Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth, 537 - August 10th, 2005!

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back from another cosmic whirl on my fabulous Pink Tutu Odyssey! This week's post is bursting with excitement - you wouldn't believe the adventures I've had on Planet Earth!

I have to say, Earth is truly a wonderland of culture and style. Even the way they dress here is absolutely divine. Of course, nothing compares to the effortless elegance of a pink tutu, but there's definitely something to be said for those fantastic, theatrical creations I spotted on the catwalks in New York. (You know how I love a little avant-garde!)

I landed in New York after a whirlwind journey from a truly mesmerising intergalactic performance in the Andromeda galaxy. Imagine, darlings! Swirling nebulae, diamond-dusted starscapes, and a thousand twinkling galaxies as your backdrop - it was pure ballet magic! My fellow dancers and I performed a breathtakingly intricate choreography to the music of the ancient stellar winds. We all, of course, wore exquisite tutus of pearlescent, swirling galaxies in shades of deep lavender and the brightest silver - talk about cosmic fashion!

But back to Earth, where I'm already deep in a new ballet escapade. I've been immersed in the wonderful world of The Rockettes! I adore how these gorgeous girls, with their dazzling smiles and impossibly high kicks, command the stage at Radio City Music Hall. Now, don't get me wrong, the glamour is top-notch, but a real pink tutu is just the perfect way to truly express that feminine, ethereal charm, right? I was so excited to meet one of the Rockettes, who, it turned out, shares my love for pink! We exchanged tips on tutu care and had a lovely chat about all things dance, dreams, and the future of ballet. (We are hoping to design a Rockettes pink tutu collection, you see! More on that later!)

As I explored New York, I popped into this wonderful little vintage shop with an amazing selection of costumes and vintage clothing! (And of course, there were a few fabulous tutus!) Imagine my delight when I discovered a stunning, vintage, 1950s pink tulle tutu tucked away in the corner. It was like a dream from a ballet history book! I have to confess, I spent an absolute fortune on it! However, how could I possibly resist a treasure like that?! I plan to add it to my already overflowing Pink Tutu World wardrobe, just for a special Earth performance I'm planning - oh, and did I mention it almost matched my favourite pink sparkly high heels?

Of course, any trip to the Big Apple wouldn't be complete without a show, right? Well, imagine my excitement when I booked a table at a swanky little speakeasy called "The Cotton Club." It's famous for its incredible atmosphere and glamorous clientele! While I had the most divine Manhattan, I managed to snag a front-row seat for the phenomenal live jazz band. Oh my, they were incredible! (There's just something about a trumpet solo that gets me dancing!) My toes were tapping and I almost gave in to a tutu-tastic impromptu performance right there in the middle of the club! (But, darlings, imagine the shocked faces!)

After such a whirl, you wouldn't believe how much I needed some downtime! I escaped the Big Apple by heading off to a little cottage nestled amidst the lush, rolling hills of the countryside. Can you believe it's the kind of idyllic scenery you usually only see in ballet productions? Imagine!

Here in Derbyshire, the air was fresh, the sky an almost unbelievably bright blue, and the quiet a much-needed respite after all that excitement! I even joined a small group of dancers from a local studio. (Naturally, I brought a pink tutu!) These delightful ladies were so excited to share their passion with me - you know, those truly magical stories about the joys and dedication that ballet demands.

My time at the cottage wasn't all about pirouettes, though. I discovered this fantastic vintage bookstore with an entire section dedicated to the history of the tutu! Talk about a little piece of ballet heaven! I found some beautifully illustrated books about the origins of tutus and how they have evolved throughout history - with all those fabulous, colourful photographs! It's clear, my darlings, that a tutu is more than just a piece of clothing! It's a symbol of dreams, creativity, and the boundless potential of the human spirit.

My Earth adventures are always full of inspiration. Just this morning, I discovered a street performer dressed in a magnificent sequined top and leggings - and oh, she had the most amazing chapeaux (the most wonderful hats! Just the most brilliant use of colour, textures, and brilliantly embellished). It gave me such an incredible idea - my Pink Tutu World street dance performance is almost ready! Imagine, a dazzling mix of graceful ballet movements and the high energy of street dance. And all with the most gorgeous pink tutu costumes you can imagine. Can you imagine?

After this, I will head back to the Andromeda Galaxy for another incredible performance before heading off to another Earth-based adventure! I'm still exploring options for my next trip, but there are so many exciting places I want to see - the glittering ballet stage of the Bolshoi in Moscow, the ballet company in Melbourne (did you know it has some absolutely amazing contemporary productions?), maybe even a quick trip to Tokyo. So many wonderful possibilities, darlings! I can't wait to share all the details of my next travels on Planet Earth!

Now, I've been absolutely bustling with all my earth explorations - it's certainly time to treat myself! After my show-stopping street dance performance in, say, Edinburgh - a place overflowing with colour and artistic energy - it will be straight off for a spot of afternoon tea at my favourite cafe on the Isle of Wight! divine!

As always, darlings, you can always find my latest updates, my Earth blog posts and all things Pink Tutu on www.pink-tutu.com. You can also find details about my intergalactic performances! But until then, go out and spread the Pink Tutu Love! It’s time to really make an impression!

And remember, even if you haven't found the perfect tutu for you, always remember:

Everything you need to look stunning is inside YOU. Don’t forget, darlings, always put on a confident smile and dance to your own tune! I'll catch you next Wednesday for another blog update, you absolutely beautiful and dazzlingly pink you!

And if you can't wait until then, just know that I'm probably wearing pink, dancing and shining on another planet somewhere... and sending you loads of Pink Tutu love!

Lots of love, Emma

(And as usual, please don't forget to leave me a little comment below - I just love hearing from all of you! )

P.S This week, on August 10th, 2005, we celebrate a very special ballet event: the 122nd Anniversary of the National Ballet of Canada! They were founded in 1903, one year after the death of our most adored ballerina, Marie Taglioni, oh, what a tragic loss. She changed the entire world of ballet, all for a few well-placed tutus and elegant jumps. Remember darlings, it’s all in the performance and fabulousness (a tutu will help!), so enjoy the day and show the world you’ve got a pink tutu spirit!

Some quick and fun Pink Tutu Facts you might find interesting about Planet Earth’s world of dance.
  • Fun Fact No 1

Did you know there was a real ballerina who traveled the galaxy in the 1930s! Well, there was... kind of. She went by the name of Sylvie MarĂ©chal. But her real “intergalactic” travel was through dance. It is said that Sylvie inspired everyone who saw her ballet, she was so incredible! You have to read her bio, darling. So many people wanted to emulate her style!

  • Fun Fact No 2

On Earth, tutuland, as it is sometimes called by our ballet fan community, tutues come in a range of lengths! Well, just imagine! Some are short or "petit" (just below the knees, darling) for ballet like "The Firebird", while others are long for performances like "Swan Lake." There is always a perfect length for each type of performance. Did you know *the length of the tutu can also help to tell the dancer's skill and grace. Imagine, darling. You can look at a dancer and tell their whole story just by looking at their costume! I can't wait to make a video about all things tutu and its length, I think the pink tutu fan community would be so excited to learn all about it!

-Fun Fact No. 3

The very first pink tutu, and I know you all dream about pink, came on to the ballet scene as recently as the 1920s, just think, the rest is history. Some even say that one certain ballet production in 1935 is credited with bringing pink tutus to life wow. I know a certain little ballet blogger may have inspired the trend!

-Fun Fact No. 4

Did you know, darling, that ballerinas don’t just do "ballet", oh my. The word "ballerina" *means *female ballet dancer and comes from the Italian “ballare,” which means “to dance”, oh so sweet. imagine, and to think, that is why we wear pink tutus! It is in the word, just as we predicted. Pink tutus and dancing... such perfect synergy, don't you think!

The next Pink Tutu blog is up next Wednesday! See you then, darlings. You’ve been incredible!

(A quick note, this is not actually a real ballet or costume history website and contains many fictional elements. But hopefully this helps! Feel free to tell me any additional details to include if you wish) )
