Hello, darling darlings! It's Wednesday, the day we all know and love (well, okay, maybe not everyone. Some people have been known to have a bit of a Monday hangover… just kidding!) And that means it's time for another Pink Tutu World adventure! This week, I'm writing to you straight from the very heart of… Planet Earth! Yes, the very place I call home! You see, every so often, it's lovely to revisit the old familiar and remember where it all began, isn't it? And that's what I'm doing, catching a little dose of terrestral (earthly, darlings, not terrestrial - although, let's be honest, it's practically all about the land!) ballet, theatre and, of course, shopping.
This time last year, I was doing my very first ballet on Planet Earth series, touring the great capitals of the universe, with my little spaceship. A whirl through the starry skies! What a rush!
Remember my London ballet series back in January? We spent a week exploring the world-famous Royal Opera House, watching the gorgeous swans of Swan Lake gliding across the stage, seeing the majesty of Romeo and Juliet, and getting caught up in the dramatic depths of Giselle. It was, quite frankly, pure ballet heaven.
But sometimes, even when you've danced across galaxies, it's nice to step back, take a breath, and remember what inspired you. Why I wear this tutu with such pride, why pink is my happy colour, and why a simple, swirling turn on a stage is, for me, the most incredible form of expression in the universe! It all started right here on Earth! I always have the most wonderful time revisiting Planet Earth. It’s where I first learned to twirl! And there's nothing like a bit of earthly ballet to get you back in the pink mood for those upcoming galactic travels! I was, as you know, born and bred in lovely little Derbyshire, right in the heart of England. Now I get to explore the entire universe, all in the name of tutu.
Speaking of getting back in the pink, this Wednesday, I went to the fabulous Ballet Theatre in London. You have to remember, on Planet Earth, every single day is exciting for a tutu enthusiast!
Let me tell you about it... As you know, on Wednesday January 17, it was my annual birthday treat (because, honestly, birthdays should always be a ballet-filled event!). So I donned my new fluffy pink tutu (that fabulous, bouncy thing, just perfect for pirouettes), paired it with a gorgeous pink chiffon top (you know I love those layers!) and strutted into the Ballet Theatre.
From the moment I stepped through the grand doors of the theatre, it felt like I was in a fairytale. I adore the old theatre traditions! And let me tell you, dear readers, London was buzzing for this ballet performance.
Imagine, if you will, the whole stage transformed into a shimmering snowglobe... Then, graceful snowflakes dancing gracefully with the wind... I swear, darlings, I saw snowflakes in my favourite shades of pink (that happens sometimes on this planet - don't let anyone tell you this planet isn't magical!)… I must confess I was rather tempted to grab a snowdrop to have in my boudoir…but my mother (who still holds on to all her good, earthling common sense) stopped me, I did think for a second of getting one, just to wear on a pink fluffy shawl, I could have created a fabulously "enchanting snow-look," but no. My very strict, practical earth-mum got me back on track - not the best time for snowflakes, darlings! But it made my day, so pretty. She was a ballet dancer in the good old days too (although you'd think the days had been just as dramatic….)
I sat through the performance, entranced. The Nutcracker was, as always, utterly enchanting. A story of dreams and wonder. What could be more pink than that? Oh! They had some fantastic pink tutus in the second act!
Then, I indulged in some retail therapy. Because darling darlings, if you don’t know already, tutus and ballet gear are my weakness… So, I ended up picking out the most magnificent ballet bag you've ever seen: all silver and sparkle (I did explain it would match my favourite pink dancing-with-the-stars dress…).
On Thursday, after an incredibly restful sleep, a day in London is always good, darlings (sometimes too tiring if there are a few more retail excursions, don't be fooled by that lovely peace-full word 'restful', my dear. It was so busy I had to use the royal family rest-room.... well not actually royal I hope…) . It wasn't entirely 'restful,' you see. That afternoon, in full tutus, * I popped by a special exhibit at the National Gallery, just because I *do love to indulge. * Ballet History! * Now that’s my passion…
I always do this. Once a week, I pop by and indulge, as my treat to myself… I have a whole section in my blog, actually, where I blog about all my ballet-related finds around Planet Earth. The exhibit, my dear darlings, featured the most beautiful tutus, from centuries past... You should have seen this one tutu: a stunning, golden, lacey creation. They called it "the golden butterfly." I imagined a ballerina, just fluttering, like a gold butterfly, right above my head, in some far-off galaxy… But, sadly, I wasn’t allowed to touch it. Of course, that meant I had to imagine myself floating alongside it... which is why I do all these ballet tours - for inspiration…
So after a fabulous Wednesday and Thursday, I returned to Derbyshire, with my new pink sparkle tutu bag. Oh, I’ll be back again, darlings! But for now, it's back to space.
Onwards! Until next time. Don’t forget, follow Pink Tutu World on all my social platforms for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into my intergalactic ballet adventures. And most importantly, darling darlings: wear pink, wear a tutu and dance your heart out!
Stay stylish!
Love, Emma
P.S. Oh darling darlings, before I go… do you ever think why a pink tutu is just perfect for travelling to a galaxy far, far away?? Because I’m really curious, I think pink is simply the colour of endless possibility... So, if anyone’s up for exploring new worlds… just grab a tutu and come on! You never know what you might find out there, or what wonderful adventure might flutter your way!
A bit more about Planet Earth and Ballet
*Now, as we all know, this *planet is bursting with ballet heritage. You’d think everyone would have danced at some point! So, if you’re a fan of tutus and history, this is the perfect planet to explore!
* The world of ballet was built layer by layer, just like my favourite pink chiffon tops (it's always all about layers!) It all began with these beautiful Italian dancing schools and, oh darlings, do you remember what else was beautiful and Italian: The Renaissance (another wonderful, graceful, and perfectly pink moment in history!). You see? They were born for each other! It wasn’t all swirling silk and *gorgeous costumes either... It wasn’t until the mid-17th Century *in France, with ballet-obsessed King Louis XIV himself, that it started to move and evolve. So really, dear darlings, a little bit of ballet love is truly universal!
Ballet on the StreetsBut now we don't just look for ballet on a stage. It's bursting out onto the streets and, let me tell you, there's so much fabulous energy on Planet Earth.
Take a street dance crew, and a few minutes. Then, add some stunning moves. Imagine... That is how we find the amazing Street Ballet dancers… It’s all around you, dear readers, just be observant (and a bit of eye candy for good measure…).
Let me tell you, I think I have discovered one thing on this planet … (because my dearest readers… I travel through the universe in search of something really special.)… The secret ingredient in street ballet ? Well… just the right dose of magic, a dash of imagination... and oh yes, the magic of the pink tutu.
Tutus in Every StyleMy favourite discovery this week was a Street Ballet group performing in a local market here in Derbyshire. It was pure, joyous street style and full of vibrant tutus: pink, red, silver... A stunning celebration of life and all its swirling, twirling joy! And as you can see, darlings, I went to the shop where the *group gets all their tutus. The owner (so sweet) had these lovely colourful, rainbow tulle skirts in all shapes and sizes (from mini tutus to full length). I asked her the secret to their success. She simply said: "Life’s better when you dance, especially when you’re wearing a tutu! " And who am I to disagree?
As always, dear darlings, keep those tutu dreams coming… you’ll always find your very own Pink Tutu World. Even right here, on Earth.
It’s time for me to leave this magical place. Until next Wednesday… Stay fabulous, my dearest readers!
