Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth – Post 344 – 2001-11-28

Hello my gorgeous tutu-loving darlings!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another blast of Pink Tutu World magic! This week, I'm bursting with excitement to tell you all about my most recent interstellar adventures, as I've just flown back from a truly spectacular trip to, you guessed it, Planet Earth!

Pink Tutu Planet Earth

My trip to Planet Earth was actually quite a whirlwind - I flew in on my Pink-ified Spaceship, of course (it's the only way to travel in style!), and touched down in the gorgeous English countryside - a region called "Derbyshire", where I'm originally from, the home of the infamous Derbyshire Dales which is a glorious sight for any nature loving eye!

I'm a real planet-hopper when it comes to my travels, I like to check out all the different cultures and, you guessed it, see if they've discovered the beauty of the tutu! So far, I'd have to say that Earthlings are definitely getting there, there's a real blossoming ballet scene out there - lots of grand theaters and ballet schools!

This time I landed in Derbyshire for a special reason - it's one of those quirky little cultural events that makes my heart leap for joy! A village called Wirksworth was holding its annual Festival of the Arts! Can you believe it?! Not only was it celebrating art and theatre, but I'm so excited to say there was even a "Dance Day" celebrating a famous ballerina called Margot Fonteyn who hailed from the local area! Isn't that so wonderful?

From Ballerina to Ballet Goddess

Of course, as a ballet fanatic myself, it felt utterly divine to be amidst all of the ballet excitement! The entire village was decked out in colourful art and beautiful displays; I mean, let's be honest, what else would you expect from the tutu-wearing wonder herself?

As soon as I set foot in the village square, there was a fabulous street performer dressed in a stunning red tutu and a feather boa! Talk about catching the eye. You just have to be brave when you're wearing something so spectacular! But I loved it. It’s truly fantastic that street dance and performance is so well loved and embraced on Earth - there are so many wonderful forms, including classical ballet and ballet-inspired street styles - how thrilling!

Of course, I went on a proper shopping spree in the artsy shops, snapping up loads of colourful trinkets and beautiful decorations - it's no wonder this planet has been described as the 'Garden of Eden' - it is so wonderfully stylish and has such a fab cultural flair. They say a bit of pink can go a long way to brighten up a day and these folks certainly aren’t shy about colour and sparkle - it’s divine!

I am a sucker for a local market and as I browsed the stalls there was not a single dull moment! You can find everything from handcrafted pottery and jewellery to local artwork - all of it completely delightful! And they've even started embracing the whole pink aesthetic with Pink Gin Cocktails (which have become wildly popular) – how very tutu indeed! I think Earth is catching on to the amazing power of the color pink – that’s how we spread the pink tutu love! I love how this whole area of Derbyshire is making the colour pink more prominent!

Catching the Performance

I was so happy to have found my way to the community hall for the Festival’s Gala Dance Performance. The atmosphere was absolutely electric – and you could hear a pin drop when the lights dimmed before the first act! Talk about making a dramatic entrance!

There were dancers from all different schools – tiny ones, like 5-year-olds who absolutely stole the show! and others from professional ballet companies who were incredible. I just love to see all forms of dancing - the little dancers with such huge personalities, it really reminds you about the magic of childhood. Ballet really allows dancers of all ages to showcase their talents, whether it’s been months or years of lessons, they can all share the stage.

I did notice one thing which really fascinated me, which is the different ways people celebrate their passion for ballet. This show felt different to any I'd experienced – all the dancers seemed inspired by local legends and stories of their beautiful English countryside, with one act called ‘Fairies & Fables’, where dancers told tales of ancient spirits – such an amazing blend of folk and contemporary - I must try that sometime!

Ballet Across the World - It’s Not Just for Fancy Princesses!

I know what you’re all thinking. You’re wondering if planet Earth really embraced all aspects of ballet – because let’s be honest… ballet does sometimes get labelled as something for just princesses. But you know me, I love busting the old myth!

This gala showed how ballet can tell stories, explore themes, and evoke emotions, while celebrating culture and its many and diverse styles. I found that ballet on Earth has definitely come a long way, There's still some progress to make - I always love to encourage all those amazing dancers out there to give their passion a go!

As I always say, a pink tutu is never out of place - and it's certainly a sure-fire way to get everyone embracing their own personal style.

Fashion-Forward Earthlings

I did, however, have a little tutu disappointment. The shops I visited did have a whole host of colourful clothing, however, they had only a few tutus – all in basic colours – but no pinks, oranges, purples or greens! Imagine a beautiful lavender-coloured tutu or a sunshine-yellow one for ballet or even for everyday outfits – so very Pink-Tutu World, am I right? I had a chat with some local designers and told them to watch out for this new style tutu-wave, so fingers crossed that when I come back to Planet Earth again next month there's a much greater variety of colours on show – I really want to share the Pink Tutu World Love on this planet. Pink just makes the world a more beautiful place, in my opinion – what better place to find fabulous fashion than on Planet Earth?

This post is getting awfully long – I just get carried away! I must wrap it up but let me know your favourite stories from Planet Earth. Are you inspired by the vibrant dancers or art scene I mentioned in my blog post? Have you got any ballet news to share? Tell me about your love for ballet – everything’s fab! Remember, if you want to discover a new and beautiful planet, take the trip with Pink Tutu World and discover your inner dancer and fashionista.

And most importantly, wear your tutus with confidence. It’s time to take to the dance floor. I'll be posting my next blog in seven days.

XOXO
