Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Blog Post #355

Wednesday, February 13th, 2002

Dearest tutu lovers,

Oh, what a wonderful Wednesday it is! It's that time of the week again - a time for me to catch you up on all the twirls, the sparkles, and the endless adventures of a Pink Tutu Girl gallivanting around the galaxy!

You see, my dear readers, even after all these years, life still manages to throw up the most magical surprises. You'd think after travelling to Mars in a glittering, space-age pink tutu and dancing with the moon bunnies, I'd be quite used to the cosmic quirks. But oh no! Every trip, every performance, is a brand new experience - just like my ever-growing collection of pink tutus! (Which, by the way, has a corner reserved specifically for celestial fabrics! Who knew stardust was such a wonderful shade of blush?)

So where, you ask, is Emma's Pink Tutu on this fine February day?

Well, dear readers, today, I'm right here, back on Earth! (I know, it seems awfully tame after visiting that incredible diamond planet, doesn't it? Imagine, twinkling, jewel-encrusted mountains... it's a vision that still pops into my mind like a dazzling, shimmering ballet!). But this week's trip back to Planet Earth is for something rather special – a whirlwind visit to London, of course, the capital of ballet itself!

A Ballet Bonanza in London Town!

I simply had to witness a new show - 'The Sleeping Beauty' with The Royal Ballet, you see, darling. It's an old favourite, but each performance is unique, brimming with that theatrical magic. Honestly, watching them, all these phenomenal ballerinas twirling in perfect unison, was an utter delight! The colours, the sets, the sheer grace… the entire experience made my tutu tingle with joy. (Though I'm afraid, after seeing those incredibly intricate and lavish tutus on stage, my own personal tutu collection will need some serious revamping… I've been meaning to invest in some new feathered trims... just think how majestic it will be!).

After the show, there was of course, a little treat – tea and cake at the gorgeous Cafe de Paris, a little known haven tucked away amongst the busy streets of the West End. And then... some glorious ballet-themed shopping, my favourite pastime! Imagine a delectable collection of tutus in all imaginable colours and textures, along with dancing shoes that feel like dancing on clouds. You see, my darling readers, London is a dancer's paradise. And, of course, a pink tutu enthusiast's ultimate dream come true. (You'll see photos of my newest finds - a vibrant flamingo pink tutu with sparkly silver lace trim – on my Instagram page!).

A Day of Cultural Revelations

Before I head back to the cosmos on Friday, I do have a treat for you:

Did you know…? The history of the tutu is just as dazzling as the tutu itself! I found myself exploring The Victoria & Albert Museum in Kensington, home to an astonishing collection of ballet costumes – an exhibition spanning from the 17th Century! Can you believe, the first tutu designs involved long, flowing dresses? Imagine a ballerina gracefully floating across the stage in yards upon yards of elegant fabric. How exquisite!

This trip back to Earth always provides a fascinating glimpse into ballet history, which I must say, is just as exciting as a star-gazing mission.

Until next time, dear tutu-lovers!

As always, I wish you a week filled with laughter, pirouettes, and of course, some serious pink tutu moments.

Yours truly,

Emma x
