Hello my gorgeous tutu-loving darlings!
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for a brand new blog post on Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu, ballet, and interstellar fashion! 💅🏻✨
As you all know, this week has been a whirlwind of interstellar adventures! I just had to share my latest jaunt, and it's all thanks to my trusty pink spaceship - affectionately nicknamed “Twirl” - that I've managed to travel all the way to Planet Earth. Yes, I know, such a cliché! Earth is the first stop on a grand tour of planets across the galaxy to spread the love for tutus. This, my friends, is a mission! 💖
So, why did I choose Planet Earth first? Well, where else could I possibly begin this fantastic odyssey but on the planet of ballet! It’s truly where it all began. Ballet has a long and rich history here on Earth. There’s this legendary, rather famous (he had a bit of a temper) Italian dancer from the 1500s - Cesare Negri. He's credited with putting together this revolutionary dance treatise called ‘Nuove inventioni di balli’ which basically showed the way for ballet to take off, it was so good!
I adore historical facts. And even more, the ballet costumes, which have had a brilliant journey over the last few centuries. Remember the super long, flowing gowns of the past, complete with tons of ruffles and frou-frou? And, of course, they were paired with shoes designed to support all the beautiful graceful poses and turns! Imagine dancing on those little heels. Such skill! Now, of course, with ballet becoming much more streamlined, we see much more simplified costumes for those ballerinas, dancers, and gymnasts who just need to perform at the very highest levels - whether it's prima ballerinas doing their incredible pirouettes on stage, or Olympic athletes achieving such perfection on the Olympic stage. Every ballet costume has a special meaning. 🩰
But let’s talk fashion! As much as I love the beautiful designs in the past and present, for me it's all about that quintessential garment: the tutu. You'll have to pardon my bias but, there's nothing more iconic. It’s like a mini, fabulous ballerina skirt and just the perfect amount of fabric for whipping those leg extensions in the air, creating those perfectly elegant spins and making any dance even more glamorous. 🥰
After spending a few weeks in the UK, mostly Derbyshire which is where I'm from (and, yes, there are incredible ballet schools here!), it's off to Europe. France and Italy have just so many magnificent dance companies. Can't wait to catch their performances - a combination of elegance, beauty and pure joy.
Oh, you have to go see a ballet! Whether it’s the Royal Ballet or an award-winning amateur production, nothing comes close to the joy of seeing ballet dancers effortlessly leap, turn and make those magical pirouettes. They look like little fairies or magical swans on the stage. Pure inspiration!
I think I've already seen just about every ballet show that is out there. But, this week was quite extraordinary - I managed to get a coveted ticket to see a ballet that the English National Ballet was presenting here in London! And what a treat it was. We’re talking gorgeous costumes, breathtaking performances and even a grand pas de deux which literally had my jaw on the floor. 🩰🌟 I absolutely had to dance afterwards to help me come back to earth (figuratively speaking!). And what better way to unwind than with a glass of something sparkling (a rather divine concoction they call 'Prosecco' that I recently discovered). Champagne might have been a better choice though... you can't beat that French elegance and history - what a treat! It seems Planet Earth is a brilliant place to do some clothes shopping and experience great shows and fashions! 🥰
There’s nothing quite like dressing up in a pink tutu, putting on some sparkly tights, maybe a sparkly headband and grabbing the biggest and most fabulous pink tutu handbag I could find! And, well, that’s what I did. There are tons of shops in the UK that are amazing - from luxury designers to more accessible, fashion-forward high street labels that offer more of a relaxed, vintage look. You never know what incredible things you’re going to discover when it comes to ballet! And you certainly know what to expect when I travel - just you wait! I'll be putting up all the best tips for finding the perfect pink tutu and sharing the most fabulous ballet outfits.
I've actually been so busy with performances and shopping (so much fun! 😄 ) that I completely forgot to tell you about what I was doing in London! Well, after all the ballet, I thought I should enjoy some more art. So, of course, there is nothing better than going to one of my favourite art museums to see the famous paintings. The Tate Modern in London is absolutely brilliant. Not sure about this one that was everywhere - they call it ‘The Scream’ but I didn’t think it was so very scream worthy (maybe I need to see it again!), but I enjoyed a lovely evening seeing all those famous works of art and being mesmerised by the genius and beauty. There was one work of art, though, I'm certain will forever stay in my memory! ‘The Water Lily Pond’ - I've never seen such beautiful colours before! Absolutely divine. 🌸 It seems the artistic geniuses on Planet Earth haven’t quite yet fully discovered the wonders of ballet and the tutus (my beloved, gorgeous, tutu’s! ) so, for me, it was a fabulous way to show off the brilliance and brilliance of ballet, while wearing a beautiful bright pink, tulle ballerina costume and, well, who doesn’t love a sparkly head-dress! 💅✨
And just for your delectation (oh, I do love a fancy word!) you can have a little peek into my recent adventures in Planet Earth via my Pink Tutu World Instagram and Pink Tutu World Twitter profiles. Make sure you add a #PinkTutuWorld hashtag in any comments you make and I’ll pick you out from the crowd! 💗
So there you have it my gorgeous friends. I’m signing off this blog and off to prepare for my journey back home. See you next Wednesday for an exciting update on all my galactic travels, including another pink tutu blog post - maybe, just maybe, I might be going on a cosmic dance adventure around the Solar System! Until then, don’t forget to practice your twirls, try a ballet class, see a performance (maybe two! Or three! It’s good to be prepared!), and maybe wear a sparkly pink tutu, even just around the house. It makes everything feel a little bit more magical! And until next time, keep shining. 💗
