Pink Tutu World: Post #573: Ballet on Planet Earth – 19th April 2006! 🩰🌎

Helloooo, my darling tututistas! It’s Emma, your gal on a mission to bring a touch of pink tulle to every corner of the universe. And where better to start than on good old Planet Earth? It’s Wednesday, so that means a brand-new blog post for you lot, right here on www.pink-tutu.com. Grab yourselves a cuppa and settle in for a right good read, lovelies.

Right, you know I’ve been bouncing around the cosmos lately – and let me tell you, it's been utterly fabulous! I've pirouetted across the surface of Neptune (the blue's a bit harsh on my skin tone, let me tell you!), moonwalked across the craters of Luna, and even attempted a grand jeté over Jupiter's Red Spot (didn't quite manage it, it's bigger than I expected). My ballet shoes are well and truly worn, but my passion for dance knows no bounds – nor planetary boundaries, I'm proud to say!

Speaking of planets, I just had to pop back to Earth to check out some of the exciting things happening in the ballet world this week! And wouldn’t you know it, there's a whole bunch of amazing shows and performances going on, making a pink-tutu-loving ballerina's heart do a double-piqué!

Ballet Bound in the Big Smoke:

This week, my little spaceship dropped me right into London. The cultural heart of Planet Earth – and, oh, it’s simply thriving. It's like a bustling ballroom of art and creativity, but with more buses and rain, haha.

I’ve just seen an incredible performance at the Royal Opera House. It was "Swan Lake" - such a classic and a personal favourite of mine. You know, even after seeing so many ballets on my cosmic journey, there's something special about experiencing those earthbound classics – a bit of home from home. This one didn’t disappoint, though I swear I saw a twinkle of pink tutu inspiration in the corps de ballet. Now, I’m not saying the ladies should be all out pink, but a little sprinkle of tulle wouldn't hurt, eh? wink

Of course, the ballerinas were divine – and I’m absolutely smitten with the adagio. My feet, oh, they tingle just thinking about those moves! The swans are so elegant and beautiful, all that movement - just beautiful. This ballet just shows the real meaning of a love story, isn't it? I nearly cried, I truly did!

After the show, it’s off to Liberty’s department store – one of my favourite places for a bit of shopping in London. They have the most amazing clothes – and my wardrobe just isn’t complete without a few new tutu-inspired frocks for all the upcoming galactic events. You just can't go wrong with a bit of London fashion, lovelies. Especially when you need to feel ready for your next big intergalactic dance-off.

From London to Derbyshire:

My travels on planet Earth have taken me back to my roots – back to my home county of Derbyshire, England. And while it might be a bit quieter than London, trust me, this county has some ballet treasures too!

Now, the Derbyshire Dance Centre is right near me. This place has been churning out ballet talent for decades! A haven for dancers of all ages and levels. They’ve got everything, from classic ballet technique to more contemporary styles. Honestly, it’s a lovely spot. A real passion for ballet – it just seeps out of the walls.

But before we hit the Derbyshire countryside, let’s take a step back in time!

Tutu History and Fashion Through the Ages

Did you know that tutus actually didn’t become what we know today until the mid-19th century? Well, the original version was kind of… awkward, you know. Imagine a ballet skirt that ended mid-thigh – pretty much a more formal petticoat! It’s all a long story, lovelies. But I find it so fascinating!

I was just thinking about tutu history in a beautiful antique shop in Matlock, a lovely little village just near my home in Derbyshire. And it got me reminiscing – about the big, bell-shaped tutus that dominated the Romantic period. They're simply majestic – so full, like clouds of tulle. Then the 1860s hit and there was an actual explosion of design. Tutu lengths shortened, fabrics changed, it all got quite exciting, actually. They even used fabrics like velvet and taffeta - imagine, a pink velvet tutu! Stunning!

Oh, and then we had the ‘Bell Skirt’, – this revolutionary version became the iconic tutus we see on stage today – tight and light as a feather! It revolutionised the way ballerinas danced! A tiny tutu revolution that changed the face of ballet! Can't a gal take a lesson from history!

Speaking of which, you won't believe what I found in this shop! A beautifully faded but oh-so-sweet pink ballet slipper from the early 1900s – now, that's something you don't see every day! A true testament to a ballerina’s history on this very planet.

I must admit, the ballet history is what inspires my mission to bring pink tutus to the world. After all, every fashion story starts somewhere! And mine began with a passion for dance and some serious appreciation for those iconic fluffy creations that make ballerinas look so absolutely divine.

The World of Planet Earth’s Ballet

Now, for you lovely dancers out there - it's always amazing to find out what's happening in the ballet world around us! There’s more than enough happening to give your tutus a proper twirl! So, let’s delve into some planet Earth ballet updates!

We have the English National Ballet. A group that are busy with all kinds of touring around the world, showing off all that beautiful ballet style, bringing in amazing performers, incredible story telling and making all the beautiful dance move possible! And just last week, the ENB took The Sleeping Beauty to Manchester and Liverpool. These performances sold out fast. I bet a few pink tutus showed up too!

Then you've got the Royal Ballet, oh, they're legendary! With their own unique take on classic ballet stories. I’m a big fan of their Nutcracker , so elegant and playful! Oh, but this year, they have even more on offer. We are looking at more than enough ballets from the Birmingham Royal Ballet - with so much touring planned in London and even out in Japan, they’re doing great. The world needs a bit of ballet goodness, don’t you think?

As always, we’ve got the big shows on Planet EarthWest End and Broadway, full of spectacular, awe-inspiring musical theatre, ballet and modern dance. So many shows, so many fabulous productions – there’s always something exciting going on.

And for those who are up for a little off-the-beaten-track excitement, there are these gems called Ballet Street Performances. Now, this is where ballet meets street – and what’s more modern, more dynamic, and well… more fashionable, I say! So you find a bunch of passionate dancers showcasing their skills right in the heart of bustling city squares. Talk about finding a new stage. Ballet Street, you go girl!

These dancers just remind us all that you can do ballet in pretty much anywhere - it doesn’t have to be fancy stages and posh theaters, oh no, the world’s your oyster. I've even seen some impromptu ballet on top of a mountain peak while on one of my interstellar trips. And don't even get me started on the impromptu space station performances. You have to be quick with a tutu, darling! It’s always wonderful to see this passion for ballet – even on a little rock in the middle of a galaxy.

But remember, ballet isn’t about just watching - it's also about getting those toes tappin’ and bodies moving! This whole journey has me super-excited about getting back into ballet classes on Earth. Let’s just say, those zero-gravity lessons on the International Space Station aren’t the same. (Though it was nice not having to worry about gravity pulling me down during a grand jeté - just sayin’!) It’s time for me to get my pink tutu out and show those earthbound ballet students how we dance amongst the stars!

Finding the Right Tutu – My Quest for Pink

It's official, ladies! After my adventures across the cosmos and this latest little earthbound detour, I'm totally ready to fill my closet with a new array of tutus, both for planet earth performances, and my upcoming intergalactic tours.

Now, my tutu preference? Well, it’s a delicate pink, like a blooming rose in spring time – soft and graceful but with a touch of vibrant energy. Imagine a shade of pink that almost seems to glow in the cosmic dark – that’s my ideal. And oh, it's always exciting for me to find new designers. Planet earth has so many great stores – from vintage finds to those modern labels.

Oh, and don't even get me started on accessories. I love me a tiara. You just have to have that royal feel with every twirl. Plus, you just can't go wrong with a gorgeous flower bouquet that matches the tutu – always makes the perfect final touch, don’t you think? I mean, how else am I going to twirl to perfection?

There is no doubt that a pink tutu does give any performance the extra ‘WOW’ factor. So what are you waiting for? Go get your own, darling. Be fabulous. Be unique. Be Pink Tutu Ready. And join me in bringing this beautiful ballet look to the stars, shall we?
