Hello, my darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means another thrilling episode of "Tutu Tales from Space" is here for you, ready to whisk you away to galaxies unknown! This week, I'm hopping off my spaceship in a flurry of tulle, ready to report from the bustling streets of… well, Planet Earth, actually. Fancy a quick visit home? I thought you might!
Now, I know you're probably wondering, "Emma, how can you possibly be back on Planet Earth? You're always jet-setting around the universe, dazzling intergalactic audiences with your fabulous routines!" Well, darlings, let me tell you, even a tutu-clad ballerina needs a little home-cooked comfort food every now and then. And besides, there's something truly magical about a visit back to the old stomping ground, isn't there?
It’s funny, I find it so strange being back here. This tiny little planet, spinning endlessly, surrounded by billions of stars. I get such a buzz travelling through space, seeing the sheer size of the universe, meeting the most diverse and colourful lifeforms - and all the while, we’re here, in our little corner of the galaxy.
Anyway, back to my visit! Today is August 22nd, 2007. A beautiful summer day on planet Earth - I'm sat outside a charming little cafe, the smell of freshly baked bread filling my nostrils as I sip on a delicious latte. (Honestly, Planet Earth really does make the best latte).
So, let’s chat fashion, darlings!
Fashionably Fabulous in Derbyshire
Today, I decided to put together a particularly sparkly ensemble for my Derbyshire excursion. Imagine a vintage pink satin dress, its ruched neckline echoing the graceful lines of a tutu, paired with a cloud of pale pink tulle, its soft folds swirling around my legs like a ballerina’s skirt. Of course, the centrepiece was a truly exquisite tutu. Think of a kaleidoscope of pale pinks and soft creams, shimmering sequins catching the sunlight and creating an explosion of sparkle with every movement. And for a finishing touch? A tiny, delicate, vintage corsage made of ivory and pink silk roses - absolutely charming!
But let's talk about the true star of the show - my beloved, vintage, hand-stitched tutu! I found it nestled amongst the relics of a bygone era, hiding in a dusty corner of a Parisian vintage shop. This tutu is an heirloom piece, a piece of history. Each delicate layer of tulle whispered tales of ballerinas past, their stories imprinted on the delicate fabric.
There is simply nothing quite like the history of ballet and tutus, darlings. These creations, imbued with generations of passion and creativity, transport you back through time to the opulent stages of imperial Russia and the elegant salons of 19th century Paris. To feel the whisper of their history against your skin… it’s pure magic.
A Day in My World: Catching the Next Show
After my vintage shopping spree, I indulged in one of my favourite Earthly delights: a truly extravagant lunch at a local restaurant. (Now, we don't just get food that's been irradiated by a space ray up in space, you know. We appreciate our proper grub!). I've really missed those delicious hearty portions that planet Earth offers, and I even snuck in some chocolate fudge cake (don't tell my spaceship crew!).
Now, no visit to my home county is complete without a visit to one of our amazing local dance theatres. This afternoon, I'm heading to the Derby Theatre to catch a truly captivating performance of “Swan Lake."
This iconic ballet is truly a classic for a reason, wouldn't you say? To witness the effortless grace of the ballerina as she dances the swan, to experience the tension of the drama unfolding on stage, it's a visceral, beautiful experience.
"Swan Lake" holds a special place in my heart - it was the first ballet that I saw as a child, and its enchantment inspired me to take up ballet, a journey that has taken me far beyond my wildest dreams. It’s wonderful to be able to go back and see all these amazing pieces here in the heart of Derbyshire!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, darlings, I have to jet off to the theatre. (And yes, my sparkly pink tutu is definitely packed!) Until next time, stay fabulous, keep twirling, and remember, pink is always the answer.
Until next Wednesday,
Your friend,
Emma. xx
