Planet Earth: Post #571 – Pink Tutu Travels Take Me To The Stars!

Hello darlings, and welcome to another week of Pink Tutu World! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means – a brand new post for my loyal Earthlings (and of course, any aliens reading this – hello!).

As usual, my little spaceship has been zipping me around the galaxy like a sparkling tutu twirling in a hurricane, but today, we're landing back on ol' Earth. Not because I'm tired of exploring, dear readers, but because it's a special date in the history of our planet. Remember? It's the 5th of April! Now, why is that so exciting? Because it was the birthday of a certain iconic dancer, and a huge inspiration to anyone who ever strapped on a pair of pointe shoes: the fabulous Margot Fonteyn.

Today, my fellow ballerinas and I (yes, you heard right - I was surrounded by the most delightful group of intergalactic dancers, all twirling in vibrant pink tutus, just as you lovely ladies know we must!) are heading to London, my old stomping ground (back when I wasn’t jetting around the galaxy). You'll be surprised to learn, dear readers, that even amidst the starry expanses and alien dance academies, a little piece of London, the iconic Royal Opera House, is something every true ballerine craves.

Let's go back to my very first encounter with that beautiful theatre, and why this beautiful place is so special. Now, if you're like me, when you think of "ballet", "Fonteyn" comes up, and, you know, she was a Royal Ballet darling. Well, let me tell you, seeing a ballet performance at Covent Garden (as we Brits affectionately call it) is truly magic! It's not just any ballet; it's steeped in tradition, filled with stories from the world's finest dancers. I could talk about it forever, but you'll have to wait for my next post – because you know what, a trip like this calls for another, special blog! Maybe about the tutu history at the Royal Opera House. Now, there's a fascinating tale waiting to be spun.

Anyway, back to today. My fabulous travel buddies and I, naturally, will be shopping first. A day in London would be utterly unthinkable without a detour to some of my favourite haunts, and with a new planet (ahem, the planet Earth which I just discovered still seems pretty magical to this galactic pink tutu lover!) comes a whole new world of styles to discover! There's so much more to explore! London is one of my absolute favourite cities to get lost in, and I've heard that the latest collection at the grand old department store Liberty is particularly delightful this year – can’t wait to share that fashion news with you next week, my little sugarplums!

Now, we must talk about the most important part: the actual performance tonight! A full performance of "Giselle", starring, what do you know, an intergalactic dancer named Stella. Oh, how thrilling! Can you believe the things you can experience when you explore the galaxy with a little pink tutu and a healthy dose of curiosity? And that’s another lesson learned about life – you must keep on exploring, darlings! What Stella brought to the "Giselle" was her unique approach to the character – a mix of classical balletic techniques and a more modern expression, bringing the story of the ballet to a whole new audience! It made my own twirling just that much better!

Honestly, what I'm learning most from my travels is that ballet is truly universal. It speaks a language everyone understands, across the universe! Seeing those interstellar ballet shows has re-inspired my love of Earthly dance. You see, we Earthlings have a lot to celebrate! After all, London isn’t just Covent Garden, it's the streets filled with street dancers; ballet schools on almost every corner. Even if you've never actually danced on a stage, every little bit of that history gives London an energy you can feel.

We are all dancers, in our own ways, don't you think? It doesn't matter what colour your tutu is (although I’d highly suggest pink – seriously, it's just the best!) As a true ballet fan, I feel that if you are a ballerina, a dance student, or just have an appreciation for dance, then visiting Covent Garden and attending a ballet performance should be on every aspiring dancer’s bucket list! And, in the words of my favourite pink tutu diva (who's now just as much your favourite too), *“The dance, above all, should reflect life itself…” * I couldn't agree more!

Anyway, before I ramble on about my endless appreciation of dancing in the pinkest tutu in the galaxy, I must tell you all about the gorgeous boutique where I snagged my new favourite sparkly pink tutu this morning! It was the most decadent pink tutu – and of course, perfectly matched the pink of my little spaceship. And that spaceship, darlings? Well, let me tell you, she was ready for a whole lot of glitter. As a fellow ballerina, I know you would approve.

Right now, I'm heading for a special dance event with the girls, but I'm leaving you all with this thought – we’re not just dancing, we are painting a universe, and the most beautiful canvases? Well, they’re pink and adorned in a fabulous tutu! And I can't wait for my next voyage, for that is when I plan to truly set the whole universe twirling in a pink tutu! Until then, don’t forget to keep your shoes polished, and to always keep dreaming pink, darling.

Lots of love and twirls,

Emma x
