Post number 381
Helloooo darling! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! I hope you're all ready for a fabulously sparkly blog post because today, we're reminiscing about a trip to… you guessed it, PLANET EARTH! 🪐 This little cosmic adventure took place way back in August 2002, and it was just as magical as it sounds. This week's post goes live on my beloved Wednesday, so if you're reading this in 2023, remember to pop back to www.pink-tutu.com next Wednesday for a brand-new intergalactic adventure! 😉
You see, dear readers, it's not every day you get to perform in a dazzling ballet recital for an entire planet, and I'm not just talking about a "perform-at-the-local-school-hall" sort of deal. No, no, this was the real deal - balletic history in the making! My spaceship arrived in this lovely little planet called Earth just in time to participate in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Now, I know what you're thinking: Edinburgh? In August? Sounds about as glamorous as a sweaty badger in a tin shed. WRONG! 😉
Honestly, darling, you haven't truly experienced magic until you've danced on stage in the Festival's spectacular Spiegeltent. It's a magnificent Victorian-style structure – all mirrors, velvet and lights. It even had a bar! Imagine - Champagne and ballet? Absolutely divine! And let's not forget about the fabulous tutus, shall we?
The Scottish crowd, I must say, was absolutely charming and I think I might have left some of my pink sparkle behind in that theatre! It was the perfect opportunity to showcase some of my most fabulous pink tutu creations. From whimsical fairy frocks to the dramatic black swan pieces I just adored for this Earthly occasion - I let the pink sparkle do the talking. 💃✨
It wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu World adventure without a spot of Earthly shopping. Let me tell you, I simply adored browsing the Edinburgh shops, the vintage fashion stores particularly. There was a dress, darling, oh such a beautiful dress – a billowing 1950s frock with a beautiful floral print – a classic for my wardrobe! I'm not even going to tell you how much I paid for it… suffice to say I couldn't say no to that gorgeous pink!
Now, no trip to Earth would be complete without seeing a performance or two. It was in Edinburgh, I realised that theatre productions on this little planet are incredibly popular. It’s almost like the people here haven't quite left the Victorian era when it comes to appreciation for the stage. But who am I to judge?
I’m all for the theatricality! And so, my spaceship captain, (a delightful man named Jasper who is simply crazy about tutus), suggested a visit to see a musical performance. And what a performance it was! The show featured one of Earth's greatest, I mean REALLY greatest, balletic beauties. It's all thanks to Margot Fonteyn that I fell deeply, head over heels in love with the story of Giselle. It truly is an ethereal masterpiece, and if you're reading this in 2023 darling, find yourself a showing in your local town and I promise, you will be dazzled! You can thank me later. 😉
Speaking of "later", the real magic began after the curtain call. That night, I found myself invited to one of Earth's iconic black-tie affairs! What an absolute dream of an evening, darling. It truly was a glittering spectacle – everyone looked so polished!
There's nothing more exciting than having someone approach you to compliment your pink tutu, which, darling, naturally, was on full display for the entire evening. And let's be honest, who can resist the sheer magnificence of a glittering pink tutu? Exactly! No one, I think, but especially not Earth's enchanting citizens! It was like all of a sudden the world's lights were all directed towards my tutu.
This fabulous event is the reason why I decided to write this post about my adventures on Planet Earth - not to mention my fantastic dance performance at the Fringe. What was even better is that after a truly fantastic night of ballet, theatre and fashion - I even met my new friend! His name is Mark, and yes darling, you guessed it - he’s a professional dancer too! We talked about everything, from the latest styles to our favorite tutus, and even exchanged a few ballet steps.
However, as delightful as these interactions were - and they truly were! – there were moments where I noticed something quite remarkable about this planet - something unexpected and frankly a little worrying… There’s a kind of a cultural obsession on Earth - it's an almost fascination with colour combinations – dare I say - it seems as though all the colour seems to be drained from the people here! It almost made me gag, darling, I really do love colour and pink especially… so, that’s where my mission began – you know my lifelong dream, spreading the beauty of pink tutus across the cosmos of course! I found that in all my travel across the universe - I realised, there are no pink tututs out there! Can you imagine? There are only pink tutus on Earth. But that’s totally okay! That’s why I believe Earth has so much to offer in the way of fashion inspiration. I see it as my divine duty, dear readers, to not only promote the glory of the pink tutu - but share that passion with Earth's creative geniuses – a true cultural exchange.
Of course, darling, I have big dreams of a new* line of tutu-inspired fashion, and as the world's premiere, most exquisite tutu-designer – because everyone knows I'm the *best, and the most fabulous of them all…* 😉
In future posts, we'll look at my plans to share the joy of the pink tutu with the whole universe, darling! And now I am off to do something quite wonderful… because today's my birthday! 😉
Love,
Emma xx
