first began.

The Thrill of the (Ballet) Stage

Of course, the real reason for coming home? It was time for a bit of a ballet feast, darlings! And what better way to do that than with the Derby Theatre’s Summer Season! Now, let’s just say they really went all out. The programme was jam-packed with classics – from Swan Lake’s tragic romance to the playful joy of The Nutcracker – plus some brand new choreography I couldn't wait to experience.

It’s always such a thrill to see a new production. You know how I love my old ballet classics – they’re timeless! But those first nights are pure magic! The excitement backstage, the hush before the music starts… the applause when the curtain goes down! And don’t get me started on the outfits! I’m a bit of a fashionista, as you know. And I tell you, I have the greatest respect for the talented costumiers who make those ballerinas look utterly exquisite on stage.

*My Inner Shopaholic *

The Derby Theatre also boasts a lovely gift shop! They had these divine tutus - a delightful shade of lavender – I just had to buy one for my collection. Oh, and let’s not forget the souvenir programme. I know I should be focusing on the art form and the dancers, but I just love having that keepsake! I mean, can you even imagine life without souvenirs, darlings?! SacrĆ© bleu! A bit of retail therapy never hurts anyone. In fact, you know what they say… ā€œIt’s always worth twirling for.ā€

A Spot of Tea (and Cake) at the Dance Tea Room

Now, let’s be honest. No ballet experience is complete without a perfect post-show treat. So naturally, after my ballet adventures at the Derby Theatre, I just had to pop in to the delightfully old-world Dance Tea Room. This place is truly a gem, with its gorgeous floral wallpaper and plush armchairs, the perfect spot to sip on a delicious Earl Grey and tuck into a heavenly slice of Victoria sponge. It’s just as much of an experience as the ballet itself! And trust me, if I enjoy it, you’ll absolutely adore it!

Pink Tutus on Planet Earth?

This whole trip made me think… while I’m out there in space, I still hold Planet Earth close to my heart. I see such incredible talent here – I know all you ballerinas on Earth could inspire those star-crossed lovers on other planets!

And speaking of inspiring, remember the aim? Get everyone in the universe wearing a pink tutu! It’s my little dream. I even wore my latest design for my final Grand JetĆ© at the Derby Theatre (I had everyone on the edge of their seats!). Maybe one day even the men will join us – imagine those costumes, darling! Wouldn’t it just be wonderful to see them all twirling under the galactic spotlight? Until then, let's spread the joy of dance and glitter!

This week’s ballet recommendations:

  • Check out your local theatre for dance performances.
  • Sign up for a ballet class – you might just surprise yourself with how much fun you have!
  • Don’t forget to shop! My website is packed with all things tutus, you’ll be the belle of the ball – whether you’re here on Planet Earth, or in a far-off galaxy.

What’s on this 23rd August:

  • On this day, 2000, it’s my birthday! I’ve been twirling around Planet Earth and other fabulous worlds ever since, with each year a whole new adventure. Let’s make this year one for the ages!

Remember, darling: it’s all about the glitter, the tutus, the joy of movement, and the love for the art of ballet. Until next week, I’ll leave you with a final pirouette – don't forget to live life in full twirl!

P.S. I have just been commissioned to choreograph a dance piece for the Alpha Centauri Arts Festival. Stay tuned to www.pink-tutu.com for my daily blog updates!
