Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #365

Wednesday, 24th April 2002

Hello, darling readers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another blast of pinkness, and a dash of stardust from your favourite ballerina blogger! I’m currently orbiting the third rock from the sun, Planet Earth – or, as the locals call it, just “Earth” – in a lovely, pink, tutu-emblazoned spaceship, waiting for the inevitable tug of gravity to draw me down to this green, blue, and brown paradise.

But first, let’s have a little chat, shall we? About tutu history. Ooh, it’s one of my absolute favourite subjects! So many interesting twists and turns – like a really fabulous pirouette!

This week, let’s delve into the origins of the tutu. Did you know that the tutu, in its early form, wasn’t exactly what we know and love today? Oh no! In fact, it was just a tight, little, short skirt, hardly even a skirt at all, more like a tiny ruffle of fabric! That’s right, before it became the symbol of grace and elegance we adore, the tutu was more… frumpy?

It all started back in the 19th century. Think romantic, flowery skirts and ball gowns, oh so frilly and fancy! Well, that’s what ballet dancers used to wear. And I do mean used to – I mean, how else would you twirl and leap about in all those layers? That’s where the first little “tutus” came in. Imagine tiny little ruffles, all over the bottom of their frilly ball gowns! The idea was to free up their legs for amazing movements. A big leap for the world of ballet, quite literally!

As time went on, these “tutus” became shorter and shorter, eventually reaching the tiny, pouffy skirts we all adore! That’s right, the tutu evolved over time, with ballet dancers embracing more daring moves, wanting to show off their grace and artistry with greater freedom. So next time you see a ballerina in a tutu, think of all those daring ladies of the stage who fought for that ultimate, graceful freedom!

This brings us to my travels… You see, I’m always looking for the next tutu-tastic inspiration! And where better to find inspiration than in the birthplace of the pas de deux (that’s “two step” to you non-ballerinas)! It’s time for a “tutu-cultural exchange”, as I like to call it – and what better way to celebrate all the different expressions of beauty and artistry on this Earth, than to dance around it, of course!

Speaking of artistry, have you heard of the “Tutu of the Day” series that I’ve started on my Instagram? I feature some of the most creative and artistic tutus I find, from simple, vintage delights to sparkling, show-stopping creations! And just because I love the world of fashion, I also started a "Pink Dress of the Day" – oh darling, the creations on Earth are utterly divine!

I am utterly charmed by this little corner of the universe. There’s so much beauty here! Today, I found myself wandering through the quaint and cobbled streets of Derbyshire where I used to call home. A sweet old town, steeped in history, just the sort of place to find beautiful, quaint buildings – you can just picture the tiny shop windows full of lace and bows, just waiting to become part of a delightful little tutu design. Maybe I should create a "Derbyshire Tutu" to pay homage to its charming streets…

It's April 24th, and while the sun shines over the green fields and pretty cottages, my little space ship awaits its gentle landing. The call of Earth draws me, calling me to the world of stage and street, where the lights twinkle bright and the music plays a familiar tune. You know what this means, don't you? Ballet time! Tonight, I will see a new production – a classic that will be presented in a beautiful and modern way.

Speaking of modern, can we talk about ballet street? Have you heard about the explosion of ballet-inspired fashion around the world? I love it, I tell you! And all that vibrant energy... Ballet street has this amazing energy about it! This combination of traditional ballet technique and urban culture really sets my imagination into a wild spin. I am actually working on my new ballet routine called “Intergalactic Fusion”, a stunning and glamorous intergalactic tour through both classical and contemporary styles - think ballet with a dash of space-age chic, a whirlwind of swirling colour and a splash of pink of course.

Before I lose myself completely in the whirlwind of creative thoughts, let me tell you about my next real mission! I’ve booked myself on a trip to Paris! Ooh la la! You can't talk about fashion without thinking of Paris and its charming elegance. That’s why I'll be making a stop there! Can you picture me? Twirling through the cobbled streets, gliding past charming boulangeries, stopping by one of the beautiful couture houses to gather inspiration! Ooh darling, I can hardly wait! But, first, I must pay homage to Earth's unique style – a delightful concoction of chic, elegant styles with a hint of street, something utterly new and exciting, that always leaves me spellbound.

You know what? It seems the world, even my world, isn’t just about fancy shows and exquisite gowns, not really. I know I say this all the time but, it is actually the beauty of simple movements, of how a graceful twirl can bring joy that matters most.

And maybe, just maybe, I can help spread the love of ballet even further! Imagine, a universe full of tutus, dancing across the galaxy – that’s the kind of world I dream of! I know some of you are wondering – what do I do on Earth when I’m not twirling around? You know what? That's a perfect question for a blog post... And that's exactly what I'll be doing, next week.

See you soon, my darlings, until next Wednesday!

XOXO

Emma
